Udupi, Aug 18: Even though many among the cow vigilantes who lynched an alleged cow trafficker to death in Udupi on August 17, did not know the fact that the victim was a BJP worker, those who led the attack knew him very well, reliable sources said.

attackreasonA group of around 30 people owing allegiance to Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal on Wednesday night attacked Praveen Poojary (29), and his aide Akshay Devadiga (22) near Hebri in Karkala taluk of Udupi district under the pretext of illegal cow transportation.

While Poojary, a known BJP activist in the region, breathed his last at a hospital, Devadiga is recuperating slowly. According to sources, a few among the assailants were waiting for an opportunity to “teach a lesson” to Poojary.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara also said that prima facie cattle trade-related business dispute may be the reason behind the killing of the BJP worker.

"Many of the assailants have been arrested in connection with the incident. Police are suspecting some sort of a cattle trade-related business dispute," he said, adding police have taken up the case.

Noting that he does not see a communal angle to the incident "at this point of time", Parameshwara said "some reason must be there, we will find out". He said.

"... We don't know at this stage, but they are suspecting some sort of a dispute because of the trade, it is not definite, but they are suspecting. Investigation will give us the final picture."

Parameshwara also expressed concern over repeated incidents relating to beef and cattle trade in Karnataka. "We are vigilant; we will definitely try and maintain peace and order. I appeal to the people who are trying to create this kind of disturbance not to do this because we are a tolerant society and we should not create these kinds of issues," he said.

Clash between two terror groups is not a bad development in all ways. It may be useful to establish peace in society.

Read the advice given by home minister to the cow vigilantes. Talking as if they are his own family members. How sweet words he used!!!

As far as I know the victim was also a so called gau rakshaks. He used to actively take part in protests and other activities of VHP and BD in Karkala. I think this is purely a case of business dispute.

Yes. They know very well that cow cannot be their mother. They all are partners in illegal cattle transporting, selling and swallowing. Cow is always a handy pretext for them to execute their criminal plans like this.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 28: A man from Kerala was among the terrorists affiliated to Islamic State (IS) who allegedly attacked a Gurdwara in Kabul earlier this week in which 27 people were killed.

The IS has claimed that one of the suicide bombers was Abu Khalid al-Hindi.

According to sources, investigation agencies on Friday have identified him as 29-year-old Mohammed Sajid Kuthirummal of Padne in Kasargod. He was among the 14 persons, who left from Kerala to join IS in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

"IS had released the name Abu Khalid al-Hindi through its media agency soon after the attack. The photograph of him holding a rifle was also published by IS in their propaganda magazine Al Naba. From that, we have identified the person as Mohammed Sajid Kuthirummal. We are investigating the matter and in touch with the investigating agencies in Afghanistan for tracking his trail," sources told ANI.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe had earlier revealed that Mohammed Sajid was recruited by Abdul Rashid Abdulla of Chandera, who was killed in Afghanistan last year.

Sajid worked as a shop keeper in a gulf country and returned to Kerala. Based on a complaint by Sajid's father Mahamood, the FIR was registered at Chendara Police Station, Kasaragod in 2016 regarding Sajid joining IS and leaving for Afghanistan.

He was among the 14 member team that left from Kerala to join IS in Khorasan Province' in Nangarhar.

ANI had earlier reported that two of these members Ayesha alias Sonia Sebastian and Fathima alias Nimisha who were in IS had expressed their interest in returning to Kerala. Out of 14, seven including Sajid is dead.

First, investigate truly who is behind this? Then hang all of them.

Bengaluru, Mar 3: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday introduced the Karnataka Municipalities and Certain Other Law (Amendment) Bill, 2020, in the assembly to give voters the opportunity to reject candidates in civic polls.

The bill, if passed, will enable election officials to offer the NOTA option in the elections to municipal corporations on the lines of assembly and Lok Sabha polls.

An amendment bill which seeks to enable the government to set up a separate university for the districts of Raichur and Yadgir was also tabled. The government said the workload of Gulbarga University necessitated creation of a separate university for the two districts, a move that will also help reduce regional imbalance in Kalyana Karnataka region.

Another amendment bill seeks to allow industrial units, which have failed to start operations on allotted land after seven years, to sell off the parcels to another unit. Bills which empower authorised agencies to regulate turf clubs and horse racing and regulate salary and pension of teachers in higher education institutions were also introduced in the assembly on Monday.
