Mangaluru: Homestay attacker Subahsh Padil attacked on court premises

Mangaluru, Jun 4: Hindutva leader Subash Padil who was arrested under goonda Act in 2012 following his involvement in infamous Mangaluru homestay attack, was on Saturday attacked by a rival gang on the court premises in the cityhomesty.

homestayIt is learnt that Subhash Padil and his associates suffered injuries after Raja alias Japan Manga, a petty criminal, attacked them randomly with a sharp weapon.

According to sources, the intention of Japan Marga was to murder Subhash Padil. However, the assailant was caught by constables Harish, Mahanthesh and ASI Sridhar and taken into custody immediately.

The incident occurred when Subhash Padil and other accused were brought to the Sessions Court in connection with the hearing of homestay attack case.

It could be recalled here that on July 28, 2012, activists belonging to the Hindu Jagarana Vedike, affiliated with the Sangh Parivar, allegedly a birthday party at Morning Mist' homestay at Padil in the city.

The 12 people at the party, including 5 girls, were allegedly beaten, stripped and molested. The faces of some girls were blackened. The assailants claimed the youngsters were consuming alcohol and were involved in "some indecent activities".

Subhash Padil was one of the main accused in the case. He was also involved in threatening women sitting in Amnesai Bar and Restaurant in Mangaluru in January 2009. He has nearly two dozen cases against him in various police stations in the city.

Udupi, May 28: The India Meteorologic Department (IMD) on Thursday warned fishermen in coastal belt of Karnataka against venturing out into the deep sea between May 31 and June 4.

The Department stated that depression is expected to occur in the south-eastern part of Arabian Sea and the nearby areas and it would be dangerous for the fishermen of Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep to go out towards the deep sea.

The Department officials said that they would provide information on development in weather conditions. In the backdrop of the current weather forecast, however, the fishermen in the western coastline were advised against venturing into the sea.

Tumakuru, Jan 4: Three people were burnt alive and four others sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a four-wheeler (Omni van) and a private bus on NH-206 near Doddaguni in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said that Narasamma’s relatives and villagers were taking her to a hospital in Nittur when a private bus, heading to Shivamogga from Bengaluru, collided with the van on the tank bund road near Doddguni around 0200 hrs. The two vehicles caught fire and Vasanthkumar, Ramaiah and Narasamma were burnt alive in the van. The passengers in the private bus escaped unhurt.

The deceased were identified as Vasanthkumar (23), Ramaiah (62) and Narsamma (60) of N Hosahalli in Gubbi taluk, whereas the injured were identified as Ravikumar (23), Radhamani (30), Narasimha Murthy (40) and Gowramma (28).

Mangaluru, Apr 15: A 27-year-old man, who died of breathing problem at Banglagudda in Surathkal, has tested negative for COVID-19.

The entire area was panic-stricken following his death on Tuesday evening. Suspecting COVID-19, his throat swab samples were collected, said Mangaluru North MLA Dr Y Bharath Shetty. Now the test has proved he was negative for coronavirus.

The youth had collapsed suddenly on Tuesday evening and was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
