Mangaluru, Jul 15: Except a faction led by Kerala-based cleric AP Aboobacker Musliyar, representatives of most of the Muslim organisations in Dakshina Kananda on Friday took part in a protest meet organised by a district level forum of the Muslim organisations in Mangaluru against the ongoing vilification campaign against Dr Zakir Naik.

Addressing the hundreds of agitators, who had gathered in front of the office of deputy commissioner in the heart of the city, most of the speakers called the tirade against Dr Naik and other Muslim leaders and movements as an attempt to strip the minority community of its democratic rights by silencing its leaders.

One of the main speakers, Shafi Bellare, Secretary, Karnataka state unit of PFI, accused the central government for deliberately defaming Dr Naik as an attempt to prevent him from spreading the message of peace.

“By this, the government is also trying to intimidate other Islamic religious leaders and scholars,” he said.

Calling Dr Naik a peace loving person, who is respected by the peace lovers of all the communities and religions, the PFI leader lamented that the government and media seized the opportunity seized the opportunity provided by the militant attacks in Bangladesh to falsely project Mumbai-based orator as a person promoting terrorism.

He also accused media and hate-mongers of spreading doctors and edited videos of Dr Naik to create a negative opinion about him among the innocent people.

Haji Abdul Hameed Kandak, Vice President of Muslim Central Committee, demanded that the central government should immediately stop the smear campaign targeted against Dr Naik and warned of intensifying the agitation otherwise.

Muhammad Kunhi from Jama'at-e-Islami Hind, Isamaeel Shafi from South Karnataka Salafi Movement, Haji Abdul Latheef from Jameeathul Falah, Rafeeuddin Kudroli from Uniwef, Haneef Khan Kodaje from SDPI, former Mangaluru Mayor K Ashraf from Muslim Sanghatanegala Okkoota, Mustafa Kempi from Muslim Aikyata Vedike, Azeez Kundroli from Muslim Central Committee, Rafeeq Master from Talent Research Foundation, Umar UH from Muslim Lekhakara Sangha, Jafar Sadiq Faizi from All India Imam's Council, Zakariya Jokatte from Hidaya Foundation were among the guests.

AM Ataullah Jokatte, convenor, Zilla Muslim Sanghatanegala Vedike welcomed the gathering. Aslam Panajala of SIO proposed vote of thanks. Ashraf AK, Taufiq and Zahid compered the programme.

Zakir Naik said : Terrorist is a person who terrorizes, He gave example as, A ROBBER sees a POLICEMEN , He is terrified.
For a Robber, Policemen is a Terrorist.
Inspector ANDRE is a TERRORIST for the UNDERWORLD.
Similarly HE SAID in his speech
FOR a robber, Policemen is terrorist. IN THIS CONTEXT
EVERY MUSLIM should be a terrorist to the ANTI SOCIAL Elements.
EVERY MUSLIM should be a terrorist to the ANTI SOCIAL Elements.
EVERY MUSLIM should be a terrorist to the ANTI SOCIAL Elements.

Whenever a Robber, a Rapist or a CRIMINAL sees a MUSLIM, He should be terrified.
Commonly the word terrorist means \A person who Terrorizes an innocent being\"
In this CONTEXT : No MUSLIM should ever be a TERRORIST....

NOW VIEW : TIMES NOW with ARNAB DECEPTION, Where U R are FOOLED for not VERIFYING the whole CONTEXT of what ZAKIR NAIK says.... Intelligent people understands and God loves them cos of their honesty. Arrogant unintelligent people never understand even if they are in suits and ties.... they love to please the devils with their LIES."

New Delhi, Jul 3: Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) in Karnataka have emerged as a "crucial pillar in the state's success" in combating Covid-19, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday.

Acknowledging and praising their work, the ministry said they have been actively participating in household surveys in the state, screening inter-state passengers, migrant workers and others in the community for symptoms of the infection,

“Around 42,000 ASHAs have emerged as a crucial pillar in the state's success” in combating Covid-19, the ministry said.

"Recognizing the increased vulnerability of certain population groups to Covid-19, in a one-time survey to identify households with the elderly, persons with co-morbidities, and immune-compromised individuals, about 1.59 crore households were covered," the ministry said in a statement.

ASHAs regularly monitor such high-risk groups in their area with a periodicity of follow-up visits varying from once a day in the containment zones to once every 15 days in other areas, it said.

They also visit the houses of persons complaining influenza-like-illness (ILI) symptoms and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI), besides high-risk individuals who have called the state health department helpline numbers, the ministry said.

ASHAs are a part of the Rural Task Force, headed by Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) at the Gram Panchayat level, for addressing public grievances on both Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 related services.

ASHAs are trained female community health activists selected from the village itself and accountable to it. They are trained to work as an interface between the community and the public health system.

In the urban areas too, they have been at the forefront of dissemination of various awareness activities in fever clinics and swab collection centres in urban areas.

They have also actively screened cases of ILI and SARI in urban areas. They are also part of the screening teams at international and interstate check-posts.

Karnataka has reported 272 Covid-19 deaths and 18,016 cases, according to the health ministry data updated at 8 AM.

Media Release
February 14,2020

Veteran journalist P. Sainath has said that the nation is in a crisis. And this crisis is not limited to just the rural area. It has become a national crisis at various areas such as agriculture, education, economy, job creation etc.

