Mangaluru gets more rain than last year so far, but less than average

Mangaluru, Jun 27: Even though Mangaluru taluk recorded less than average rain fall this year, it has already breached the last year's monsoon rainfall figures.

However, the meteorological department's prediction of above normal' monsoon has not yet reflected in Mangaluru and other parts of the coastal district.

Last year by June 27 Mangaluru taluk received 770 mm of rain, this year it has been 1032.3 mm so far. The average rainfall for the period is 1248 mm.

The other four districts of Dakshina Kannada received rain less than last year. As a result the overall rainfall in the district so far this year is also less compared to last year.

Till today the district received 843 mm rain this year, last year it was 100.6 mm. The normal rainfall figures for the district during this period are 1,176.2 mm.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: The state government has identified five districts, including Dakshina Kannada, as 'cluster zones' or 'Red zones,' to prevent the spread of Novel Coronavirus.

The other four districts include Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Bengaluru and Chikkaballapur.

Mangaluru has been under strict lockdown, as it is close to Kasargod in Kerala, which reported many positive cases and is also one of the 'hotspots' in the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) list.

Bengaluru, Jun 9: The total number of positive COVID-19 cases in Karnataka rose to 5,921 on Tuesday after the state reported two deaths and 161 new cases of the virus.

"Two deaths and 161 new COVID-19 positive cases reported from yesterday 5 pm till today at 5 pm, taking the total number of positive cases to 5,921," said Karnataka Health Department.

The toll in the state is presently at 66.

While 164 patients have been discharged today, the number of discharged patients so far is 2,605. The active cases in the state stands at 3,248.

Among the new cases, Yadgir contributed highest (61), followed by Bengaluru Urban (29) and Dakshina Kannada (23). Udupi did not report any new case. More details to follow.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: A group of women on Monday started a protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) here near Bilal Masjid.

Members of the transgender community on Sunday had also taken out a march here to express solidarity with those protesting against CAA, NRC, and NPR.

The newly enacted law is facing stiff opposition across the country with some states including Kerala, West Bengal, Rajasthan and Punjab refusing to implement it. Rajasthan, Kerala, and Punjab have also passed resolutions against the amended citizenship law in their legislative Assemblies.

The CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
