Mysuru, Apr 18: The Nikah and other wedding rituals of the Hindu-Muslim couple from Mandya, whose alliance was opposed by the Hindutva extremists, were held peacefully amidst tight security in spite of threats from the anti-social elements on Sunday.

The wedding reception was held in a grand manner at a convention hall in Mysuru on Sunday evening amid tight police security. There was no untoward incident during the ceremony. Hundreds of relatives and well-wishers prayed for the eternal bond between Shakeel Ahmed and Ashita alias Shaista Sultana, whose 12 years of love culminated in wedding.

The couple, both MBA graduates, took part in bale shastra', the pre-wedding bangle ritual, at the bride's house in Mandya on Saturday. The same day, the couple and their families left for Mysuru. Ashitha and her family stayed with a relative in the City of Palaces.

It's unclear when and where the Nikah (the Muslim ceremony which entails the groom making an offer and the bride accepting it) was held.

The police escorted members of both the families to the venue of the reception, Taj Convention Hall in Bannimantap locality. The newly-married couple reached the venue at 7.20 pm in separate vehicles and the reception began 10 minutes later.

The reception was attended by dignitaries like writer KS?Bhagwan, journalist Gowri Lankesh, former minister M?S?Athmananda, women's rights activist K?S?Vimala and former MLA G B Shivakumar. JD(S) MLA B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan is said to have visited the couple in Mandya and wished them.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar described the marriage as special. “Generational and cultural progress and education have brought about this change. The parents consented to the marriage. I?have come here to wish the couple,” he said.

Though no protests were held against the marriage, entry into the marriage hall was restricted due to security reasons.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) HT Shekar said that the marriage was held peacefully. “We provided adequate security,” he said, adding that the marriage ceremony was conducted without any disruption.

It is stupidity to call it hindu-muslim marriage as the girl converted to Islam a few days back from the marriage. She has the right to do whatever she wants but conversions as condition for marriage does not account for true love. Only hypocrites can justify conversion and can call it love triumph. It is a shame that a person has to change religion for marriage and lovers in interreligious religions (be it of any religion) should be able to defend faith of each others that for me is true love. Fanatics use Indian laws to marry girls of other religions and show their religious hypocricy by making the girl to convert for marriage which for me is a cheap ideology. Progressive laws are being used by bigots to show their true color. Which is a shame, in any religions if a partner is made to change religion the party who forces other to change religion is cheap and fanatic. Not a secular trend..

I have heard of several inter-religious marriages where there is no conversion---husband hindu/mother catholic etc...Why conversion here ?

Dear Prakash, you are like a frog in the well and have no knowledge about islam and muslims. dont read books written by prabhakar b hat / Mutalik / Karnik etc. Read books written by authenticated people. Half knowledge is not good for health. Talk to Mr. Jain, a shiv sena activist who was against Muslims / Islams till recently and have reverted to Islam for the reason he changed his belief. May be you will get correct answer to your question. dont judge on yourself. dont trust the hate mongers. May God bless you with right way of thinking and keep you on right path.

Prakash...in your religion why lower cast girl or boy cant marry upper cast girl or boy...as per Islam if a boy wants to marry a Hindu girl, he can but she has to convert to Islam religion....because in Hinduism, Hindus pray 100's of gods which is forbidden in Islam....and children born out of that marriage will follow mother's tradition or religion...to avoid that she should convert to Islam...one thing is nobody can force anyone to marry to someone...here girl and boy loved each other and married...she willingly converted to Islam.

hIjab, burka will give security and safety to girls while they are venturing outside of their home....you know most of rapes and molestation of girls happening around India....reason behind it is girls dont cover their body parts properly, whereas burkha and hijab will protect them from it....

Muslims can marry up to 4 girls....it is not compulsory but it is a provision...if you can't make justification and satisfy their requirements then you are not eligible for it at all....

@Prakash

Coz Muslim Girls are not allowed to marry the disbelievers or the polytheists as per Shariah law. Neither is a Muslim man allowed to marry a Disbeliever/Polytheist. The only option here is the man or the woman must revert to Islam for

Question: Why not Muslim girls marry other religion boys?

Prakash R
 -
Monday, 18 Apr 2016

The religion should not poke its nose in any way. If the boy was really brave, he should have suggested for a non-religious marriage. In the boy's religion, there is no freedom for women, men can marry 4 wives, pray 5 times a day. In each and everything, religion comes first, burkha, hijab are symbols of slavery. She does not know that she is getting into an unknown jail...
People of religion bring the name of non-existing god unnecessarily.. that's the problem, otherwise, it is ok..

U will come to know the oppressor like Pharoah, Haman, Abu jahl.. how their life came to end. (Read QURAN).

Bengaluru, Apr 28: Providing respite, Karnataka has decided to ‘conditionally’ allow economic activities to restart in green zones.

The green zones of Chamarajanagar, Koppal, Chikkamagaluru, Raichur, Chitradurga, Ramanagara, Hassan, Shivamogga, Haveri, Yadgir, Kolar, Davangere, Udupi and Kodagu will now see shops and industrial activities starting operations, according to an order issued by Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar on Tuesday.

Lockdown restrictions in the wake of COVID-19 will continue in Bengaluru Urban, Belagavi, Mysuru, Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Kalaburagi, Bidar and Dakshina Kannada. Here, only essential services and supplies will be allowed.

In green zones, all shops that include neighbourhood shops, standalone shops, shops in residential complexes within the limits of municipal corporations and municipalities can open with 50 per cent manpower but with masks and social distancing mandatory.

Shops in residential and marketing complexes are allowed to open in areas located outside municipal limits, the order states.