He was delivering the endowment lecture on the topic ‘Indian democracy at the post-liberalization and post-truth era’ at Media Manthan 2020 organized by the PG department of journalism and mass communication at St Aloysius College (Autonomous).

Mr Sainath said that the many policies adopted in the 90s led to India becoming unusually unequal. Referring to the speech Ambedkar had made at the Constituent Assembly while handing over the draft of the Constitution, Mr Sainath said, “Ambedkar had warned about the weakness of Indian democracy that liberty without equality allows the supremacy of a few over the multitude. Liberty, equality and fraternity must be kept together as we cannot have one without the other.”

Mr Sainath stated that the agrarian crisis was no longer about the loss of productivity, employment or about farmer suicide; it was a societal, civilizational crisis. Commenting on the lopsided policies such as cow-slaughter ban, he explained how cow slaughter ban had adversely affected many industries due to their interdependency. While Muslims who slaughtered cows were rendered helpless, the cattle traders who were mostly OBCs lost their earnings as the cattle prices crashed. An important industry like Kolhapur sandals industry in Maharashtra went bankrupt as a result of the cow slaughter ban in Maharashtra. He said the policymakers had no idea how the rural industries were interconnected. Demonetisation too devastated the rural economy as 98 percent of rural transactions happen through cash.

Mr Sainath also spoke about the crisis of inequality which affects the Dalits and the Adivasis far more than anyone else as 90 percent of the rural households take home less than Rs 10,000/- per month. “Women are yet another group whose labour is never counted in the gross domestic product. Women and girls globally do unpaid work which amounts to about 12.5 billion working hours per year. Monetarily speaking, this is worth 10.8 trillion dollars,” Mr Sainath added.

Speaking about the crisis of jobs Mr Sainath said that major companies were laying off employees just to create more profits for the investors and the adoption of artificial intelligence in the industry would further destroy millions of jobs.

Rector of St Aloysius College Institutions Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, Principal Dr (Fr) Praveen Martis SJ, HOD of Journalism and Mass Communication department Dr (Fr) Melwyn Pinto SJ were present.

‘Veerappan and Vijay Mallya’s business models are interesting!’

Addressing the gathering during his endowment lecture on Friday, Mr Sainath made an interesting comment on the so called ‘revenue model’. “Whenever I visit IIMs and IITs for lectures on my PARI project, the students there ask me what my revenue model for my project is. I tell them that I do not have a revenue model. In fact, journalism does not begin with a revenue model. Gandhiji, Ambedkar, Bhagat Singh were all great journalists. But they did not have a revenue model,” Mr Sainath said.

On a lighter note, he said that the best revenue model that he liked was that of forest brigand Veerappan and liquor baron Vijay Mallya. “Veerappan ruled the forest for forty years and from the top ministers to the villagers he could dictate terms and liver royally. Similarly, Mallya’s revenue model was to steal the banks and run away abroad and live like a king,” Mr Sainath added.

Journalism is not and can never be a business. It is a calling, he opined. While newspaper can be a business, television can be a business, journalism per se cannot be reduced to a business. “Unfortunately today, journalists are recruited on a contract basis and they have no bargaining power; and there are no unions to fight for their cause. Hence, they are at the mercy of the corporate media houses for their survival and are made to write stories that cannot be called journalism,” Mr Sainath said.

Answering a question as to the pressures he faced as a journalist, he said that external pressures from the government or others could be very well handled. It is the internal pressures from once own media house that journalists find it difficult to manage.

Bengaluru, Jan 23: An alleged low-intensity blast on Wednesday late evening in Shanthinagar left three-time Congress MLA NA Harris and six others with burn injuries. The blast reported at around 8:30 pm during a cultural programme gripped the central parts of Bengaluru in a panic especially after the incident of police recovering a live bomb in Mangaluru airport.

According to sources in Shanthinagar, MLA Harris was attending the birthday celebrations of MGR organized by the locals close to his residence in Shanthinagar. Following the blast, Harris and a few others who standing close to the MLA sustained burn injuries and rushed to the nearby Philomena Hospital immediately and police officials from both the Ashok Nagar and Vivek Nagar visited the spot. The police officials are yet to confirm whether it was a bomb blast or due to the bursting of loud and powerful crackers.

Chethan Singh Rathore, DCP (Central) visited the hospital and the blast site. A team of forensic science lab experts have also been summoned to the spot to collect samples for ascertaining the nature of the blast. MLA Harris’s son Mohammed Nalapad who rushed to the hospital along with supporters told media persons that they are completely shocked by the incident.

“He was sitting on a chair and suddenly something that was hurled at him exploded beneath the chair. He sustained injuries to his leg and brought to the hospital. He is being treated by a team of doctors and other injured supporters are also being attended to by the doctors,” Nalapad said.

Expressing shock over the incident, he said, “My father has been an MLA for 12-years and nothing of this sort had happened before in the constituency. We have no rivals and my father never had any gunmen. We are all shocked and have complained to the jurisdictional police.”

Meantime, Dr Shankar Prasad, Medical Director, St Philomena’s Hospital explained that Harris and others are currently being treated for minor injuries. “None of them have any open cut injuries and they are being examined further,” Dr Prasad told DH.

According to Dr Prasad, Harris had a minor blood clot in his left leg which was possibly due to a hard object hitting him during the blast. “We have taken X-Ray and examining further. At the look of it, it seems like a very minor injury,” he added.
