Bajrang Dal leader accused of attacking, robbing Hindu youth in temple town

attackMangaluru, Aug 3: Once again a Hindu youth was attacked by a local Bajrang Dal leader and his associates, who normally target Muslims and Christians in the region.

The victim has been identified as Chandrakanth (31), a resident of Dharmasthala, the temple town of Dakshina Kannada district.

According to Mr Chandrakanth, who is recuperating at the government hospital in Belthangadi, he was playing volleyball with friends in Dharmasthala when Bhaskar and his associates attacked him.

After brutally attacking with lethal weapons, the gang also robbed Mr Chadrakanth of his gold chain and ring.

A case has been registered at Dharmasthala police station and investigations are on. It is suspected that an old animosity between the victim and the local Bajrang Dal leader led to the attack.

Bengaluru, Jan 30: The BJP government of Karnataka has given green signal to the proposal of hiking milk prices by Rs 2 per litre.

The new prices will come into effect from February 1. Seeking revision of prices, the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) had submitted a proposal last week to the state government. Alongside the revision of milk prices, the state government has also hiked the prices of curd by Rs 2 per liter.

The sudden hike in the prices of milk, curd is likely to have a cascading effect on the milk related beverages such as coffee, tea, and milkshakes with hoteliers and eateries mulling to increase the prices of coffee and tea following the hike in prices.

Sources in the state government revealed to DH that out of Rs 2, farmers will be getting a lion’s share as their accounts will be credited with Rs 1. Another 40 paise will be given to the farmers towards the insurances of their livestock.

Another 40 paise will go to the milk salesmen in the form of commission. The remaining 20 paise will be distributed among the workforce at the milk cooperative unions as an additional incentive.

The covid-19 lockdown has thrown wedding plans in disarray in coastal Karnataka like all other activities involving a crowd of people. While many people chose to postpone the scheduled and about to be scheduled weddings, some are going ahead with scheduled plans and holding weddings with no more than 50 guests as per the guidelines issued by the government of Karnataka. 

The government may relax the norms and allow participation of more guests in the future. However, holding wedding ceremonies will be a new challenge when people are returning to a ‘new normalcy.’ Compared to the traditional wedding ceremonies of the region, marriages in the time of Covid-19 are expected to be smaller as the organizers have to adhere to the safety protocol and safe distancing norms. “The postponed weddings will take place in the coming days as the lockdown is being relaxed in a phased manner. However, it won’t be like our traditional weddings. There won’t be 3000 guests.  Government directives will be have followed.
