Bengaluru,?Sep 12: Zoom in for an extreme close-up of ‘Tipu’s Tiger’, a life-size wooden semi-automation device made for Tipu Sultan during the 1790s.

Tipus TigerCapturing this image in ultra high definition, the Google Cultural Institute has made the exhibit—now displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum, United Kingdom—accessible online. HD imagery of over 200 such artefacts linked to Karnataka are now part of this unique project.

Culling out images from museums, galleries, magazines such as LIFE and other sources, the Google Institute has made the visuals searchable and fit for deep analysis with a clinical eye. A search for “Nandi, the Sacred Bull of Shiva” under ‘Mysore’ throws up the image of a stone sculpture in extreme detail, as realistic as displayed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Visuals of Mysuru villages from a different era credited to the LIFE Photo Collection; images from old Bengaluru and Mandya; portraits of Shahs from the Adil Shah Dynasty of Bijapur are all part of this project. Designed to digitise and share the best of India’s heritage with the world, the visual online initiative is set to get bigger with the Institute’s tie-up with 10 new partner institutions countrywide.

Navigating through the site is easy once the browser stops at www.google.com/culturalinstitute. Search results could be refined by place, creator, medium, person, media-type and date.

The refined search results could get scaled up fast over the next few months. Here’s why: To source fresh material, the Institute has partnered with the likes of Salar Jung Museum, Victoria Memorial Hall Kolkata, DastkariHaatSamiti, Devi Art Foundation, Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, Academy of Fine Arts and Literature, Kalakriti Archives, Heritage Transport Museum, Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres & Ashrams, and the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute.

Rising collection

Currently, the collection features over 2,000 new images and 70 virtual exhibits depicting ancient architecture to modern day contemporary art. Also included are 26 new virtual tours of sites such as the Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple and the royal saloon that once was part of the Palace on Wheels, captured using Google’s Street View technology.

To make the content even more accessible, DastkaariHaatSamiti, Devi Art Foundation, Heritage Transport Museum and Kalakriti Archives are launching mobile apps built by the Cultural Institute to showcase their exhibits.

The Institute director, Amit Sood explained the rationale behind this marriage of technology, heritage and art:?“Anybody with a mobile phone can now explore Indian culture through unique partner apps. Partners can also embed content on their website.”

Launched in 2012, the Google Cultural Institute had begun its India focus through partnerships with the National Museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi. Worldwide, the Institute has tied up with 860 museums, foundations and archives in 61 countries.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Congress MLA Priyank Kharge has questioned the Karnataka government on the alleged breakdown of oxygen in the intensive care unit (ICU) at ESIC hospital in Kalaburagi, saying he had got complaints that eight persons who were on ventilators had died.

He asked the government if it is "deliberately" hiding something about the patients that were admitted in ESIC.

"I have got complaints that eight people who were on ventilators are dead in ESIC Kalaburagi because there was oxygen breakdown in ICU. ESIC has not been admitting patients as the issue has not been resolved. Nobody is confirming or denying it. Is the Government deliberately hiding something?" he asked.
Kharge also accused the government of not having adequate facilities to combat COVID-19 in different parts of the state.

"I hope I am wrong, but if it is a fact, this ascertains that the administration has lost control over Corona pandemic in the district. No addition testing centre. No beds are available. PPE Kits and medical waste is thrown in Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS)," he added.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 67420 COVID-19 cases in the state.

New Delhi, Mar 3: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kapil Mishra, who instigated violence in northeast Delhi by provoking mobs, has now been provided with 24x7 security. After he claimed threat to his life, he has been provided with “Y” category security — which entitles him to six security personnel round-the-clock to guard him in and outside the city.

He had fought the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections by giving inflammatory remarks around the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act in Shaheen Bagh, and lost to Aam Aadmi Party candidate. But he continued to issue provocative remarks.

While there is clear evidence of his scandalous statements just a day before the violence was unleashed on Muslims in Delhi last week where around 50 people were killed, no action has been taken against him so far. Instead, he is being treated as a hero in his party.

As per sources, Mishra complained that he got life threats over the past week in wake of the violence and based on his request, the Delhi Police has provided the security cover.

Mishra had taken to social media platform Twitter and alleged that he was receiving threats via WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook, from Indian and foreign accounts.

“I am constantly being threatened with murder on the phone, on WhatsApp, on email. Hundreds of threats are being given continuously from the country and abroad. I don’t fear this hate campaign against me,” he had said on Twitter on March 1.

Mishra had on February 23 made an incendiary speech, following which North-East Delhi witnessed anti-Muslim violence.

The Supreme Court of India on Monday said it will on Wednesday (March 4) hear a plea that sought immediate FIRs against Kapil Mishra, Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and other leaders for their recent hate speech, which allegedly triggered the violence in Delhi. The plea was filed by Delhi violence survivors.

The apex court bench, comprising Chief Justice SA Bobde, listed the matter for hearing after senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, who is appearing on behalf of the survivors told the SC that the Delhi High Court had last week adjourned the matter for six weeks even as “people are dying every day”.
