Karnataka Cultural Foundation holds EDUQUEST in Dammam

Dammam: Karnataka Cultural Foundation (KCF), a socio-cultural platform of Kannadiga Muslims, organized a mega quiz contest called EDUQUEST for the community students studying in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

A huge gathering of around seven hundred people were spellbound by the competitive spirit displayed by the students in the first ever such EDUCATIONAL event organized for the promotion of competitive environment among students of the community. Mangalorean community here in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia is well known for organizing huge community gatherings, however this particular gathering received special appreciation from everyone for being unique and first of its kind in Mangalorean expatriate community.

The occasion also witnessed an awesome entertainment quiz contest held for the professionals working in different companies in the region. The colorful evening quiz gathering was also a wholesome community entertainment event with spectacular display of the traditional DUFF performance by KCF DUFF team during the intervals. Devotional songs, poetry reading and open quiz challenge to audience kept the audience glued to their seat for about six hours. The height of curiosity and enthusiasm generated by this event was most visible when people were seen rushing back in competition to capture seats after the break.

EDUQUEST students’ quiz contest was the grand finale for winners in the qualifying level quiz contests held in cities such as Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Riyadh, Jeddah and Madinah. The twelve winners from different cities were grouped in to six teams. By drawing lots, these six teams were allotted to different companies who were the sponsors of the event. Big business entities run under the leadership of Mangaloreans such as Al- Muzain, RAISCO Group, Expertise Industrial Services, Al- Falah Group of Companies, Real Tech Industrial Services and FABROTECH had come forward to own the teams to promote this first ever educational competitive event of the community.

The quiz contained five rounds comprising one round of Islamic questions and two rounds of general knowledge questions, a picture round and a rapid fire round in the end. The students quiz generated lot of interests as all the teams were of equal strength and fought for every point. RAISCO, AL-Falah and MUZAIN teams were tied up with 150 points each at the end. Finally, the tie breaker round saw Al- Falah team comprising Suhaib and Adnan from International Indian School Jubail emerging victorious and MUZAIN team comprising Aakif and Mahir of International Indian School Dammam as runner up.

The selected six teams of professionals from different regions of the Saudi Arabia participated in the ‘Adult quiz contest’. Here too, by drawing lots six teams were allotted to different sponsoring companies. Companies such as Suhana Travels, Arabian Clouds, SAMCON, Techxon, Red Sea Housing and Spectrum Indus were pronounced owners of Adult quiz teams. Islamic general knowledge, Identifying logos of the companies/products, identifying the personalities, current affairs and rapid fire question were the different rounds in this segment. Teams owned by Red Sea Housing with Nizam and Rameez Kulai (Both from Riyadh) and Spectrum Indus with Salman Ullal and Jamal Swalih (Both from JUBAIL) emerged victorious and runner up respectively. Attractive cash prizes and trophies were distributed to winners among students. Adults were given attractive trophies and prizes.

Well-structured stage setup and state of the art quiz devices were arranged for the grand quiz occasion in which Mr. Kamarudeen was the quiz master. The quiz master expressed heartfelt thanks to Mr. Aboobakkar Padubidre, the chairman of the organizing committee of this quiz gathering, Mr. NS Abdullah, the international coordinator of KCF, Haneef Manjanady, senior advisor of KCF, Mr. Asif Goodinabali, a senior leader of Saudi National KCF, Mr. Umar Farook Katipalla, Gen. Secretary, KCF Saudi National Committee, Mr. Mohammad Belthangady, commander of volunteer team, Mr. Faizal Krishnapura, and Mr. Shafeeq among so many others who were instrumental in realizing the dream of first ever educational community ‘Mulaqat’ in the Eastern province of Saudi Arabia. Well trained KCF volunteer team led by its commander Mr. Mohammad Belthangady received special attention and appreciation from everyone for their disciplined approach in serving guests and audience in this evening gathering.