Multi-brand and single-brand malls will remain shut across Karnataka.

Industries operating in rural areas of these green zones (except Ramanagara) have been allowed to start. Also, manufacturing and other industrial establishments with access control in special economic zones and export-oriented units, industrial estates and industrial townships will be allowed to operate.

“These establishments shall make arrangements for stay of workers within their premises as far as possible and/ or adjacent buildings. The transportation of workers to workplace shall be arranged by the employers in dedicated transport by ensuring social distancing (sic),” Bhaskar said in the order.

This order comes a day after Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa participated in a video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and with all deputy commissioners.

No decision on relaxing lockdown restrictions has been taken for Ballari, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural, Gadag, Tumakuru, Chikkaballapur, Uttara Kannada and Dharwad. “The decision regarding opening of shops and industries in taluks where there are no active COVID-19 cases will be taken by the concerned district in-charge minister,” Bhaskar said.

Bengaluru, Jul 2: As many as 3,363 students from Covid-19 containment zones have appeared for SSLC examinations in different parts of Karnataka till yesterday. On the first day of exam, i.e., on June 25, only 998 students these zones had written the exam.

In the past few days the number of containment zones has increased across the state in general and Bengaluru in particular. In all, 32 students could not appear for the exam as they turned positive.

While on June 25, the number of students who were found unwell during the check up at exam centre was 201, it was 613 on Wednesday. Students who are sick and those from the containment zones take the exam in a different room.

The social science exam on Wednesday saw an attendance percentage of 97.96 (7.68 lakh). This was against 98.78% last year. There were 7.45 lakh fresh candidates, 20,000 private candidates and 593 from outside the state.

Five students in Yadgir district were given question papers based on the old syllabus for maths exam on June 27. Their answerscripts will be evaluated separately and action will be taken against the officials.

Malpractices assisted by schools by switching off CCTV cameras were reported in Ballari and Koppal. “We’ve completed all the core subjects. Now only languages are left. We’ll complete them too in a safe environment,” said S Suresh Kumar, primary and secondary education minister.

Kalaburagi, Feb 6: The State government will take steps to ensure that Kannada as a language is taught in all private schools, Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa announced today at the 85th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Kalaburagi.

This comes in the wake of the demand by some Kannada activists for making Kannada medium compulsory in all schools in the State. Sammelana president H.S. Venkatesh Murthy, who spoke after the Chief Minister, also made this demand.

The Chief Minister said “We are committed to putting in place a series of steps to see that Kannada is taught in all schools, aided and private, as a language. Kannada should be taught as the first or second language. We will also take steps to strengthen government schools. However, the government alone cannot do much. The community and parents should offer support to make sure that government schools provide quality education to all.”

To inculcate the spirit of scientific inquiry, the State government is setting up mobile planetariums. This will increase the interest of children in space technology and India’s efforts in space exploration.

The government is committed to protecting the interests of the State in Mahadayi and other river water disputes. It will take the border row issue, based on the Mahajan Commission report pending in the Supreme Court, to its logical end.

The government will also address backwardness and related issues. It will make sure that adequate funds are allocated to the development of Kalyana Karnataka. Among other things, it will establish a hostel for students from Kalaburagi region in Bengaluru. Land has been allotted in Nagarabavi for the hostel that can accommodate around 200 students. The government has decided to celebrate Kalyana Karnataka Utsav once every two years. This will showcase the culture of the region.

“We are working towards forging sentimental and emotional unity of the State other than unity based on language or administration. Our dream is to see that Karnataka remains a homogeneous unit with equality and equal opportunity for all,’’ the Chief Minister added.

Kambar bats for technology

Chandrashekar Kambar, Sahitya Akademi president and former president of the Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, favoured effective implementation of technology in administration and for universal use of Kannada in computing and e-governance.

Speaking at the Sammelana inauguration, he said “Several years ago, at the insistence of writer Poornachandra Tejaswi, I appealed to the State government to give a push to Kannada computing. We were convinced that no language can survive without the use of modern technology and use of the language in computers. The Department of Kannada and Culture, headed by then director Manu Baligar, released ₹2 crore for the project. The work began in earnest and teams of technologists came up with software and fonts. Some departments started using Kannada software. But this work has stopped or slowed down at some level. I appeal to Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to continue the work and ensure that computerised Kannada is used at all levels of government and in e-governance.’’

Supports dubbing

Mr. Kambar batted for content dubbing of informative TV channels in Kannada. Channels such as Discovery and History produce good quality content that can be educative and informative. They are very useful for children. These channels are now available in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi and some other Indian languages. But they are not available in Kannada. That is because some people in the film industry are opposing dubbing. Such opposition is not good. Informative channels are our window to the world and allowing dubbing will enhance our knowledge base. There is no merit in not allowing dubbing. I appeal to C.T. Ravi, Minister for Kannada and Culture, to allow dubbing in Kannada, he said.

Mr. Kambar favoured primary education in the mother tongue of the child and urged the State government to introduce universal and compulsory education in Kannada medium in all schools. “This will help preserve our culture. Nothing else can,’’ he said.

He blamed the East India Company administration for inculcating a craze for English education among the people. “The introduction of English education by the British was strongly welcomed by the masses in India as they had been denied the opportunity for education for millenia. The deprived classes and Dalits who had not been exposed to education till then, were excited about the opportunity. However, along with English education, the British were successful in introducing inferiority in our minds. We are yet to escape from this inferiority complex.”

Quoting from Greek mythology, Mr. Kambar said that Hercules had killed his children and relatives in a fit of alcohol-induced rage. “We should not behave like that. We may be very strong, but we should not kill our mother tongue, in our power-induced rage,’’ he said.
