cooperMangaluru, Feb 14: The customs investigators in Kerala have seized 7 kg of gold smuggled in a car imported by a native of Mangaluru through Kochi port.

14 crude gold chains of 24 carat, each weighing 500 gm concealed in the fuel tank of the imported Mini Cooper car were seized by the authorities said KN Raghavan, Commissioner, Cochin Customs.

The luxury car was imported under Carnet De Passage — a duty-free car import facility for tourists.

“This suggests that smugglers are patient enough to wait for the contraband to arrive at the destination via ship, a time-consuming operation,” said KN Raghavan.

According to sources, the car and its contents had been booked in the name of Moideen Kunhi from Puttur, near here.

The official said 25 to 30 cars were imported through the Carnet De Passage scheme on a year-on-year basis in Kochi. Cars imported under the scheme are permitted for use anywhere in India for six months.

The seized Mini Cooper valued around Rs. 25 lakh will also be confiscated under the provision of Customs Act.

This is the handy work of gold smugglers may not be necessary from Mangalore. Karnataka state is full of Gold merchants as they are 95% from Kerala. Need to know by the public the beneficiary of the Cooper Mini and unearth the gold smugglers.

Bengaluru, Apr 24: The Karnataka Health Department is likely to shift the 119 accused in Padarayanapura violence to Bengaluru's Haj Bhavan from Ramnagar Jail.

This comes after two accused out of 121, who were shifted to Ramnagar jail, tested positive for coronavirus. They have been shifted to Victoria Hospital.

A ruckus erupted in Padarayanapura on Sunday allegedly over the shifting of 15 secondary contacts of corona positive patients to a quarantine facility by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials.

Padarayanapura is recognised as a 'red zone'. When BBMP officials went to shift the suspected COVID-19 patients, some people created a ruckus, broke a barricade and removed the police post in the area.

Mangaluru, Jan 15: Popular Front of India leader Mohammed Saqib came down heavily on Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha for justifying the Dec 19 firing which claimed two Muslim lives in the city.

He was addressing a mammoth crowd of around two lakh people, mostly Muslims, who had gathered at Shah Garden at Adyar in Mangaluru today to register their protest against CAA, NRP, NRC, besides police atrocities on Muslims in Mangaluru.

Criticising the way the commissioner handled the situation on December 19, he said the people have all the right to agitate when their citizenship is endangered.

“Two men lost their lives. Then Commissioner started releasing misleading videos (to justify the killing),” he said questioning the top cop: “Who are you? Are you a British?”

“What kind of doctor you are? You are a doctor in creating false stories,” he said whiling taking on the top cop for claiming that protesters had tried to storm the Mangaluru North Police Station.
