ABVP activists attack college girl, then accuse her of raising pro-Pak slogan

Tumakuru, Apr 4: A leader of All India Students' Federation and law student, who was brutally attacked by a gang of ABVP activists during the distribution of pamphlets, said that the saffron brigades again threatened her to kill if she was seen in Tumakuru again.

abvp Recounting her ordeal, a second-semester law student of Vidyodaya Law college, Jyothi.K., said that ABVP workers did not allow her to get into a autorickshaw and they even threatened the driver that the vehicle would be burned if he allowed her to sit in the vehicle.

Ms. Jyothi said that that around 80 ABVP workers beat her and All India Youth Federation (AIYF) State vice-president, V.Chinnappa, and that they were also not allowed to speak. She was allegedly kicked in the stomach and beaten with helmets for distributing pamphlets criticising the saffronisation of education.

“The incident has made me strong and I will continue to fight against the privatisation of education and other problems in the education system,” she said.

Mr. Chinnappa said, “My parents are worried about me as I was badly beaten up by the ABVP workers.”

Both denied shouting “Pakistan Zindabad”. A case of physical assault against ABVP workers was registered in the New Extension Police Station on March 30 and a sedition case was registered against them by an ABVP worker on March 31.

The police said that the investigation is going on and no arrests have been made yet.

Mr. Chinnappa and Ms. Jyothi were distributing leaflets criticising the BJP and RSS. The leaflets also expressed support for Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president, Kanhaiya Kumar and the deceased research scholar of University of Hyderabad, Rohit Vemula, on March 30.

A group of students, said to be ABVP workers, objected to the distribution of pamphlets. However, both the functionaries argued with them.

However, the ABVP workers thrashed them and alleged that they were raising slogans of Pakistan Zindabad', said an eyewitness, Kambegowda, who is also the district secretary of Communist Party of India.

We are middle class people, my father being the owner of a small printing press in Amdbd. We had Muslim employees working in the press. All of them were killed in 2002. This openned my father's and my eyes to the reality of BJP, RSS and Modi. My father winded up the business and by 2004 we quit Gujarat and settled in Bangalore. RSS is the most fascist organization in India. BJP is the most corrupt party. Gujrat model is nothing but a web of lies corruption and photoshop. Forget Hindus, Modi will harm the business class too. Modi only works for a few selected business houses rest all should fend for themselves. Living in the considerably freee and cosmopolitan environs of Bangalore I've realized that there is no progress if it is limited to a caste, a religious majority or minority or any other group. Progress has to be for all. RSS and its cronies will not last long. Country is getting sick and tired of their threats and abuses. Their inciting of riots at the drop of a hat. Woe to them when the 80% of the population take a leaf out of their book and hunt them down like dogs that they are.

27 coronavirus positive cases officially confirmed in Karnataka so far

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramalu on Monday confirmed that there are 27 positive coronavirus cases in the state so far.

A fresh COVID-19 positive case has been reported from Mysore today.

"One hospital in every district is dedicated to COVID-19 treatment. We have placed an order for 1000 ventilators. We have also ordered 10 lakh N90 mask, five lakh PPE testing kits, 15 lakh three-layer masks. Sanitizers and thermal scanners will also be purchased on-demand," said Sriramalu while addressing a press conference here.

The Karnataka Health Minister said that decision will also be taken to purchase lab testing kits and equipment.

Meanwhile, Dr Ashwath Marayan, Deputy Chief Minister, Karnataka said that all necessary measures are being taken to contain the spread of COVID-19.

"We will take important decisions as soon as possible. 80 per cent of the companies are following work from home. Critical and essential things should be provided in this situation and we have kept them available to serve the people," said Marayan.

"We have taken all the required decisions including the logistics and supply. Social distancing is much important and we will implement it," he added.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases in the country mounts at 415, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Karnataka madrasa hosts mass marriage of 76 Muslim, 25 Hindu couples

Belagavi, Feb 22: A madrasa in Karnataka’s Belagavi district hosted a Hindu-Muslim mass marriage on its premises on Friday, sending a strong message of communal amity. As many as 76 Muslim couples and 25 Hindu couples entered marital life on the occasion.

Madarsa Al Arabia Anwarul Ulooma, an Islamic religious institute in Bailhongal, 50km from Belagavi district headquarters, played host to the event that was organised by Jamia Faizan-ul-Quran and Issa Foundation, which has conducted mass marriages on a bigger scale in Gujarat.

The mass marriage comes a month after the 100-year-old Cheravally Jamaat Masjid in Kerala’s Kayamkulam in Alappuzha hosted a Hindu wedding, complete with a vegetarian feast for 4,000 people. A Hindu priest led the rituals, and the couple sought the blessings of chief imam Riyasudeen Faizy of the mosque.

At Bailhongal, moulvis and pontiffs led the marriage proceedings and asked the couples to read passages from Quran and Bhagvad Gita.

The Hindu couples were gifted a copy of the Gita, and newly-married Muslim couples received a copy of Quran. The organisers provided each Hindu bride a mangalsutra. Bailhongal MLA Mahantesh Koujalagi blessed the couples at the event, which was attended by more than 4,000 people.

Mohammad Rafique A Naik, a member of Jamia Faizan-ul-Quran, said they have gifted each couple a refrigerator, an almirah and a tailoring machine. Ranjita Kalala, a bride who married a daily-wage labourer, said her family couldn’t afford the cost of a wedding, adding, “When we learnt about the Bailhongal madrassa’s plan, we agreed to sign up because it also sends out a message of communal harmony.”

Pakistani roommate striving for release of Udupi man arrested in Saudi over offensive Facebook post

Dammam, Feb 3: Harish Bangera, 32, who was arrested in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia more than a month ago after offensive Facebook post went viral, has remained incommunicado.

Bangera, who hails from Goyadibettu in Bijadi village of Kundapur taluk, Udupi district, was an air-conditioning technician for a company in Dammam, capital of Saudi's eastern province.

He was arrested on December 20, 2019 after he posted derogatory messages on Facebook against crown prince Mohammad bin Salman and went on to claim that a Ram temple will be built in the holy city of Makkah too just like in Ayodhya where the Babri mosque was demolished.

Fearing legal action, he later posted a video pleading for forgiveness. “I have committed a mistake. Please forgive me. I will never upload any such posts again," he is seen saying in the video.

After his arrest, his roommate, who happens to be a Pakistani, has reportedly made several attempt to contact him, but in vain. He also has approached many Indian and Saudi authorities in his bid to get Bangera out of prison, sources said.

The Saudi authorities have not even responded to the messages of Indian Ministry of External Affairs. "We've made many efforts to contact the Saudi authorities but they haven't responded,” MEA sources said.
