Denied boarding? Flight delayed? Airline should compensate you!

Mangaluru, Jun 5: Here is a good news for frequent air travellers. The ministry of civil aviation is considering a proposal to improve the passenger rights including double refund in case of boarding denial.

flightIn present situation, if an airline denies you boarding at the last minute under some pretext even after advance confirmation of the ticket, you can only get your ticket fair refunded.

You need to shell out double the amount for an alternative flight to the same destination as spot booking is always expensive. You can only curse the airline for overbooking' the plain and fooling you.

However, if the passenger-centric measures of the ministry come through, airlines would pay you fine too while refunding the ticket fair.

As per the new rules, passengers who report to the airport on time before the scheduled departure of the flight and are denied boarding by airlines will get double the amount of the original ticket price or the cost of the ticket on that particular date, whichever is less.

The compensation for flight delays and cancellations would also be enhanced. Aggrieved air passengers would also be able to register complaints with and redress grievances from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) via an online platform.

Mangaluru, Mar 24: A Covid-19 patient from Kasaragod, who recently came from abroad travelled to Mangaluru twice, revealed Karnataka department of health and family welfare.

The 54-year-old person is confirmed as Covid-19 positive case yesterday.

He landed at Mangalore International Airport on March 10 at 5.30pm by Air India Express flight.

From there, he had travelled in his own vehicle to Kasaragod. He had coffee near Kasaragod and reached home at 7.30pm.

On March 11, he had visited local fish market and returned home at 10pm.

He had consulted a local doctor at Kasaragod on March 18 and later visited to Kasturba Medical College, Attavar at 3pm, visited reception and consulted a doctor.

He had tea at KMC canteen and travelled in an auto to Medicity and brought medicines and returned to Kasaragod by KSRTC bus.

Again he travelled to Mangaluru on March 20 in a private vehicle and visited a doctor and returned back to Kasargod in a private vehicle.

The health department has requested all passengers who travelled in the above said flight/aircraft, and KSRTC bus can self-report by dialing 104 or other helpline numbers.

Mangaluru, Feb 8: Professional services company Cognizant on Friday opened a new facility in Mangaluru, expanding its presence in Karnataka. Located in the heart of the city, the new 100,000 sq- ft facility can accommodate more than 1,100 employees, the NASDAQ-listed company said in a statement.

Mangaluru, Jan 10: A person has been booked for forwarding provocative message on WhatsApp against the Dakshina Kannada Khazi Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar.

According to police, the accused Hassan forwarded provocative messages against the Khazi in a WhatsApp group on December 31, following which he was booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Mangalore North Police are looking into the matter.