Addressing the gathering the President of KCF Saudi Arabia, Usthad Yousuf Saqafi Baithar briefed about the member welfare scheme launched by the KCF and expressed satisfaction about the way KCF gaining mass popularity among expatriate Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia in particular and Gulf Countries in general. He appreciated the way in which Dammam zone conceptualized this event and carried it out in most professional way possible. KCF is already in the limelight everywhere in GCC countries by being useful to expatriates in educational and welfare activities and it will continue carrying out useful educational activities to expatriates within the ambit of culture and traditions of the land so that expatriates remain cheerful and motivated in their work, he added.

The quiz master hailed the support of the business groups for the success of this event. He said all business groups headed by Mangaloreans were unanimous in stressing the need for such educational competitive events and they were happy that KCF pioneered such an initiative in Saudi Arabia.

Karnataka Cultural Foundation utilized the occasion to launch a welfare scheme for its members. DP Yousuf Saqafi Baithar KCF Saudi National President, Mr. NS Abdullah, the convener of KCF International Council, Mr. Aboobakkar Padubidre, member of KCF International Council and Umar Farook Katipalla, Gen. Secreatry of KCF Saudi National Committee lunched the welfare scheme by handing over the welfare scheme logo to Mr. Saleem Kanyadi, the Convener of KCF Saudi Arabia welfare division.

Also, the occasion was utilized to felicitate the KCF members who were instrumental in bringing in highest gold and silver membership to ‘Gulf ISHARA’ monthly informative magazine circulated in Gulf countries on behalf of KCF. Asif Goodinabali, the national leader of KCF in Saudi felicitated the volunteers who were involved in bringing honored membership to ‘Gulf ISHARA”

The “open quiz challenge” thrown to audience made the huge gathering stand on their toes awaiting their chance to answer the questions. Elders, youngsters and children among audience were seen enthusiastically participating in the open quiz challenge. Attractive prizes were given to winners among audience.

The colorful evening program began with Dua followed by that General Secretary of Dammam zone KCF Mr.Faizal Krishnapura welcomed the gathering. Hafil Abdul Majeed Saqafi recited Qira’ath and in the end Mr. Umar Farook Kuppetti, the chairman of organization division of KCF Dammam Zone proposed vote of thanks. A live telecast of the program was arranged to allow the ladies to watch the program. An entertainment quiz was held for ladies too at the ladies hall in all women environment. Sumptuous Dinner was served on the occasion. Snacks and drinks were supplied to audience intermittently throughout the duration the program in an organized way.

MOGAVEERS ASSOCIATION Affiliated KUWAIT, to Indian embassy Kuwait, the community welfare association of non-resident Mogaveeras, based in Kuwait Fo the fourth time MAK organised, National level Volleybal & Throw Ball Tournament under the title of “MAK Champion Trophy 2020 “on 25th February 2020. The tournament was held at American Internation Schoo Maidan Hawally,Kuwait.

The tournament coincided with the National day of Kuwait celebration The weather was pleasant, the participants & the MAK members were all geared up for the tournament. 

The day long tournament commenced at 7.30 am with a parade of all the participating Teams the MAK Managemen Committee Volunteers & th guests. The grand opening was led by talented committee member Mr.Suresh Salian.On behalf of MAK Management Committee Mrs Poonam Mendon & Mr.Nishanth Salian, the host for the day welcomed the gathering. This was followed by Kuwait & Indian National Anthem.

The chief Guests of the day were Mr.Anant Kapadia who is the chairman o Indian Bussiness & professionl Counil Kuwait & Mr.P.K Venkat De Chief operating Office of Art of livingTheother guest for the day was Mr.Suresh Shyam Raowho is a Freelance Press reporter fo web new portals & print media. Mr.Rajesh Mendon, President of MAK in his speech welcomed the gathering and stressed the importance of playing with true sportsman spirit and thanked all the teams for their support as this event is done for MAK welfare projects. The guests in their speech encouraged the players & conveyed their best wishes and good luck to the participating teams and organizers.

