Kasargod, Sep 8: The Kasaragod police have registered a case against a Salafi preacher associated with a mosque here on a complaint that his speech being circulated in the social media will create enmity among different communities in society.

salafiDistrict Police Chief Thomson Jose said that he has handed over the complaint to the police station concerned and ordered them to register a case on Wednesday itself.

He said that a case was being registered against Shamsudheen Fareed alias Shamsudheen Palath under Section 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion etc.) of the Indian Penal Code. Further charges, if necessary, would be considered following an investigation, he said.

The complaint was lodged by Kanhangad-based advocate C. Shukkur, who is district president of the Kerala Lawyers' Forum, an association of lawyers loyal to the Indian Muslim League. He is also the district government pleader and public prosecutor.

Mr. Thomson also said that he had handed over to the DPC the compact disk containing the controversial speeches published on YouTube.

Shamsudheen is a preacher in a Salafi mosque at Pallipram here. His controversial speeches at Karaparamba in Kozhikode was based on a book by Saudi scholar Shekh Saleh al-Fawzan on cultivating emotional attachment among fellow Muslims and the need for showing aversion to non-Muslims and their culture.

When contacted, Mr. Shukkur said that he had lodged the complaint as an ordinary citizen. He said that the controversial speeches call upon Muslims in the State to avoid showing personal attachment and respect to non-Muslims. The speeches also urge Muslims to live in areas inhabited only by Muslims, he said.

He said in his complaint that the preacher's speeches were suspected to be a deliberate attempt to undermine prevailing peaceful atmosphere in society. The circulation of the speeches via social media would also promote among non-Muslims suspicion towards Muslims, he said.

Mr. Yogesh / Venki / Sangeeth, i think you are not living in this world. Yu are like a frog in the well. You should come out of the well and see this beautifu world. You are followoing hate mongers like Trump/ Sadhvi prachi and Kalla Bhatta. These hate mongers are spreding poison among different religions whereas you cannot find any thing wrong in Zakir Naik speech. You are criticising his speech only because of frustration due to his popularity among people of other religions. You better consult with a good Doctor as you may go mad soon. Too much of jealosy and hatred is not good for your health. Try to be human being first. Learn to respect others so that you will be respected. Dont follow speeches from Hate mongers. God bless you.

Pathnamthitta, Mar 10: A man under observation for suspected coronavirus infection at the isolation ward of the district hospital here fled, but was tracked and brought back within hours. The man was among those who had interacted with the three-member family who returned from Italy and have tested positive for the virus.

Pathnamthitta district collector PB Nooh said one person, who was under observation at the general hospital had escaped but was later tracked and brought back. "If even a single person under observation goes out, it is a threat. This is a public hazard".

The one excercise which the health authorities have to undertake on Tuesday is to see how many people had come incontact with this person after he left the hospital. There is need to isolate those people with whom he mayhave come into contact, the collector said "This is the timeto behave in a very socially responsible manner".

With six positive cases being reported, the state government has already warned that stringent action would be taken against those flouting the directions of the health department. Health Minister K K Shailaja has warned that those coming from COVID19 affected nations, should report to authorities on arrival in the state, failing which a case would be registered against them under the Public Health Act.

A 3-member family, which had come from Italy recently and had tested positive along with two of their relatives had not reported their arrival to the authorities, health officials said.

At least 733 people who had come in contact with them have been tracked, the collector said and have been placed under observation. While 18 have been admitted to isolation wards in hospital the remaining are under home surveillance.

A two-year-old child is among those under obsevation at the isolation ward, health department sources said. The tracking excercise would continue on Wednesday also.

Meanwhile, an awareness class was held for migrant workers at Pathnamthitta district this morning. However, no directions have been issued to workers fromother states to leave the state. "We are planning to give extra care to migrant workerswith labour officer visiting their colonies and as part of theawareness drive and speaking to them in a language theyunderstand," he said.

A three-year-old boy, who arrived with his parents in Kochi from Italy, tested positive on Monday, a day after three people, also with travel history from the European nation, were declared positive for the virus along with two of their relatives.

The Health Minister has said surveillance system would be stregthened with the support of ASHA workers, civic authorities and ward members and resident associations. Presently, 1,116 people are under surveillance in thestate for the corona virus, 967 in home quarantine and 149 in isolation wards of hospitals. Two 90-year-old relatives of the Pathnamthitta family, who tested positive, have been admitted to Kottayam medicalcollege hospital and their samples have been sent for testing, she said. "If they test positive for the virus, it would be highlyrisky", she had said.

Thiruvanathapuram, Mar 27: The state is heading for its worst ever crisis with coronavirus cases increasing rapidly and Kasargod district the worst hit. On Friday alone 39 positive cases were reported in the state of which 34 are from Kasargod.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the situation is grave and Kasargod has been the worst hit. More than the positive cases reported in the district, the worrying factor is that many people have come into contact with these positive cases.

The chief minister warned that the government will be forced to declare the names of the people who are defying the quarantine guidelines in the district. More people have been put under risk in the district and the district administration is much concerned since the results of 215 samples are yet to come.

There is no other way but to tighten the restrictions imposed in the district against the people coming out of their houses. The government has decided to provide more facilities to the hospitals in Kasargod and Kannur to meet an emergency.

The medical college hospital in Kannur will be converted into a coronavirus hospital with 200 bed strength. Steps have been taken to equip the medical college hospital with more facilities. The Central University at kasargood will be converted into as a temporary coronavirus treatment centre.

The state has also requested permission from ICMR to begin the testing facility here, said the chief minister.

The total number of positive cases reported in the state have now become 176 of which 12 have been discharged after testing negative. At present 164 positive people are admitted in several hospitals of the state.

On Friday of the 39 positive cases, two are from Kannur and one each from Thrissur, Kollam and Kozhikode. With this all the districts in the state have been now affected with coronavirus.
