Mangaluru, Aug 22: Cow vigilantes of coastal Karnataka, who apparently vow allegiance to Sangh Parivar, are receiving funds from some builders and NRIs, according to an Aam Aadmi Party leader.

cowvigilante“These gau rakshaks getting money from some prominent NRIs and builders for their activities,” Rohan M Siri, Dakshina Kannada district secretary in-charge of AAP.

The comment comes days after BJP worker Praveen Poojary was hacked to death by a group of Hindutva activists for allegedly involving in illegal cow transportation in Udupi district.

Mr Rohan also slammed Karnataka's ruling Congress for failing to curb cow vigilantism, immoral policing and communal clashes in coastal belt even three years after coming to power.

Even though there is no authorized cattle protection force in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts, activists of Hindutva groups like Vishva Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Sri Ram Sena often turn cow vigilantes and attack those who transport cows. Sometimes habitual offenders resort to cow vigilantism for the sake of money.

Bengaluru, Feb 27: About 60kg of unaccounted gold ornaments worth Rs. 21 crore were unearthed by officers of the Commercial Taxes Department of Karnataka Government.

The ornaments were recovered after the department conducted surprise inspections and raided business premises of wholesale jewellery dealers in Ranganatha Mansion and Sakalajee Market in Chickpet area of Bengaluru on Tuesday.

"The raid was based on information that many traders from other states visit the city and carry gold jewels without any valid documents and supply it to local jewellers without invoices," said Srikar MS Commissioner of Commercial Taxes in a statement.

The officers raided the premises of 23 jewellers and found 60 kg gold ornaments in stock which were not covered by valid documents. A penalty was levied on the undocumented ornaments.

"It is informed that the enforcement wing is keeping a close watch on the interstate movement of gold, silver and all the dealers in the state are hereby advised not to buy any goods without valid purchase invoices, added Srikar MS.

Bengaluru, Apr 14: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday demanded that BS Yediyurappa-led government should cut down on 'unnecessary' expenditures to mobilise funds to fight against coronavirus.

"Yediyurappa government needs to cut down on unwanted expenses which government is spending on several things in order to save the taxpayers money to fight against coronavirus," said Siddaramaiah here in a press conference.

He alleged that the ruling state government is indulged in corruption due to which the government is running bankrupt, adding that instead of mobilising funds, Yediyurappa government is only concentrating on auction of Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) sites.
Siddaramaiah claimed that the "BDA was already in loss".

"The present government does not have money due to its involvement in corruption. The Karnataka government must concentrate on cutting expenses and there is no need to waste money on unwanted things including vehicles for board and corporations chiefs," said the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader.

"Yediyurappa government has decided to auction more than 12,000 BDA sites to get benefit of Rs 15,000 crore, rather than fullfiling requirements of people of the state at the time of coronavirus crisis," he said.

In Karnataka, 247 people have tested positive for coronavirus, including 59 cured and discharged and 6 deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry.
