Mangaluru, Aug 21: Expressing concern over reports of increasing terror activities in southwest coast of India, senior BJP leader and Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda stressed on the need for taking measures to prevent the activities of IS in the region.

He was delivering a talk at 'Tiranga Yatra' and 'Balidana Smarane', in the presence of BJP supremo Amit Shah at Mangala Auditorium of Mangalore University on Sunday.

"Mangaluru is a place located between Kasaragod and Bhatkal. From Kasargod, we have seen that several youngsters have joined IS. Meanwhile, Bhatkal has seen many with terror links and they have threatened the country. Hence, Mangaluru is a central place where a new message needs to be conveyed as per the visions of our Prime Minister," Mr Gowda said adding that the patriotic message should echo through the west coast - from Thiruvananthapuram to Mumbai.

He said, there are several instances to prove the depth of nationalism among Indians. But unfortunately, we also hear voices against the country. Even when India is witnessing a fast-paced development with Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiating various schemes, anti-national slogans are being raised at various corners of the country.

“Instilling patriotism in each Indian is the only solution to eliminate these anti-national activities. Hence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon people to celebrate the Independence Day by remembering freedom fighters,” he said.

The Prime Minister has made it a responsibility of all ministers to reach out to the freedom fighters, their families and honour them, he added. Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel spoke about Veerarani Abbakka, who fought against the Portuguese and the British.

Oh Prime Minister! we lived peacefully in mangalore for years together.
for the record it was only your party \dirty politics\" that created problems in our city. all religions live in harmony here. it was so unnessasary to create TERROR in hearts of our fellow people by raising the topic of IS which many across the world know already is a lame group which no human want to belong to. just because kasargod and bhatkal has muslim majority it doesnt mean you have to tagline muslims as terrorist..it hurts our sentiments. much more because WE MUSLIMS ARE NOT USED TO LIARS, FORGET TERRORISM. muslims being quite doesnt mean we agree to all that you say. we just dont want to add fuel to the fire that you politicians have ignited! Remember this: that we YOUTH have nothing to look upto in you politicians..you are never going to be our role models regarding peace and ruling a country in a JUST manner. You can never divide the present YOUTH based on our religion!!! never ever dream of!"

It tooks 70 years to hoist the national flag at Nagpur RSS headquarters.
This is a drama by BJP in the name of Tiranga Yatra to fool the innocent people. Real nationalism and patriotism comes from the heart not from the lips. Amith Shah should visit Srirangapattanam to pay tribute to the real hero of the Independence struggle Tippu Sultan before returning to Delhi. Tippu is the only leader you can find in the history died in the battle field fighting against the British for the country.

Bengaluru, May 17: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi on Sunday wrote to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari requesting to issue new lockdown guidelines including permission to operate public transport and said the lockdown has caused a financial loss of Rs 16,00 crore to all four Karnataka Transport Undertakings.

In view of these problems, the state Transport Minister requested Gadkari to permit the deployment of Non-AC buses on scheduled routes to ensure the adequacy of services.

The four State Transport Undertakings (STUs) in Karnataka which are providing bus-based public transport services within the state and to the neighbouring states are Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), North Eastern Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

"KSRTC, NWKRTC and NEKRTC operate buses for mofussil services i.e. Interdistrict, intradistrict and interstate, whereas BMTC operates only in urban and suburban areas in the city of Bengaluru. The four STUs put together hold a fleet of about 24,900 buses including 1,520 air-conditioned buses and operate about 71.00 lakh km. per day and carries about 98.00 lakh passengers every single day," Savadi outlined in the letter.

The Minister said due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown that ensued have brought regular bus operations and functioning to a grinding halt.

"This has caused a devastating impact on the operations of all the four STUs due to the combination of lack of revenue and continuing fixed costs such as salaries and pensions to staff, payables against existing loans etc. It has been estimated that the lockdown has caused a financial loss of INR 1,600/- crore to these four STUs," he added.

Savadi said even after post-COVID lockdown, operations and revenues won't reach its previous demand& supply patterns in the next six to eight months due to reduced economic activity and users' perceived risk of contacting COVID in public transport.

In addition to that, "occupancy should be allowed up to seating capacity (without standees). This is essential to meet minimal demand," he said in the letter.

