Priyanka Gandhi’s daughter wins hearts

PriyankaPuducherry, Feb 3: Priyanka Gandhi’s daughter Miraya Vadra was the cynosure of all eyes as she took to the field on Tuesday for a basketball match here along with her team-mates from Haryana.

The 42nd Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship for boys and girls has been organised by the Basketball Federation of India in association with Pondicherry Basketball Association in Puducherry from Tuesday to next Monday at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka Gandhi is also in Puducherry to see her daughter in action. Security has been upped in and around the hotel where the mother and daughter are staying.

On Tuesday, though, Miraya left her mother at the hotel and turned up at the indoor stadium where she was joined by her team members.

The match between Haryana girls and Tamil Nadu girls began at 10.45 a.m. From the beginning of the match, Tamil Nadu team was maintaining the lead. In the first quarter of the match, Haryana scored only 6 points while Tamil Nadu notched up 27.

Tamil Nadu beat Haryana 80-58. Tamil Nadu’s Pavithra Sree scored a game-high 36 points.

Miraya, sporting Jersey No. 15, did put her skills on display during the game, much to the delight of the shutterbugs from the media at the venue.

Mathab Singh, Haryana team coach said, “Our kids were too tired since they travelled three days by train to reach Puducherry. Except in the first round, I feel the team did well in all other rounds.”

Avoiding media glare, Miraya went with her friends to sit in public the gallery to watch other events.

M. Sheeba, Tamil Nadu Coach said, “Our team has been maintaining the lead from the beginning and we are hopeful that the team will enter the quarterfinal.”

The championship is being played on league cum knock out basis and the final will be held on February 8.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu has called a meeting of top officials of his department on Tuesday following information that the man, who tested postive for novel coronavirus in Telangana had travelled from the city.

The minister in a tweet said people residing in the person's local address have been identified and are being monitored.

He also said state government has taken all precautionary measures to contain the spread of the virus.

The condition of the 24-year-old man, who tested positive for the coronavirus was stable and he was being treated in an isolated ward at the state-run Gandhi hospital in Hyderabad, the Telangana government had said on Monday.

The man, a software engineer who works here, had been to Dubai last month on an official visit, where he is suspected to have contracted the virus.

The man reached Bengaluru on February 19/20 and later travelled to Hyderabad in a bus.

Earlier, Sriramulu had said, the government has strengthened all surveillance and control measures against the spread of the virus in Karnataka.

Till date, 468 travellers from COVID 2019 affected countries have been identified and 284 are under home isolation while one admitted in selected isolation hospital, he had said.

The Karnataka Minister had also said that till date samples of symptomatic are sent for testing, out of which 240 samples were eligible for testing and 238 were reported as negative.

He added that 104 'arogya sahayavani' (health helpline) has reserved 2 seater for receiving calls and providing guidance over Coronavirus and 6,770 calls have been received and information provided.

Jeddah, Jul 9: Karnataka NRI Forum Jeddah, a registered charitable organization under Government of Karnataka & Indian Consulate Jeddah - Saudi Arabia, helping the Kannadigas overseas and in Karnataka state as well, has initiated played its role in helping stranded Kannadigas to travel back to home under Vande Bharath Mission. 

The first flight which was departed to Bengaluru from Jeddah through this mission had 155 passengers. The forum had helped hundreds ofstranded Kannadigas in reaching their destinations with majority passengers were on emergency medical issues and pregnant women.  Still hundreds of Kannadigas are looking ahead for the help to fly back.

Now, the forum has organized two separate charter flights with Spice jet for Mangaluru (IXE)on16TH July 2020 & for Bengaluru (BLR) on18TH July 2020 from Jeddah (JED) airport respectively, with the support of Indian Consulate Jeddah and the Karnataka State Government.

Bengaluru, Feb 24: Wanted gangster Ravi Poojary, who was arrested in South Africa and brought to India, was on Monday sent to police custody till March 7 by a Bengaluru court.

First Additional City Magistrate V Jagdish, while sending Pujari to police custody, said that there should be no interference in the investigations.

The court also asked the police to record video and audio of the interrogation process.

Poojary, who was wanted in over 200 cases of serious crime including murder and extortion, was brought to India by a team of senior officials and arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport here.

Pujari was extradited from Senegal on February 22 pursuant to an extradition request made by India in early 2019.

"He is physically fit. Questioning will begin from tomorrow. He is supporting our investigation and answering questions," Additional Director-General of Police Amar Kumar Pandey told reporters here earlier today.

Poojary, who parted ways with underworld don Chhota Rajan had jumped bail after he was arrested in Senegal in 2019 and had escaped to South Africa, where he was involved in drug trafficking and extortion.

According to sources in the Indian intelligence, Ravi Pujari was hiding with a false identity of Anthony Fernandes, a Burkina Faso passport holder, in a remote village in South Africa.
