Madrasa teacher arrested for alleged unnatural sex with three boys

arrest Mangaluru, Jul 19: In a shocking incident, a madrassa teacher hailing from Dakshina Kannada district was arrested in Kasaragod district following complaints that he indulged in unnatural sex with three boys studying in the institution.

The accused is Abdul Haneef, 37, a native of Vittal in Bantwal taluk, who had joined the madrassa at Udayanagar at Pullur, near Kanhangad, some two years ago.

The teacher landed in trouble after three students came out in open against the teacher, forcing the parents to register formal complaints with the police.

The teacher who was charged under provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POSCO) was on Monday remanded to two weeks in judicial custody by the District Sessions Court here, which exclusively tries sexual offences against children.

Mangaluru: Youth dies in lift accident at wedding hall

Mangaluru, Mar 1: A youth lost his life in a lift crash at a wedding hall at Kallapu near Thokkottu on the outskirts of the city today.

The deceased has been identified as Hamzah (30), a resident near Thumbay, who was part of the catering team hired for the marriage ceremony.

The tragedy occurred at around 2 p.m. when Hamzah was getting ready to bring utensils and other things by lift from the third floor of the hall. All of a sudden, the lift’s ropes came loose and Hamzah lost his balance and got trapped inside.

He was pulled out and rushed to a hospital in Deralakatte, but he breathed his last on the way. He is survived by his wife and three children.

Film producer V K Mohan commits suicide

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Film producer, philanthropist and entrepreneur V K Mohan committed suicide by hanging himself in a hotel in the city on Monday, police said.

Mohan, who hailed from Kundapur Taluk, Udupi District, was a famous film producer and hotelier.

According to police, Mohan arrived at the hotel on Sunday night and when he did not open the door of his room on Monday, hotel staffs, grew suspicious and peeped through the room window, found him hanging.

Staff Of 14 Identified Departments In Karnataka To Resume Work Amid Lockdown

Bengaluru, Apr 16: The Karnataka government on Wednesday identified 14 departments as essential and asked all its employees to attend work during the extended period of lockdown to check coronavirus spread in the state.

According to a circular issued by Chief Secretary TM Vijay Bhaskar, all classes of officials/employees in these departments must attend to their work.

The departments are: Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Home, Revenue, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Urban Development, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Information and Public Relations, Transport, Energy, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (e-Governance), Finance (including treasuries), Animal Husbandry and Fisheries and Forest, Ecology and Environment.

In all other departments, only Group-A officers have been directed to report for duty.

However, those visually-impaired or physically-

handicapped are exempt from work, the circular said, adding that this norms will be valid till April 19.
