Karavali Parba-2016 brings Tulu Nadu culture alive in Saudi capital

Riyadh, May 20: Once again the culture and heritage of the coastal Karnataka came alive at the ‘Karavali Parba 2016’ organised by the Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh in the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia last week.

The function was inaugurated by lighting lamp by the KWAR president Rajesh Kumar, vice president Santhosh Shetty, general secretary Nelson Dsouza, former-president Ramesh Shetty, cultural secretary PM Bhasker, treasurer Shashidhar Haridas, G K Sheikh, Iqbal Thanzimee and other prominent executive committee members.

In his inaugural speech, Rajesh Kumar stressed on the need for unity among all the members and said that he felt proud to head an organization which is the only one in the Kingdom with variety and diversity of cultures and communities but united for a cause. Nelson Dsouza read out KWARs achievements and listed the good works done by the organization for the last eight years.

Crowds were at their feet when kids performed a mesmerising ‘swagatha’ dance with KWAR theme. As a start of the cultural event Miss Megha Riya who had learnt her dancing steps from the famed Mani Group performed with an Indian traditional Kuchupudi dance.

Then there were other nonstop dance performances from KWAR group under the direction of Vishnu Sir and Brothers group which made the audience glued to their chairs.

Ashwini Prasanna Rao, KWAR’s nightingale enthralled the crowd with her melodious voice. Her Tulu duet song with PM Bhasker was a hit and another duo Rahmatullah Khan and Mrs Sarita enthralled crowd with Hindi classics.

The most attractive event was the Tulunadu favorite “Pili Vesha” with their standout performance made the audience dance on the beats.

PM Bhasker and team performed a wonderful comedy skit “Gulf TV – Korike”. Special performance such as Robotic dance and Solo Karate show by Muzaffer left the audience stunned. All the participants were awarded with certificates and medals and main sponsors were honored with mementos, shawls and flower bouquets. Co-sponsors were felicitated with mementoes and flower bouquet.

KWAR chose this occasion to honour and felicitate Mrs Soumya Stanley, one of the senior Kannada teachers of Karavali origin in Indian International School Riyadh. Dr. Vanishree Santhosh & Mrs. Latha Rajesh did the honor of felicitating.

Lucky draw was conducted on regular intervals sponsored by Air India, Jet Airways & Al-Kabeer. Air India Reservation Manager Kinsley Fernandes gave away the Air India Air tickets to the winners. There were 3 special prizes in the draw and the first prize LCD TV was won by lucky winner Jayaram Shetty of Kanoo Group. Other 2 prizes were won by Suresh Raj and Chethan Kaivar. Mr. Kundan Lal of Air India Gave away a Special Prize, a Travel Bag which was ably awarded to Ganesh Hejamadi for his dedication and service to KWAR and for his social service activities.

The program started after the delicious dinner served to all the guests which were well coordinated by Prasanna Rao, Yathiraj Malpe, Iqbal Thanzimee, Jayakar Poojary , G K Sheikh, Salman Noor, Hussain Shafi and Jagannath Kotian. The gates were at the able hands of Victor Menezes, Ashwath Rai , Rafi Ali, as always they managed it very well to handle all the Guests. The Cultural team was well managed by P.M.Bhaskar, Suresh Suvarna, Mahesh Hegde, Dlilp Kumar and Rajesh Rao. Soon after the dinner the MC duo Umesh Shetty Nitin Rai took over the stage, enthralled the hugely gathered audience with their wit and humor.

Dignitaries present during the event included Air India Manager Kundan Lal, BARSA President Santhosh K. Shetty, Aangan Konkanache President Roshan Lobo along with Ex-President Arun D'Souza, Jamiattul Fallah President Mr. Muzaffar Ali, CEO of Top Taste Company Abdullah Al Qahtani. Al-Kabeer, Gulf Gate Company exhibited their stalls at the venue. Islamic book stall was arranged by Mr.B.K.Majeed, Mr.Mahfouz, Mr.S.M.Salih and Mr.Mohammed Ilyas with the support of Darusalam and distributed free translation of English and Kannada translated holy Quran and Hadith. Suncity Polyclinic organized a free Medical Check-up camp at the venue.