"The crew should wear facemask and hand gloves. The crew with health issues should not be deployed. The face masks should be made mandatory for all the passengers. Only asymptomatic persons should be allowed to travel in public transport. The Government of India may consider staggering working hours for various sectors to reduce peak hour traffic demand," the minister listed out these recommendations in the letter.

Savadi said that with social distancing norm of reduced seating capacity in public transport, it will not be possible to provide transport facility to all the daily passengers. This will create demand for more buses, which cannot be met.

"Restrictions on public transport will lead to passenger commute by overcrowding in smaller vehicles like cars, maxi cabs, goods tempos etc. which will adversely affect preventive measures," he added.

Therefore, Savadi requested Union Minister to look into the above matter and issue fresh guidelines to all the states / UT's.

Dubai, May 18: An Indian working in a mining company in the UAE has become the latest expatriate to have lost his job for hate-filled social media posts targeting Islam and Muslims.

Brajkishore Gupta was fired without notice for calling Indian Muslims 'coronavirus spreaders' and hailing the Delhi violence as 'divine justice' in his Facebook posts.

Gupta, who is from Chapra, Bihar, was employed by Stevin Rock, a mining company headquartered in Ras Al Khaimah city.

"This isolated incident involving a junior employee was investigated and dealt with immediately resulting in the termination without notice of this person's employment with Stevin Rock," said the company's business development and exploration manager Jean-Francois Milian.

"Our company policy supports the direction of the UAE government in promoting tolerance and equality and strongly renouncing racism and discrimination and we have sent communications to all of our employees irrespective of their religious or ethnic background reminding them that any such behaviour is unacceptable and will lead to immediate dismissal," Milian was quoted as saying in the report.

Three Indians based in the UAE were either fired or suspended from their jobs for "Islamophobic" posts on social media early this month.

On April 20, India's ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor had warned Indian expatriates against such behaviour.

"India and UAE share the value of non-discrimination on any grounds. Discrimination is against our moral fabric and the Rule of law. Indian nationals in the UAE should always remember this," he said in a tweet.

Last month, Sharjah-based businessman Sohan Roy had to apologise for "unintentionally hurting religious sentiments" through his poem, which alluded to a Muslim religious group.

In March, chef Trilok Singh was fired from a restaurant in Dubai for an online threat against a student in Delhi over her views on the Citizenship Amendment Act.

New Delhi, Feb 20: Microsoft has begun testing its free open-source software called "ElectionGuard" in a small Wisconsin town in the US that aims to make voting more secure, verifiable and efficient.

"ElectionGuard" will enable end-to-end verification of elections, open results to third-party organisations for secure validation, and allow individual voters to confirm their votes were correctly counted.

It enables government entities, news outlets, human rights organisations or anyone else to build additional verifiers that independently can certify election results have been accurately counted and have not been altered, according to the company.

The software would create a paper trail and assure voters their votes were properly tallied.

"On Tuesday, Fulton residents are using the technology while choosing who will join the local school board and hold a seat on Wisconsin's state Supreme Court," reports CNBC.

With the test, the company aims to see if voters like the experience and make sure everything works fine.

In May last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced "ElectionGuard".

According to Tom Burt, Corporate Vice President, Customer Security and Trust, voting system manufacturers will be free to build ElectionGuard into their systems in a variety of ways.

"These are exciting steps that enable individual voters to confirm their vote was properly counted, and assures those voters using an ElectionGuard system of the most secure and trustworthy vote in the history of the US," Burt said in a recent blog post.

"ElectionGuard" is not intended to replace paper ballots but rather to supplement and improve systems that rely on them, and it is not designed to support internet voting.

The software provides each voter a tracker with a unique code that can be used to follow an encrypted version of the vote through the entire election process via a web portal provided by election authorities.

During the process of vote-casting, voters have an optional step that allows them to confirm that their trackers and encrypted votes accurately reflect their selections.

But once a vote is cast, neither the tracker nor any data provided through the web portal can be used to reveal the contents of the vote.

After the election is complete, the tracker codes can be used by voters to confirm that their votes were not altered or tampered with and that they were properly counted, said Microsoft.

On the security front, "ElectionGuard" uses something called homomorphic encryption - which enables mathematical procedures "like counting - to be done with fully encrypted data".
