Bajrang Dal activists held for setting bus ablaze to create tension in DK

Mangaluru, Aug 6: Two miscreants belonging to Bajrang Dal have been arrested by the police for allegedly setting ablaze a KSRTC bus in Nellikatte village in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district on November 12, 2015.

bus1The arrested have been identified as Jayanth K P (28) and T K Prajwal (21), who undertake fabrication works.

The duo had allegedly resorted to arson attack the night before the bandh called to condemn the death of Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Kuttappa.

The Puttur Town police said that Jayanth and Prajwal heard of the death of Hindutva activist Kuttappa in Madikeri while returning from work.

In the night, duo thought of creating tension and set ablaze the KSRTC bus parked in a private bus station. Jayanth was arrested near the bus stand on Friday.

From him, the police got to know that Prajwal, who was arrested by Sullia Police in connection with an attempt to murder case on Thursday, was the other person involved in the incident.

Mangaluru, Jul 4: In the wake of mounting coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada, all jewellery shops district will be closed for five days from July 5 to July 9.

The decision was taken by the Dakshina Kannada district unit of Jewellers’ Association.

All the jewellery shops including corporate jewellery shops in Manglauru and other parts of district will remain closed for five days, a media release said.

Manglauru, July 30: There will be no congregational prayer on Eid Al-Adha at the historic Eidgah mosque in Mangluru’s lighthouse hill this year due to covid-19 pandemic. 

The decision to suspend the Eid prayers in Eidgah was taken as per the guidelines issued by the State Board of Auqaf, said Haji Y Abdullah Kunhi, president of Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid and Eidgah Masjid.

However, Eid prayer will be held at Zeenat Baksh Central Juma Masjid on July 31 at 7 a.m.

Muslims in coastal Karnataka will be celebrating Eid al-Adha on July 31 whereas Muslims in other parts of Karnataka and India are celebrating the festival on August 1.

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

He was suffering from fever since the last few days and today his swab results came out positive.

He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city and his condition is stated to be stable.
