Agra, Aug 29: Union Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma on Sunday stirred a controversy after he suggested women foreign tourists not to wear skirts. He said women tourists should also refrain from going out alone at night.

"For their own safety, women foreign tourists should not wear short dresses and skirts... Indian culture is different from the western culture." Sharma said.

He was addressing a press conference in Agra. He also announced a helpline number 1363 to help foreign tourists.

Sharma's comments incited criticism on social media, where some also asked him if it will curb molestations and rape.

Women who visit as tourists to India end up becoming victims of rape due to Indian spiteful culture.#BarbaricIndia#SpitefulIndianCulture

If #India wants (and it can get) 100 million tourists a year one day, it won't happen through a tourism minister who doesn't get #tourism.

Mangaluru, Apr 12: A 10-month-old baby who tested COVID-19 positive on March 27 completed treatment and discharged from hospital on Saturday.

He was the youngest positive case in Karnataka, from Sajipanadu village in Bantwal taluk.

The child had been with his mother to a relative's house at Monetepadau village, situated on the Karnataka-Kerala border in the first week of March.

A few days later the child developed an acute respiratory illness and tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

Treating the breastfeeding child was challenging for doctors as he had to be isolated. A team of doctors from Wenlock Hospital took up this challenge and successfully cured the baby.

Test reports on his mother and grandmother too have returned negative. They too had been under quarantine and were discharged with the baby.

Another positive development was that no COVID-19 case has been reported from the child's village.

The entire Sajipanadu village was completely sealed after the child tested positive and the district had provided all the necessary supplies to the villagers.

Bengaluru, Jan 13: RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat on Monday held a protest march at Ramnagar district’s
Kapalabetta under the aegis of Hindu Jagran Vedike’s ‘Kanakapura Chalo’ campaign against the construction of the world’s largest Jesus statue there.

Hundreds of protesters of the Vedike staged a protest march in the city starting from the Kanakapura Ayyappaswamy temple.

“We are not here to disturb the peace. We have met each other at the wedding of Sriramulu’s daughter. So you know who I am, DK Shivakumar. How long will you continue with these lies? Is the intention behind the statue of Jesus to solidify your vote bank? Build the statue in America or England, we will not allow it here,” said the RSS leader as the keynote speaker at the rally.
