Mangaluru, Mar 18: Deputy Commissioner AB?Ibrahim, who is trying to douse the temple festival's invitation row fire, opined that that the controversy raised because of intolerance'.

abibrayakaStating that there is nothing wrong in printing a Muslim officer's name in the invitation card of a Muzrai temple's car festival, he said that as per the Hindu Endowment Act, non-Hindus should not take part in religious rituals. “But there is no specific rule regarding invitations. This has been conveyed to Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty and she too has been convinced,” he told media persons.

"We have been so intolerant that a non-issue is being blown out of proportion. I was special officer for the Dasara festival when I was in Mysuru and I was part of festivals in many Hindu temples as a government representative. No one asked me before printing my name on invitations. It is just much ado about nothing," Ibrahim said.

Recalling the communal harmony in the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, he said there was harmony between Hindus and Muslims, be it the adoration of Bappa Beary in Mulki temple or Ali Chamundi Kshetra in Kumble. He criticised those who are trying to disturb the harmony.

Ibrahim clarified that his name was printed because he is the deputy commissioner and also that his permission had not been taken before printing the same.

“Although I am pained and saddened over the developments regarding the issue, it is my duty to take everybody along,” he said and requested the members of the public to maintain peace and harmony in the district.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare B Sriramulu on Thursday clarified that his remarks have been misinterpreted, wherein he apparently said that ''only God can save people from Covid''.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader slammed KPCC President D K Shivakumar for spreading false information and said that my words were not meant to cause panic among the masses.

''Respected Shivakumar, this is a clarification regarding my words that have been misinterpreted and misunderstood.

While responding to claims of the opposition that the government’s negligence, irresponsibility and the lack of coordination among ministers are responsible for the rise in cases in the state, I stated that ‘these accusations are far from the truth. People need to be aware and cautious to avoid the spread of the virus. This plays a vital role in controlling the pandemic. If we fail at this crucial step the situation can get complicated. And if things go worse, then only God can save us'', Mr Sriramulu said in a series of posts on Twitter

Bengaluru, Jan 21: Karnataka Chief Minister's political adviser MP Renukacharya has courted controversy yet again with his remarks targeting the Muslim community at a pro-CAA rally in Karnataka on Monday.

Addressing a rally in support of the new citizenship law, the BJP lawmaker accused Muslims of collecting weapons in mosques instead of praying. "There are few traitors who sit in a masjid and write fatwas. They collect weapons inside the mosque instead of praying. Is this why you want a Masjid," Renukacharya said on Monday.

Renukacharya said he won't hesitate to use the money allotted to Muslims for Hindus. "I will resort to such politics in my taluk where the money allotted for Muslims can be used for Hindus. I will put you [Muslims] in your place and show what politics is," said Renukacharya, who is a close aide of CM BS Yediyurappa.

This is not the first time a Karnataka BJP leader has made communal remarks targeting the minority community. Earlier, BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy had made controversial remarks at a pro-citizenship law protest in Ballari when he asked those opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to think of the "consequences" if the majority community members hit the streets against them.

The MLA had said, "If you do any drama, then if 100 per cent people come, understand what will be your situation. Congress people are lying to you, believing them you are coming on streets. We are 80 per cent, you are 17 per cent, if we react, what will be your situation? Be careful," Reddy had said.

Following outrage, a case was filed against Somashekar Reddy for alleged provocative speech targeting those protesting against the amended citizenship law.
