gauBhatkal, Aug 8: In spite of stern warning to so called cow protectors by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a group of Hindutva activists on Sunday assaulted a cattle transporter near a village in Kumta of Uttara Kannada district.

Eyewitnesses said that around 100 people stopped a vehicle near a temple in Hosa Haravatta, in which two cows and a calf were being transported.

Among those present were activists of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike. People, who lost their cows recently, were also present.

The group rained blows on Nagabhushan Hegde (40), the driver, who according to vigilantes was illegally transporting cows. The group then handed him over to the police and lodged a complaint.

According to the police, Hegde said he was transporting the cattle on behalf of Subraya Madiwalar. A medical examination report did not reveal any wound on his body, the police said.

The police have registered a case against Hegde, who was remanded in judicial custody.modi

Mangaluru, June 11: The private flight chartered by Saudi Arabia's SAQCO Contracting Company to repatriate coastal Kannadigas stranded in the kingdom landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 1:15 am on Wednesday.

The flight with 175 passengers took off from the Dammam International Airport around 6 pm (KSA time).

SAQCO’s Directors Althaf Ullal and Basheer Sagar said that all the legal procedures were carried out smoothly before the flight took off from Dammam for Mangaluru.

The duo also informed that no staff or official of SAQCO were traveling on the chartered flight and that it was arranged only for the stranded Kannadigas. The cost of traveling, institutional quarantine, and COVID-19 tests will be borne by the SAQCO Company.

SAQCO had established a desk to finalize the list of passengers who will be traveling on the flight to Mangaluru on Wednesday. The company added priority was given to pregnant women, the senior citizens who had come to the kingdom on visit visas, people with medical emergencies, people who had lost jobs, and those who had reported deaths in their families.

Mangaluru, June 10: The first direct repatriation flight from Damma to Mangaluru International Airport under Vande Bharat Mission will be operated on June 21.

Thousands of people from coastal districts of Karnataka are stranded without flights in different parts of Saudi Arabia after the announcement of covid lockdown in March this year.

Even though the government of India launched Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indian expatriate through special flights, no flight was scheduled from Saudi Arabia to Mangaluru.

Several organisations had exerted pressure on the government of India and government of Karnataka to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia.

With the sole intention of helping the stranded Kannadigas, a few philanthropists in Saudi Arabia last month formed an NGO called Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum under the leadership of Zakariya Bajpe and Sheikh Expertise.