The president of MAK Mr.Rajesh Mendon ,Convenor Mr.Ramesh Kidiyoor along with the chief guest inaugurated the Volley Ball & Throw Ball tournament by cutting the ribbon .The Medals & trophies of the tournament were unveiled by sports Secretary Mr.Arun Mendon and PRO & Welfare officer Mr.Jaya Kotian.

Mrs Geetha Suvarna Committee member of MAK Along with Mrs Monika Cornelio inaugurated the Throw ball Court & Mr.Sachidananda Suvarna Vice president of MAK along with Guests ianugrated the Volley ball Court by servicing the ball.

The Volley Ball ended with a finale of Final matches between MKV Strikers & Team Boubyan Strikers After a tough Battle between the two strong teams, Team Boubyan Strikers bagged the Winners Trophy & Team MKV Strikers were declared the First Runner up.The second runners up trophy was won by Reggai Volley. MAK Player of the tournament for Volley Ball was secured by Mr.Rahul of Team Boubyan Strikers.

On the other hand, throw ball tournament ended with League matches. Team Dragon Scorpion Queens defeated the opponents and became the winners for the Fourth Consecutive year. 1st Runners up was won by Kuwait Konkans A and Team Alfa stood up as the 2nd Runners. MAK Player of the tournament for throw ball was secured by Ms. Hancil Pinto of Team Dragon Scorpion Queens.

Dubai, Aug 7: One may call it good luck, but for two Indian expats it was God who prevented them at the last minute from boarding the Air India Express plane that crashed in Kerala, killing at least 18 people on board.

According to India's Civil Aviation Ministry, the Boeing 737 aircraft on a flight from Dubai to Kozhikode overshot the runway at Kozhikode airport on Friday evening. There were 184 passengers including 10 infants, 2 pilots and four cabin crew onboard the aircraft.

Noufal Moin Vetten, an Ajman resident working as an office boy in a Sharjah school, was booked to travel on the flight and had checked in as per schedule.

Recounting his miraculous escape, Vetten, a resident of Malappuram, Thirunavaya, whose visa was cancelled a week ago, told Gulf News: “I was handed my boarding pass, but when I reached immigration, they told me I had to pay a fine of Dh 1,000 (Rs 20,430) for overstay. I had only Dh 500 (Rs10,215) with me.

"I called my school PRO and he told me to come back. He said they would follow protocols and pay the fines before sending me,“ he said.

Vetten was disappointed and called his family to let them know.

“When I heard about the crash, I was saddened for all the passengers. But I'm so relieved I missed it. God has been really merciful,” said Vetten.

Afsal Parrakodan, a resident of Abu Dhabi, had a similar stroke of luck.

“My work visa was cancelled about a week ago. After getting my boarding pass, I was told I had to pay a fine of Dh1,000 at the immigration counter, but I had only Dh500 on me.”

“I was very keen to board the flight and be with my family. So I called a friend who brought me the additional Dh500, but by then, my baggage had been offloaded and the flight's doors were closed,” said Parrakodan.

“I was feeling very sad and called my mother to tell her I had missed the flight. But a few hours later, when I learnt of the crash, I couldn’t help but feel relieved and thankful to God for saving my life,“ said an overwhelmed Parrakodan who plans to fly back next week.

Dammam: Indian Social Forum, Dammam, Karnataka chapter organized a "Live along with COVID-19" webinar on 29 May 2020 in association with HealthCare Polyclinic, Dammam.

The webinar at Zoom App. featured over 150+ resident Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia's eastern and neighboring provinces.

Dr. Shailendranath made a presentation on the program and gave useful information. Indian Social Forum Dammam, Karnataka Chapter President Sharif Joktake delivered the keynote address. General Secretary Irshad Jokatte stalled the program.
