Udupi, Jun 30: Anupama Shenoy, former Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kudligi sub-division in Karnataka's Ballari district, on Thursday said she was a victim of both the system and corrupt politics.anupama3006

Shenoy, who had written to the Karnataka State Commission for Women accusing a senior official of 'harassment' on duty, said, "I am a victim of both the system and corrupt politics."

She has accused Ballari Superintendent of Police R Chetan of harassing her because of political pressure.

In a letter dated June 4, addressed to the chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Shenoy directly accused Chetan of harassing her while she was discharging her duties as Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Speaking to media, she said she was just trying to put forward her grievances. "If at all I get justice, it would be great," she said.

"The entire society, and the system, is male dominated. The system is acting to the tune of male ideas. Through this, I am hoping that the system may find some way so that any lady officer, if they are having any grievances, can find a solution," she added.

She also said that she decided to resign and carry this fight forward to express her views. "At least I have mental peace. Job did not provide me any mental peace," she said.

Manjula Mansa, Karnataka Women's Commission chief, said that they have received all the copies. "After preliminary enquiry, we have adjourned the case till July 16. 14 percent of individual statement is necessary, after that we will summon R Chetan," she said.

In her seven page letter to the commission, Shenoy also accused Chetan of causing 'mental torture' by issuing memos to her for 'silly reasons' on returning to Kudligi after her OOD (On Official Duty) was cancelled by the government, following public pressure.

She had tendered her resignation as the DSP on June 4 as, which was accepted by the state government.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) chief DK Shivakumar on Saturday appealed to the authorities to arrange transport for migrant workers, stating that it is appalling to see their plight as they are walking hundreds of kilometres to their villages amid COVID-19 lockdown.
"Appalling to see the plight of poor migrant workers who are walking hundreds of kms to their villages. We cannot abandon our citizens, especially children, and put them at risk. Appealing to the authorities to arrange transport. Please take sufficient safety precautions as well," Shivakumar tweeted.
Hundreds of people, comprising mostly of migrant workers and their families, gathered at the Lal Kua in Uttar Pradesh from Delhi, Gurugram and other places, to take buses to their respective destinations amid the lockdown.
While the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had imposed a nationwide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the Uttar Pradesh administration had decided to ply these buses to help thousands of migrant workers who were stuck in the national capital and had started returning on foot to their native places in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, among others.

Chamarajanagar, Jan 3: The residents of Galipura layout in Chamarajanagar city boycotted the annual Community Based Survey (CBS), conducted by the Health and Family Welfare department, mistaking it to be the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Majority of the residents in the layout belong to Muslim community. The people, who mistook CBS to the NRC survey, got into arguments with the Asha workers, who were given the responsibility of collecting information. They even tore the forms into pieces and vent their ire.

The Health Department conducts CBS every year in the urban areas and collects all details including Aadhaar number, residential address, details of family members, health problems and others.

Fifteen Asha workers were deputed for the survey in the layout. A few youths started questioning them alleging it to be an NRC survey and started arguing with them.
Tahsildar Mahesh, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr N C Ravi, with the help of Muslim leaders cleared the confusion. The community leaders assured of explaining it to the residents and extend cooperation to the survey.