Dubai, Aug 7: ‘Nama Tuluve’ Purushotham Salian, a staunch stalwart who always supported humanity and a strong pillar for Tuluvas in Dubai, passed away August, 4 at Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain. He was suffering from cancer and was admitted to Al Tawam Hospital Al Ain some time ago. He was on the last stage of illness which was not detected earlier.

His funeral last rites were conducted on Thursday August 7 at Jebel Ali cemetery in Hindu rites with a few of his family members present. Due to Covid pandemic, neither his body was able to be flown back to hometown nor could his two children come down to attend the funeral. However, it was said that his wish was to be cremated here in Dubai which unknowingly sometime back he whispered to one of his friends.

Purushotham had few years ago, survived a heart attack and fought back his life, though it had a minor paralytic effect on him. Even though, till recently he used to do his day-to-day work normally. He was a hard working personality and owned a readymade garment shop in Ajman and Dubai mostly taking care of clients with requirement of uniforms and coveralls. His dedication towards work was always appreciated by his clients who used to get their things delivered on time always.

He was never a publicity person and was helping the poor and needy in whatever ways he could silently. He strongly supported the community and was associated with Nama Tuluveru and Billawa community with commitment. He used to voluntarily come forward for the ground work of various functions of the community and used to be there until it was done perfectly.

Kuwait: Friday Forum Kuwait conducted its 12th inter-school Islamic Elocution Competition at Hotel Rajadhani Palace, Khaitan on 1st January 2020. 

The competition, which was held in the senior and junior categories had participation from 15 Indian Schools across Kuwait comprising of 43 students. In the senior category, Ayisha Wafiya of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Efrem Joseph of Indian Community School, Amman won the second prize. 

In the junior category, Hima Jameela of Indian Community School, Khaitan bagged the first prize and Fadhel Kandapath of Fahaheel Al Wataniya Indian School won the second prize. Nawaal Yaseen Ebrahim of Indian Community School (SR), Salmiya and Rhruthunanda of Indian Learners Own Academy, Abbasiya won the consolation prizes in senior and junior categories respectively.

This year, the event was fully conducted by the ladies wing of Friday Forum. Dr. Thasneem Amir, Ibtisam Basheer, Toast Masters Ola Rasheed, Fatma Abduhedeid, Shazia Thabassum and Marium Rangat were the judges for the competition in senior and junior categories. The event started with the Qira’at by Saneera Riyas, followed by welcome speech by Dr. Sajna Mohammed. 

The prizes were distributed to winners by Shahina Mansoor, Femitha Faseeh, Dr.Thasneem Amir, Dr. Sajna Mohammed, Zeenath Yacoub, Safna Sayam and Saneera Riyas. The Souvenir for the program - “INSPERIA 2020”- was released during the event by the chief editor Farha Abdul Rahman. The program was compered by Thanveera Noushad and the program convenor Subeana Shabeer conveyed the vote of thanks.

Dubai: Karnataka Sports & Cultural Club (KSCC) distributed Eid Kit across the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Al Ain, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah to the ) needy people on Eid al Fitr.

KSCC President Mr. Mohammed Ismail Said: “Eid is a Symbol of Gratitude and Unity. As the last few weeks have been hard for each one of us, we wanted to stand in solidarity to celebrate Eid, by helping labours and needy people. He also said that “We are together to be part of UAE. Serving these meals is our core social responsibility."

KSCC recently conducted humanitarian services during COVID-19 pandemic in 2 phases and conducted Blood Donation Drive. They have also planned to conduct next Blood Donation Drive on 25th May, 2020.

The KSCC main objective is to develop the expatriate community into a well-nourished section of society in the areas of social, sports and cultural activities.
