Weight_Loss_TipsApr 20: Teenagers tend to eat whatever they want because they are constantly on the move. Also, their hectic and stressful schedules always keep them on their toes. But constantly eating junk food can have severe health repercussions later on in life. Nutritionist, Suman Agarwal, Fitness expert, Food Guru and Owner of Selfcare India, shares a few tips on how to choose healthy eating options, when dining out.

Health eating out options

Ø Pasta with chicken in arabiatta sauce

Ø Tofu with stir fry veggies

Ø Non-fried chicken/fish preparation with very little rice

Ø Pesarrattu (dal dosa) with vegetables

Ø Rawa idlis with sambhar

Ø Mushroom risotto with chickpea salad

However, always keep the following pointers (do’s and don’ts) in mind, which will keep you healthy and satisfied:

Ø Avoid deep fried foods, mayonnaise, cream cheese and any other table foods (like a bread basket) that add to your calories.

Ø In vegetables, avoid cashews, coconut or cream based gravies.

Ø Opt for the green chutney or tomato chutney instead of the coconut one.

Ø Opt for steamed and grilled starters instead of the deep fried variety.

Ø Pick up sorbet or a fruit pudding instead of a high calorie dessert.

Ø Never miss your proteins (chicken, fish, dal, milk and curd), or else have your protein before you leave your house.

A sample menu for a teenager would look like:

Breakfast-Any one of the following options:

Ø Cereal with milk

Ø Toast and eggwhite omlette

Ø Paratha with curd

Lunch-Any one of the following options

Ø Roti + dal + vegetable + curd

Ø Wraps with curd

Ø Veg pulao with tofu

Evening-Any one of the following options

Ø Milk and biscuits

Ø Milk and bread toast

Ø Eggs and toast

Dinner -Any one of the following options:

Ø Roti + dal + vegetable + curd

Ø Pasta with baked beans

Ø Noodles with stir fry veggies and tofu

In the end, it’s not always what one chooses, but also, how much one chooses. Continuous binging on high calorie foods is not always healthy. So, one must always keep a check on what they are eating, how much and at what time. This will ensure that one remains fit and healthy.

Washington D.C., May 5: Working from home has become the new normal ever since the outbreak of coronavirus and in today's time the work duties can be easily dealt with by means of mobile devices at home.

However, this easy use of technology, mobile devices for that matter, has the potential to blur the fine line between work and the other daily life routines.

But, contrary to the belief, a study at the University of Jyvaskyla reveals that the mixing of work and other daily life routines may have more benefits than previously assumed, and points to the importance of boundary-spanning communication.

A smartphone enables phone calls, email, and file transfers from the comfort of home. The study shows that there may be more effective ways to maximise the benefits of smartphone use, without diminishing employees' flexibility and the use of these technologies.

"People often forget to talk about positive effects, such as autonomy and freedom the employees gain when they have the flexibility to schedule their work," said Postdoctoral Researcher Ward van Zoonen from JYU, who with his colleagues examined the use of smartphones for work matters outside working hours.

The study paid special attention to the benefits of talking about domestic matters with the immediate supervisor outside the working hours given to an employee.

"This reduces the conflict between work and other life," van Zoonen said.

"If people in an organisation strive for more dialogue between employees' different life domains, it is possible to create a functional environment where people can talk about different matters."

The research findings show that when employees communicate across boundaries and talk at work about their life in other respects, they can receive new kinds of support and understanding from their immediate supervisor.

"This kind of communication creates a low threshold for contacting one's supervisor, which helps employees build a balance between the different domains of their lives and strengthens their organisational identification," said Professor Anu Sivunen describing the findings.

This means that tight working time restrictions to protect employees might not be beneficial after all, if they hinder reaching the positive results indicated in this research.

For the study, a survey was taken of 367 employees who were asked questions such as -- how much they talk about their work with their family, and how much they talk about their family with their immediate supervisor.

"Both supervisors and their employees answered the surveys, and the study actually focused on their mutual communication," Sivunen said.

"Usually people at workplaces are interested in how communication within the work community is succeeding. It is often forgotten how an immediate supervisor can take an employer's other life into account and thereby help the employee gain work-related benefits."

"Communication with one's immediate supervisor during flexible working hours, also on matters other than work, could ease the daily lives of many employees if they could share the possible challenges of their family life or free time with their supervisor in these settings," Sivunen added.

According to the study, such a practice could make the supervisor aware of the employee's situation as he/she works from home and the related impacts on their work performances.

Singapore, May 25: COVID-19 patients are no longer infectious after 11 days of getting sick even though some may still test positive, according to a new study by infectious disease experts in Singapore.

A positive test "does not equate to infectiousness or viable virus," a joint research paper by Singapore's National Centre for Infectious Diseases and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore said. The virus "could not be isolated or cultured after day 11 of illness."

The paper was based on a study of 73 patents in the city-state.

The latest findings may have implications on the country's patient discharge policy. The discharge criteria is currently based on negative test results rather than infectiousness.

Singapore's strategy on managing COVID-19 patients is guided by the latest local and international clinical scientific evidence, and the Ministry of Health will evaluate if the latest evidence can be incorporated into its patient clinical management plan, according to a report by the Straits Times.

So far, 13,882, or about 45% of the total 31,068 Covid-19 patients in Singapore have been discharged from hospitals and community facilities. Singapore reported 642 new Covid-19 cases as of noon on Saturday.

The government has been actively screening pre-school staff as it prepares to reopen pre-schools from June 2. On Friday, two pre-school employees tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases among pre-school staff to seven, according to the Ministry of Health.
