Mangaluru, Jun 12: Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, superintendent of police of Dakshina Kannada, has warned the communal and anti-social forces against disrupting peace in the district in the holy month of Ramadan.

violence

Mr Borse, under whose leadership a peace meeting was organised in Savanoor village of Puttur taluk on Saturday, a day after brutal attack on two Muslim auto-rickshaw drivers by the miscreants belonging to another community, urged the people not to give communal tinge to each and every incident.

He promised to conduct an impartial probe into the Friday's attack that triggered communal tension in the region.

Critical condition

Meanwhile, the two victims-Mohammed Asif (22) and Khalandar (24), both residents of Savanur- have been admitted to two spate private hospitals. The condition of Asif, who was attacked with swords and iron rods, is still critical. He is in the ICU.

Khalandar, who is in a condition to communicate, has identified the assailants as Monappa Gowda, Darnappa Gowda, Kushalappa, Babu Gowda, Poovani Gowda, his three children Prasad, Balakirshina and Keshava.

Attack by gang

According to the complaint lodged at a the jurisdictional police station, Monappa Gowda, a resident of Idyadi near Savanur, had hired Asif's auto rickshaw on Friday evening.

When the auto-rickshaw reached near Monappa's house, he asked the driver to wait on promise of fetching money from the house. Meantime, Poovani Gowda and his son Prasad, approached the auto-rickshaw and attacked the driver after an argument. He managed to escape and broke his fast at a mosque.

After spending some time in the mosque, he decided to return home. As he had to go through the same route, he requested his friend Khalandar, who is also an auto-rickshaw driver, to accompany him.

When the duo reached Idyadi, the same assailants along with few others waylaid their auto-rickshaw and toppled it. They attacked the duo with lethal weapons like sword and iron rods.

Two held

Meanwhile, a team of police attached to Kadaba police station managed to arrest Poovani Gowda (62) and Monappa Gowda (67) for attack on rickshaw drivers. Cases have been registered against seven persons in connection with the incident.

Counter complaint

Soon after the victims lodged a complaint, the wife of Poovani Gowda, one of the assailants, also lodged a complaint with the same police station accusing the victim of attempting to outrage her modesty.

In her complaint she claimed that Asif tried to snatch her mangala sutra and misbehaved with another woman, when they intervened during a fight between Asif and Poovani Gowda.

Your compensation will not be gone in VAIN ... It will be there with the CREATOR. The arrogant may seem its finished.. But GOD is aware of all that happens.. A believer will need to be patience when those who are in POWER gives a blind eye.

I request YOU to forgive the attacker and give him the real message of ISLAM of SABR... May ALLAH reward YOU and cure your pain.

MR borse did very good job by arranging a peace meet. it s not a communal clash. some misunderstanding. whatever attacker made its unlawful serious action must be taken against them, before doing anything need to think 100 times. few people's fight may create unrest in entire region.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Middle East based prestigious LuLu Group has come forward to invest $300 million in Karnataka in the retail, logistics and hospitality sectors.

As part of this, the first LuLu mall will commence operations in Bengaluru’s Rajajinagar area by August.

LuLu’s first mall in India, in Cochin, is seen as a huge success. It’s not clear how that mall is doing financially, but it became so popular that it had an adverse effect on almost every other mall in the city.

Lulu’s investment plan for Karnataka was communicated during a discussion between chief minister BS Yediyurappa and Yusuff Ali MA, chairman and managing director of Lulu Group, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The company will also set up two five-star hotels in Bengaluru through Twenty14 Holdings, its hospitality arm, and a modern logistics centre in the Uttara Kannada region.

Lulu Group’s retail initiative Tablez brought Toys `R’ Us, one of the world’s largest toy store chains, to Bengaluru in 2017. Started in the Phoenix Mall in Whitefield, it competes with Reliance-owned Hamleys.

Tablez has also brought in other international brands such as American ice cream parlour chain Cold Stone Creamery, South Africa based flame-grilled chicken concept Galito’s, and Tablez’ own brand Bloomsbury’s, a boutique cafe and bakery. It has also launched Spanish fashion brands Springfield and Women ’secret.

Dubai, May 12: Free tickets are being offered by philanthropists and businessmen based in the UAE for deserving Indians who want to fly home.

Repatriation ticket prices have been set at around Dh700 to Dh750 per person depending on the destination. But there are many in UAE who cannot afford it, especially people who have lost their jobs or have medical concerns.

Malayalam Communications Ltd and its Malayalam stations (Kairali TV & Kairali News) are giving away 1,000 tickets free. Those who wish to apply can submit their application to [email protected].

Indian businessman Dhananjay Datar, chairman & managing director of Al Adil Trading Company, is also giving away 300 tickets. He is liasing with the Consulate General of India (CGI) for the names. “This is the time we need to rise as a community,” he said.

Besides taking care of airfares, Datar will also bear the cost of COVID-19 testing fees for Indians from the UAE.

“The repatriation efforts undertaken by the government of India is one of the largest initiatives. I am just doing a small bit to help the community. There are many people who are not in a position to meet the airfare and COVID testing costs as they have lost jobs. I will be coordinating with authorised entities handing this to lend my support,” he said.

Pravasi India Forum, a welfare organisation in UAE, is giving away 100 tickets. The NGO on Monday, May 11, uploaded a registration form where people can provide their details. “Tickets will be given to those approved by CGI and for those who are in financial distress,” said Abulaise, president of Pravasi Welfare Forum.

Need for more flights

The gesture notwithstanding, many Indians are still waiting to get news on their repatration.

Social worker Shukoorali Kallangal, President, Abu Dhabi Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC), urged the government of India to add more flights to accommodate more passengers.

“Emergency repatriation services are the need of the hour. There are several expats with medical, financial distress. For those who came with the hope of a job – that too is a thing of the past now. Right now all they want is to go home and start something afresh there.”

Kallangal said: “Take the case of pregnant women. In many cases, their husbands have lost jobs or have been asked to go on unpaid leave. They are living hand to mouth and cannot afford medical costs. Due consideration should be given to them.”

Sreedharan Prasad, another social worker based in Ras Al Khaimah, said he is currently dealing with several emergency medical cases.

Consul General of India Vipul said plans are afoot to add more flights in the next phase of Indian repatriation. “The number of flights are being decided by India in consultation with state governments. This is not a normal situation we all are in. We are in the middle of a pandemic situation.”
