Country-made bombs hidden near temple seized by police during raid

Kannur, Sep 9: Six country-made bombs were seized from two places on Thursday as the police carried out extensive raids in different parts of the district in the wake of political violence.

The police said that three powerful crude bombs were seized from a homestead of an uninhabited house at Muzhakkunnu, near Iritty, here in the morning.

The area has been tense following the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh worker M. Bineesh on September 3. The bombs were found beneath a heap of bricks, the police said.

The police also recovered three more crude bombs from Pallikkunnu here in the afternoon. The police said that the bombs were found in a compound close to a local temple at Pallikkunnu. The police had unearthed two crude bombs from a nearby plot on Wednesday.

The police said that Pathiriyad here, where a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was stabbed late night on September 7, observed a hartal in protest against the stabbing of another BJP worker Navjith. He has been admitted to a hospital in Kozhikode with serious stab injuries in his legs and hands, the police said. The BJP alleged that the attack was carried out by CPI(M) workers. Mangaluru, Feb 5: The New Mangalore Port implemented the Centre's Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by screening the crew of cargo ships and passengers of Cruise Vessel for the highly contagious and deadly disease Coronavirus.

Sources in the port said that screening was being carried out at the harbour since the past few days, as a precautionary measure. All the 1,800 passengers and 786 crew of Cruise Vessel 'Costa Victoria,' which stopped at the port, were screened.

Arrangements were also made for screening foreign nationals arriving at the Mangalore International Airport (MIA). 

Besides screening, passengers were also made aware of the Coronavirus and the precautionary steps to be taken.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: Examination for PU II English paper, which was postponed for more than three months due to threat of Coronavirus, was held on Thursday across the state.

The authorities were forced to postpone the examination of the English subject, scheduled in March, abruptly due to the threat of Covid-19 which spread like wildfire and has so far claimed lives of more than 100 in the state.

There are over 1,016 examination centres across the state. All the students were put to thermal scanners and were ensured wearing face masks. Each centre has sanitisers. Those with cold, cough and fever were assigned a separate room.

Mysuru, Jan 20: A 100-member team of National Security Guards (NSG) has arrived in the city for bolstering security measures in the tourist centre and to demonstrate the preparedness of the elite force to tackle any exigency in the region.

The annual maintenance of the Mysuru Palace will be taken up on Monday and the NSG commandos are expected to give suggestions and directions for improving the security at the place. It is also said that the commandos may visit Mysuru airport.
