Mangaluru, May 22: A project exhibition of Ogival Shell structure constructed by Thariq Aziz, an M.Tech student of Srinivas School of Engineering Mukka, was recently inaugurated by local MLA BA Mohiuddin Bava at Dakshina Kannada Nirmithi Kendra, Surathkal, here.

dom1

The eco friendly, low cost, bud' shaped pointed shell structure was constructed without using steel and concrete which can withstand all types of climatic conditions was executed under the advice of Dr. K S Jagadish, Professor Emeritus, IISc Bengaluru and under the guidance of Prof. Subramanya Bhat P of SSE Mukka.

tariq1Mr. Thariq Aziz welcomed the dignitaries and briefed about his M.Tech project. The pointed, the shell structure has about 30 feet perimeter, 9 feet height, and constructed by using 4 inch thick brick wall. The structure did not deform even after applying a load of 2,000 kg.

He said that by adopting this construction technique, around 30-40% basic construction materials can be saved which in turn help in conservation of energy. This type of structure can be constructed at religious places, tourism projects, resorts, rehabilitation and housing projects. Steering and tilting rod technology was developed and incorporated in this project which can rotate 360 degrees to maintain same radius at different levels which helps in maintaining bud' shaped pointed shell and also ease in construction.

Construction of bud' shape using concrete is a tedious job, since it includes sloping formwork and curved reinforcements. Hence the masonry construction of this nature can be a good alternate to RCC which bears good strength and also act as thermal insulator, he said.

Mr Mohiuddin Bava appreciated the project and said that this project is proved to be green construction as very less quantity of cement is consumed, and no steel and concrete. MLA assured that he will provide all necessary support and assistance from the state government to motivate the research attitude among students community of Srinivas School of Engineering.

Er Rajendra Kalbhavi – Project Director of DK Nirmithi Kendra; Dr. K S Babu Narayan – Coordinator of DK Nirmithi Kendra; Dr. Subhash Yaragal – Professor, Dept. of Civil Engg, NITK Surathkal; Dr. Shreeprakash B – Principal, Srinivas School of Engineering; Dr.Ramakrishna Hegde – Vice Principal; Prof. Subramanya Bhat P – Project Guide; Prof. Shrinath Rao K and Ms. Aneesha Thodthillaya of Srinivas School of Engineering; Er Sharat of DK Nirmithi Kendra; Mr. T Habeeb – Project Coordinator, Boskalis Westminister UK; Er Mohammed Shameer – Project Engineer, Saudi Oger Ltd. were present.

Thanks alot each and every one for your valuable comments and best wishes to me. Regarding the ogival shell it can be constructed to any diameter and height. It is not only feasible to construct in religious centers it can also be designed to a independent houses, restaurants, resorts, office, a coffee shop etc. And when it comes to having second floor we can construct a loft and make use of the ample space.

Bengaluru, Jul 25: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said that the ministers of the BJP-led government in the state avoiding a judicial enquiry into the alleged corruption in procurement of medical essentials "is their height of arrogance".

In a series of tweets, Siddaramaiah said, "Why is the government afraid of judicial enquiry on corruption in procurement of medical essentials? If the ministers are so clean, what is holding them back from initiating investigation? This is their heights of arrogance!!"

He said that there should be a judicial enquiry by a sitting High Court Judge to let people know the facts.

"We will submit our documents and let the government submit their documents. If they are confident, why are they reluctant to initiate an investigation?" Siddaramaiah asked.

"Statment from the PMO says 50,000 ventilators are procured at a rate of Rs 4 lakhs per unit. Is this not true? Will Karnataka BJP ministers say that ventilators under PM CARES are sub-standard and lack quality?" he said.

"There will be both basic and premium models in everything. Even the PMO could have bought Rs. 18 lakh worth ventilator. Why did they buy a Rs 4 lakh worth ventilator? What is the justification from ministers for this?" he questioned.

Siddaramaiah asked that if the Medical Education Department sent a proposal worth Rs 815 crores which is not recomended by experts.
"It is true that Medical Education department has sent a proposal worth Rs 815 crores. It is also true that there is a note on the proposal which says that these are not recommended by experts. What is the significance of this note?" he tweeted.

The former Chief Minister said that if the state government is saying that if ventilators were procured during the tenure of Congress-JD(S) government, they must produce the proof.

