Bhatkal, Mar 2: BJP leader and Uttara Kannada MP Anant Kumar Hegde's recent provocative statement and hate comments against Islam have created a tense situation in Bhatkal town which falls under his Lok Sabha constituency.

On Tuesday miscreants owning allegiance to Sangh Parivar allegedly tried to disrupt peace when several Muslim organisations condemned MP's unconstitutional statement, and demanded action against him.

In a memorandum submitted to Uttara Kannada SP C Vamsi Krishna, Majlise-Islah Wa Tanzeem, Bhatkal, general secretary, Altaf Kharuri said Mr. Hegde's statement was malicious. It was aimed at creating a law and order problem, he said and urged the police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

At a press conference in Bhatkal on Tuesday, Mr Kharuri condemned Mr Hegde's statements against Islam and accused him of trying to target Muslims to safeguard his political base.

“Mr. Hegde's dreams of uprooting Islam from this world would never be realised,” he said adding that he would initiate all possible action against Mr. Hegde within the framework of the law, and appealed to the Muslim community not to heed to such statements.

The police have deployed nearly 400 personnel as a precautionary measure. No untoward incident has been reported, the police said.

Mr. Hegde had called for a press meet on the Hubballi-Ankola railway track-laying project on Sunday. While replying to a question on terrorism, he called to wipe out Islam from the world. He also called Bhatkal an epicentre of terrorism in India.

New Delhi, Jul 29: Air Commodore Hilal Ahmad Rather has become a buzz name in Kashmir overnight. Hilal saw off the first batch of Rafale jets which took off from France to India on Monday. Among other things, he has also been associated with the weaponisation of the Rafale aircraft for acclimatisation to Indian requirements.

Hilal is presently India's Air Attache in France.

The career details of this officer of the Indian Air Force (IAF) read like the decoration scroll of the best flying officer anywhere in the world.

Born in the south Kashmir's Anantnag district to middle-class parents, Hilal's father, late Mohammad Abdullah Rather retired as a deputy superintendent of police (Dy SP) in J&K police department. He has three sisters and is the only son of his parents. Hilal studied in Sainik School in Nagrota town of Jammu district.

He was commissioned in IAF as a fighter pilot on December 17, 1988, became flight lieutenant in 1993, wing commander in 2004, group captain in 2016 and air commodore in 2019.

He graduated from defence services staff college (DSSC). He also graduated from air war college (USA) with distinction. He won the sword of honour in NDA. Hilal is also the recipient of Vayu Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva medal.

Bengaluru, Feb 9: The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Services Department has kept 138 persons across the state under observation in the wake of novel coronavirus (nCov) scare, a health official said on Saturday.

"We are observing 138 people across the state, including in Bengaluru," the department's Communicable Diseases Wing Joint Director Prakash Kumar told news agency.

Though no coronavirus-positive case has been reported from Karnataka so far, four persons have been admitted in a state hospital under medical observation, Kumar confirmed.

Of the 104 samples sent for testing from the state, 85 have, so far, been declared negative. As many as 130 persons in the state were kept under home-isolation observation.

Four Karnataka districts bordering Kerala — Kodagu, Mangluru, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru — continue to be under surveillance after three positive coronavirus cases were reported in Kerala.

On Saturday, it was reported that three persons from Udupi were isolated at the Ajjarkad Government Hospital. Two of them had travelled to China while the other had returned to Udupi from Japan.

From January 20 till Saturday, 14,153 passengers underwent thermal screening at the Kempegowda International Airport, including three who had a history of visiting China’s Wuhan, the epicenter of the nCoV outbreak.

The '104 Arogya Sahayavani' call centre, which people can call for guidance on coronavirus, has clocked 1,792 calls so far.

"In case people with recent travel history to China and other affected countries develop any symptoms, they are requested to call 104 or health authorities and provide all necessary details in order to take necessary measures and are requested to be quarantined at home," reiterated the department.

Three confirmed cases of coronavirus were earlier reported in Kerala and over 722 deaths were confirmed around the world, mostly in mainland China.
