Mangaluru, May 27: Police have averted a murder and possible communal riot by arresting four miscreants including a Bajrang Dal leader, who were part of an anti-social conspiracy in Moodbidri town on the outskirts of the city.sumith

The arrest of Sumit Raj, a prominent leader of the Moodbidri unit of Bajrang Dal, was confirmed by the police.

A resident of Daregudde, Sumit Raj had allegedly involved in the violence following the murder of Bajrang Dal leader-cum-flower vendor Prashant Poojary in Moodbidri last year. He is also known for immoral policing in the area.

He was nabbed on Wednesday night based on the information provided by three miscreants who were caught by police along with murder weapons in a Maruti Omni.

Nataraj and Raviraj from Kunjathbail and Subhash Bajrangi from Kavoor, all three aged between 25 and 35 years were arrested by a team of CCB police led by inspector Valentine D'Souza at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri on Wednesday. All of them were Hindutva activists, sources said.

The police also seized their Omni and lethal weapons such as matches and dagger from the miscreants.

While the trio was subjected to the rigorous interrogation it came to light that they had hatched a murder plot in Moodbidri to create a communal riot.

The trio also reportedly told the involvement of Sumit Raj in the conspiracy. This led the cops to nab him. He was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody. The other three are in police custody.

According to police the mastermind of the murder conspiracy was Bombay Kiran Shetty, native of Padumarpadu. Police have launched a manhunt for Sujith Shetty, a resident of Kallabettu who is also said to be part of the conspiracy.

Police never avert the murder of Hindus, be it common man or leaders. Prashant poojary was murdered in broad daylight by the anti national islamist forces. Where the hell were these police then? Now they arrested an innocent Bajrang Dal leader and these rubbish media make laud noise and level false allegations against him.

Police should have made these arrests soon after they unleashed violence after the murder of an eve teaser by some miscreants. Congress govt should wake up at least now and arrest goons of both Hindu and Muslim communities especially in Dakshina Kannada and leave them handicapped. That's the only way to restore peace in the region.

Mangaluru, May 20: The local unit of Bharatiya Janata Party has defended the delay in repatriation of coastal Kannadigas from Middle Eastern countries saying that it is impossible to bring all expatriate together at a time when covid-19 cases are continuing to spike in the region.

Addressing a press conference, Sudarshan M, president of Dakshina Kannada unit of BJP said that the entire district administration was working as a team under the leadership local MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and district minister Kota Shrinivas Poojary and seven BJP MLAs in this critical juncture.

“Without any bias, we also have reached out to the needs of people of Mangaluru assembly constituency represented by former minister and Congress MLA U T Khader,” he said, adding that his party will not forget Indian expatriates in the Gulf too.

Replying to the charge of not catering to the interests of Kannadigas stranded in the Middle East by way of arranging special flights, Sudarshan said this is part of a well-thought-out move to bring them in batches.

“It is impossible to bring back all Kannadigas stranded in Middle East all of a sudden. Their repatriation will be in phased manner based on facilities available in the district,” he said.

“The district authorities have created healthcare and quarantine facilities for a limited number, be it at Covid-19 hospital or institutional quarantine, and bringing them together will create logistical problems,” he said.

Mangaluru, May 7: The Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Okkoota has strongly condemned permit for opening of textile and footwear shops across the district at a time when the number of Covid-19 positive cases are on the rise.

In a press note here on Thursday, former Mayor and Okoota President Ashraf alleged that the permission to open the shops at a time when Eid-ul-Fitr was nearing would lead to rush in the shops in turn bringing in fear of spread of Covid-19.

He expressed his resentment over the fact that the administration has neglected the appeal made by the Okkoota as well as the Qazi of Udupi against permitting textile shops during the lockdown period.

He warned that the administration, district in-charge Minister, MLA and MP themselves will be responsible in case of increased infection cases due to this decision.

The district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary yesterday had announced that textile shops in the district can be opened from May 7.
