Jeddah: Roshan Rodrigues re-elected president of KNRI Forum

Jeddah: The 8th Annual general body meeting of the Karnataka Non Resident Indian Forum was held at The Village Restaurant Karnataka in Jeddah on the 27th of May 2016.

The president Roshan Rodrigues in his welcome address reiterated the vision, mission and objectives of the forum and the achievements in the last two years.

Syed Haseebuddin, treasurer of the forum, made a presentation on the finances of the forum for the last accounting year. He also informed the members of the renewal of the certificate by the Government of the State of Karnataka.

Aijaz Ahmed, General Secretary of the forum, made a presentation of the activities undertaken in the last year (2015-16). Highlights of the activities being money collected for the flood victims of Chennai, Karnataka Nobel Trophy cricket tournament organized jointly with Jamiath ul Falah, celebration of the State annual day and other activities in the service of the community.

Two members of the committee, Ilyas Momin and Shaikh Soud conducted the election to elect the new executive committee. Roshan Rodrigues was elected president unanimously for a record third term.

The newly nominated team is as follows: Roshan Rodriguez – president, Habib Rahaman – vice President, Mukarram Khan – Vice President , Yashwanth Amin – General Secretary, Syed Haseebuddin – Treasurer, Manzour Ahmed – Joint Treasurer, Mohammed Saheb – Joint Secretary, Nasir J Shahsaheb – Meeting Coordinator, Sabu Chandran – Sports Secretary, Shaikh Saoud – Sport Secretary, Mohammed Saif – Cultural Secretary, Mohammed Kaleem – Cultural Secretary, Syed Shakeel Ahmed – Joint Cultural Secretary, Mohammed Salem Khaleefa – Press Secretary, Peter Mascarenhas - Membership Coordinator, Dadapeer Hayath – IT Coordinator

Executive Committee Members : Sayed Nasir Khursheed, Krish Jangal, Niaz Ahmed, Aijaz Ahmed, Mohammed Mansoor, Arif Shimoga, Mohammed Ilyas Momin, Dr. Ashfaque Maniyar, Faizee Razak Sheikh.

Five new life members were elected as Executive Committee Members and they are Dr. Firoz Mulla, Mohboob Ali Khan, Suresh Babu, Syed Kowsain Pasha, Altaf Almelker.

Roshan expressed his happiness and gratitude to all the members and said, you have unanimously elected me for the third term, in doing so, you have reposed your faith in me. It is the faith and trust which you have put on me, now I have to put my full energy and dedication and will fight to achieve one of the crucial tasks of the forum which is close to my heart to get permission for our NRI students to appear in the CET examination and get benefited.
Newly elected General Secretary of the forum Yashwanth Amin delivered vote of thanks in which he expressed deep sense of appreciation towards all the members for attending this event and making it successful.

Niaz Ahmed compered the program which ended with the rendition of the national anthem.

Dubai, Aug 6: Non-resident Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist Dewakara Alva passed away on Thursday August 6. He was 63.

Alva, who hailed from Mangaluru, was the director of Federal Insurance Brokers LLC, Dubai and was residing in Dubai for around four decades. He was reportedly suffering from health problems for last few months. 

He was a patron of Tulu and Kannada language and culture in United Arab Emirates. He was a member of various NRI organizations including UAE Tulu Koota and UAE Bunts

Alva is survived by wife Saritha, daughter Powshali, and son Manal.

Doha: Qatar Indian Social Forum (QISF) once again set an example that no caste, creed, language and religion comes as hurdle for their humanitarian services and helped to perform last rites of Ramesh who committed suicide in Doha-Qatar.

45-year-old Ramesh son of K. Nagan hailing from Panikulam, Thrissur district in Kerala, who was working as a tailor committed suicide in his house at Ruwias in Qatar on 30th May 2020.

On hearing this news, some of his friends in Kearla informed Mr. Shihab who is also from Thrissur and a member of QISF and the same was brought to the notice of QISF humanitarian team head Mr. Abdul Latheef Madikeri and Basheer Ahmed of Tamil Nadu.

Immediately, the QISF team intervened and contacted the family members of the deceased in India and discussed the matter and consequences of sending the body back home to India in this pandemic COVID 19 situation.

Considering the prevailing situation, the family members gave the consent to bury the body in Qatar itself.

QISF team collected the required documents from the family of the deceased and managed to clear all the necessary formalities from the police department, Health Department, Embassy of India and Hamad Medical Corporation.

Finally, the body of the deceased was buried in Qatar on 7th June 2020 and the copies of all the relevant documents have been handed over to the family members.

The family members of the deceased thanked and applauded the leaders and all the members of QISF for their effective and on time humanitarian service rendered even in this pandemic crisis and having no bias.

Dubai: In response to UAE health authorities encourage blood donation campaign Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta - U.A.E, conducted blood donation camps on April 22 at Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and on 23/04/2020 at Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah.

The Abu Dhabi camp was inaugurated by Head of Department of Abu Dhabi Blood Bank, On this occasion she gave brief inputs of the benefits and features of blood donation, urged the participants to spread greater awareness about the importance of blood donation and congratulated the AKO members for their selfless social service and wished all the best for their future endeavours.

Abdul Rasheed, President of AKO presided over the function and Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta Vice President Mr. Mohammad Nasir appreciated the effort for organizing this camp and gathering youths to be a part of this noble cause as life is precious on this earth. "Each drop of blood counts much, so kindly take it as personal compassion to help unknown who requires blood with no relatives to help him/her.

In Abu Dhabi 41 and in Sharjah 49 donors participated in this event and donated their blood. It was nice to see cheerful smiling donors doing a great community work.
Blood bank staff and AKO Organizing team enthusiastically arranged the campaign which was witnessed by many members and leaders of various community organization of Karnataka.

Anivasai Kannadigara Okkuta President briefed the participates about the ongoing social work of AKO in this current COVID-19 pandemic grim situation AKO is working on following fields: AKO Members have stepped up to support needy community during the Covid-19 pandemic have gone out of their way to comfort those struggling to deal with the challenging situation.

While thousands of people continue to #StayHome, many are in quarantine, there are those on visit visa and stuck here, others have lost jobs or face salary cuts. AKO in coordination with UAE Embassy and other social organization have been able to ensure basic necessities are fulfilled with food provisions and medical assistance to needy.

Providing counselling to bachelors and families those are on quarantine and isolation.

The organizers thanked everybody especially, UAE Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Blood Bank Khaldiya and Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, Sharjah, Management and staff as well as donors for their time and support for the good cause.
