Sullia: Family perishes as mother pushes 3 kids into river before jumping into it

Mangaluru, May 18: In a shocking incident, a woman was found dead along with her three young children on the banks of the Payaswini River at Ajjavara village in Sullia of Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday.

sulliaThe deceased have been identified as Kusumavathi?(40), a resident of Ajjavar village, her two daughters - Likitha (4) and Rakshitha (3) and son Sujan (2). Likitha was a UKG student at Rotary School in Sullia.

It is suspected that Kusumavathi would have pushed her two daughters to the river before jumping along into water with her son.

According to Sullia police, a passer-by saw Kusumavati jumping into the backwaters of the Payaswini along with a baby.

After informing the police, the passer-by rushed to the spot along with fellow villagers and local swimmers. The swimmers managed to retrieve the four bodies.

The police said they are yet to ascertain why Kusumavati jumped into the backwaters. The Payaswini backwaters are a few metres from her house, the police said.

Kusumavati's husband Raviraj works as an electrician in a private school in Sullia and he attended for duty on Tuesday too.

Cowards do suicide and hell fire is waiting for them who take up this step, she had 3 children one after one this means she is happy with married life then why she killed herself and innocent kids.....?!!!

Mangaluru, Feb 16: A 45 year-old man committed suicide by jumping into Netravati River from the bridge near Thokkottu along with his six-year-old son in the early hours of Sunday here, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Gopalkrishna Rai and his son Aneesh Rai, residents of Baltila in Bantwal.

According to the police, Gopalkrishna along with his wife Ashwini Rai and son had come to Konaje for a family programme. At about 4:30 a.m. he came to the bridge with his son, left a suicide note and jumped into the river.

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A 22-year-old man from Bhatkal who had returned from Dubai on March 19 has tested positive for coronavirus.

Sindhu B Rupesh, Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada confrimed this today.

The youth, after landing at Mangaluru International Airport had got admitted to Govt Wenlock Hospital.

The total number of coronavirus positive patients in India rose to 342 on Sunday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

A total of 16,999 samples from 16,109 individuals have been tested for COVID-19 as of 10:00 am on March 22, as per ICMR data.

India reported two deaths today from the highly contagious virus - one each in Maharashtra and Bihar - taking the tally to six, as per state authorities.

Bengaluru, April 3: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday held a meeting with Muslim leaders and legislators, seeking their cooperation in containing COVID-19.

In a press statement, the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that the Muslim leaders have agreed to give details of persons who visited Tablighi Markaz in Nijamuddin and has also assured that they will convince the attendees to undergo tests for coronavirus and also follow quarantine rules.

CM Yediyurappa also informed media that the Muslim leaders are also advising the members of their community to offer prayers at home and also to stay indoors to maintain social distancing during "azan".

Also, an appeal has been made to the Muslim community to cooperate with the health workers during the treatment.

The Karnataka Chief Minister also appealed the masses not to pay heed to any sort of rumours pertaning to COVID-19. "Let all of us strictly follow precautionary measures and win the battle over caronavirus."
