Mangaluru: Complex surgery saves woman’s leg from amputation

Mangaluru, Feb 3: A team of doctors of Indiana Hospital and Heart Institute here has recently performed a successful surgery on a 20-year-old woman from Kannur in Mangaluru who was suffering from cancerous tumor on her left leg which recurred after initial surgery done elsewhere.

Addressing media persons on Wednesday, doctors of the hospital said that the only option in such situation was amputation (Removal of leg). The patient had visited multiple higher centers where the option given was amputation.

Under the leadership of Dr. Jalaluddin Akbar, Cancer Surgeon along with Dr. Imtiaz and Dr. Abhishek, Orthopedic Surgeon along with Dr. Vincent, Anaesthetist, performed a complex surgical procedure to removal recurrent cancerous tumor to save the limb using mega prosthesis has been done for the first time in India reported.

“Now, the lady can lead a normal life with minimal disability,” doctors said.

Corona epidemic has reached third phase in Karnataka; never step out: DyCM

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol on Ssturday said the coronavirus epidemic has reached the third phase and cautioned people defying the lockdown orders.

"Today the coronavirus epidemic has entered the third phase. By and large people are cooperating," he told reporters at Bagalkote.

The deputy chief minister said there were some people defying the lockdown orders by roaming in groups without wearing masks.

He said he has directed the district authorities to take stringent action against them.

Karjol also said the government has taken adequate measures for the treatment and prevention of this disease.

Steps have been taken for door-to-door supply of grocery items in Bagalkote, he added.

Asked employers to explore work from home option, says K'taka Depy CM amid coronavirus scare

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwathnarayan on Wednesday said rumours that the state government has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false.

He clarified that the government has asked employers to explore the option of work from home amid the coronavirus scare.

"The rumours that the Govt has asked offices to remain closed tomorrow are false. We have asked employers to explore options of work from home for their employees. Let us be vigilant about this issue and not fall prey to any such rumours," Ashwathnarayan tweeted.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi has cancelled all seminars, workshops or conferences in the premises in the wake of coronavirus spread.

"All the functions including seminars, workshops, conferences are to be cancelled. This is for urgent and necessary compliance," officials from the hospital said.

Mangaluru: Thousands travel from Ullal to join anti-CAA protest in Kasba Bengre

Mangaluru, Jan 21: Thousands of people today boarded boats from Ullal's Kotepura to join a massive protest against the amended Citizenship Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Kasba Bengre, here.

People traveling through boats and steamers decorated with national flags, raised slogans during their journey through the river.

The innovative mode of transportation was used by the protestors to reach the venue, as it not only saved time but was also more convenient for the fishermen, a large number of people from this community joined the protest.

The protestors docked their boats at the shore and reached the venue chanting slogans of azadi.
