Gujarat riots unfortunate, unfair to blame Narendra Modi for it, Rajnath Singh says

Narendra_ModiNew Delhi, Sep 1: Terming the 2002 Gujarat riots as "unfortunate", BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday said it was unfair to blame state chief minister Narendra Modi for the incident and accused Congress and some other parties of dividing the country on religious lines.

"One of our states is Gujarat. I agree an unfortunate incident took place. Who does not agree that it was unfortunate. Attempts were made to blame Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as if the riots were planned by the chief minister," Rajnath said.

Singh said during his personal interactions with Modi, he tries to read his facial expressions. "He looks so sad...what is wrong with the people. Is it politics?," the BJP president asked referring to charges that Modi was behind the riots.

He was addressing the inaugural session of BJP's minority morcha's national executive meeting.

He said people should ask the Muslims of the states whether they feel any discrimination under BJP's rule.

Singh also used the occasion to lash out at Congress for adopting the Britishers' 'divide and rule' policy.

"Whether Congress adopted any other policy of the British or not, they at least adopted their divide and rule policy...Congress and some other political parties have tried to sow the seeds of division in the country," he said.

He admitted that members of the minority community working for BJP find it difficult to propagate the party's policies among people due to the perception created that the party was against taking minorities along.

"The perception is away from the reality. We do not indulge in such politics," he maintained.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had said that his son Nikhil's marriage ceremony will take place at bride Revati's residence in Bengaluru, however, the wedding preparations are also going on in his farmhouse at Ramnagar.

This comes amid the lockdown in the country due to COVID-19 outbreak. The farmhouse is located at Kethaganahally, near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Kumaraswamy has said the marriage will be simple and only his family members will attend and no one from outside would be invited.

Earlier Kumaraswamy has said that his son's marriage will take place on April 17 at bride house.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: A case has been registered against a man for spreading communal hatred by sharing objectionable and sensitive posts on social media, Commissioner of Police Harsha said here on Saturday.

In Twitter Mr Harsha wrote, ” We have registered a case against a person claiming himself as Vishwa, Mangalore for making Statements promoting enmity and hatred between communities on social media with crime number 46/20 at the south police station under 505 IPC.”

He further warned, “We will not spare anyone trying to disturb communal harmony in the district.”

Mangaluru/ Udupi, Jul 20: Dakshina Kannada has recorded 89 new covid-19 cases and five deaths whereas as Udupi recorded 98 cases in past 24 hours.

With five new deaths, the covid-19 death toll in the district mounted to 82. Among the five deceased, two are from Mangaluru taluk, one from Beltangady taluk, one from Bantwal taluk and one from Chikkamangaluru district. The deceased include a 2 month old child (from Bantwal). 

Out of the 89 cases, eleven persons had contracted the disease from primary contacts. Two persons had returned from the Gulf. Forty-five persons are suffering from influenza-like illness (ILI), and sixteen persons are suffering from Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI). The health officials are tracing the contacts of fifteen others.

Meanwhile, 57 persons were also discharged from the hospital after complete recovery.

Udupi

With 98 new covid-19 cases, the total number of cases in the district today mounted to 2,321. Among them only 661 are currently active. 

1650 patients have been discharged from the hospital after complete recovery, and 11 persons have succumbed to COVID-19 in the district.

As of now, 213 throat swab samples are pending for results, 54 samples were sent for testing on July 20. On Sunday, July 20, 251 samples have tested negative. As of now, a total of 22357 swab samples out of the 24891 have tested negative for the coronavirus.