"They are accusing us for the ventilators procured during the coalition government. I was not in the government then. If they have documents, let them investigate about that also. Let the truth be revealed," he said.

The Congress leader said that the opposition is not interested in playing politics during the time of COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are not interested in doing politics during COVID-19 pandemic, which is why we have not taken up many other pressing issues. But how can we be quiet when hundreds of people are succumbing due COVID-19 mismanagement?" he asked.

Karnataka on Friday reported 5,007 more COVID-19 cases and 110 deaths. The total number of cases in the state stands at 85,870, including 52,791 active cases and 1,724 fatalities, said the state government's bulletin.

Bengaluru, May 9: A three-year-old boy was killed by a leopard in the early hours of Saturday in Magadi taluk near Bengaluru.

According to police, the boy identified as C Hemanth, was sleeping with his parents - Chandrasekhar and Mangalagowramma - outside his grandfather Chikkanna's residence at Kadaraiana Palya.

The couple, residents of Dodderi, near Big Banyan Tree (Dodda Alada Mara), had been staying at Chikkanna's [Mangalagowramma's father] residence since past a few days following the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic in Bengaluru.

Some of the family members, with the child, had slept outside the residence on Friday as the temperature was high. The feline might have taken the child between 1.30 a.m. and 4 a.m., and killed it on the outskirts of the village, said the sources.

After a frantic search, family members and villagers found the mutilated body of the child in the early hours. The leopard had left the partially devoured body on the outskirts of the village, added the sources.

According to the villagers, many felines have been prowling in the area, probably arriving from forests around Magadi and attached areas, for the last several weeks.

The Forest Department officials said that they have launched an exercise to trap the animal by placing cages with live baits.

According to preliminary investigations, the child was killed by a leopard. Pugmarks were found near the body. A detailed investigation and post-mortem report will find the exact cause for the death.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the vicinity of the village. According to the sources, people are planning to launch a protest to condemn the killing of the boy.

Minister for Forest and Environment B.S. Anand Singh has announced a compensation of ₹7.5 lakh to the family of the victim.

Accompanied by Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha member D.K. Suresh, Magadi legislator Manjunath and senior officials, Mr. Singh visited the place on Saturday morning.

Addressing media persons, he said that the department has decided to start combing operations for the leopard.

Mr. Suresh said the leopard might have come from Thippagondanahalli reservoir's catchment area on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The leopard has already tasted the blood of the child and hence the department should initiate immediate action [as the chances of the feline becoming a man-eater is high, Mr. Suresh added.

Newsroom, Apr 30: Beleaguered billionaire B R Shetty, who went into hiding after after a multi-billion fraud at UAE-based NMC Health came to light, has now put the blame on his companies employees.

The former chairman of the Abu Dhabi headquartered hospital operator said, investigations he commissioned found following things:

1. The fraudulent creation and operating of bank accounts in my name including many fraudulent transfers that I neither authorised, consented to, or had any knowledge of.

2. The fraudulent creation of loans, personal guarantees, cheques and bank transfers in my name, and using my forged signature, that I neither authorised, consented to, or had any knowledge of.

3. The creation and set-up of companies in my name that I neither authorised, consented to, or had any knowledge of, and that were seemingly created with the express intention to commit or conceal fraud.

4. The fraudulent creation of powers of attorney, and the misuse of existing powers of attorney, again in my name, that I that I neither authorised, consented to, or had any knowledge of.

5. The creation and provision to me of false and misleading financial statements and information regarding the performance of some of my private companies and investments by members of my own management team.

6. The payments of expenses using my private companies and personal bank accounts, I believe to hide the true financials of the public companies."

This is the first time Dr. Shetty, who is reportedly hiding in India for the last couple of months, issued a statement based on investigations he commissioned privately. He had brought in a consultancy to conduct it after initial revelations came to light that NMC Health had not been fully transparent with its finances.

Dr. Shetty had stepped down as executive chairman after the then Board of Directors barred him from attending any meetings. “I intend to work tirelessly to clear my name and assist any authorities in getting to the truth and help them ensure that misappropriated or missing funds are returned by the perpetrators to their rightful owners,” said Dr. Shetty.

This month, ADCB, which has the highest exposure among UAE banks to NMC Health, brought charges against five former officials, including ex-board of directors, with Abu Dhabi prosecution. The former CEOs of NMC Health and Finablr are also currently not in the UAE.
