I-Day lie exposed: Village mentioned by PM Modi still without power!

August 18, 2016

Lucknow, Aug 18: Nagla Fatela village in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district, which found mention in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech as being “electrified” 70 years after freedom, is still “powerless”.

According to the UP Power Corporation officials here, Nagla Fatela did have power lines, but they were meant only for supplying power for irrigation and running the tubewells and not lighting homes. Some residents, however, had electrified their homes through illegal connections, the officials said. They said that the village was being supplied power for irrigation purposes for the last 25 years.

The corporation sources here said that the work of installing transformers, poles and wires, which was taken up under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Village Electrification Project, had almost been completed in the village, but power was yet to be supplied.

A resident of the village said power lines had been installed almost a year ago. The residents also said that the village where the people were shown watching TV during the prime minister's speech in a post on social media by a Union minister was not theirs.

Sources said that power officials rushed to the village to conduct a survey after Modi mentioned the village in his speech. “We are expecting supply of power within a few days,” said a senior official.

Modi, during his I-Day speech, said that Nagla Fatela village was three hours drive from Delhi, but it took 70 years for power to reach the village.

Bengaluru, Feb 11: A 36-year-old woman who fought back after being stabbed eight times by a helmet-clad intruder succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

Susheela was in shock after she pulled off the attacker’s helmet as it was her own brother-in-law. Before breathing her last, she explained the sequence of events to the police.

She said her brother-in-law attacked her because he was eyeing their ancestral property worth over Rs 10 crore. “Susheela put up a stiff resistance and identified her assailant. But the stab injuries proved to be fatal,” said a police officer. Based on her statement, Ananth Kumar, 42, was arrested on murder charges.

The attack occurred on February 7 at Honaganahatti village in Tavarekere, off Magadi Road. Susheela, whose husband Gangaraju died in a road accident 12 years ago, was living with her 14-year-old daughter and 75-year-old mother, Rudramma.

On Friday, her daughter had gone to school and Rudramma was sitting outside the house when a man walked in wearing a full-faced helmet and attacked Susheela with a knife. She defended herself with a stick used for making ragi balls and by throwing chilli powder at his face. But the attacker stabbed her on the hand, neck and head. He fled when Susheela identified him and raised an alarm. Neighbours rushed her to a hospital.

During questioning, Kumar reportedly confessed to the crime, saying he wanted to get rid of her as she was not agreeing to sell five acres of their ancestral property.

Susheela’s nephew Kiran G said: “The family owned six acres. Kumar sold one acre for Rs 50 lakh a few years ago after convincing Susheela. He, however, paid her only Rs 5 lakh. Lately, he was pestering Susheela to sell the remaining land as buyers were ready to pay Rs 2.5 crore per acre. But she was hesitating as she had been cheated by him earlier.”

Police are now examining the circumstances under which Gangaraju was killed. “We learnt the driver who had been arrested in connection with Gangaraju’s accident is currently working with Kumar,” said an officer.

Mangaluru, Jun 11: City police on Thursday filed a 700-page chargesheet in connection with the arrest of Aditya Rao, 36, accused of planting an IED at Mangaluru International Airport on January 20.

The chargesheet said the bag placed near MIA entrance had a real bomb, as per the FSL report. The IED in the tin box was made of sulphur, ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and charcoal.

Rao, an engineer, who learnt bomb-making through online videos, had also placed a timer along with it and sharp objects such as nails and metals. However, he had not fixed wires to trigger a blast. “His intention was not to cause a blast but only to create a scare,” said sources.

The bomb was made in less than two weeks. However, it had taken Rao several days to procure raw materials. Police had completed the chargesheet process in April.

Though Mr Khader did not file a complaint, the Congress party had urged the police to register a suo motu case.
