Mangaluru, Sep 9: Calling upon the people to be united for a better Mangaluru, the leaders from different communities and faiths on Friday resolved to isolate communal forces and anti-social elements that take law into hands in the name of religion and disrupt peace.

saif

Religious thinkers from Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, Sikhism and representatives from over a dozen organizations from Dakshina Kannada were part of the United for a better Mangaluru' conclave held at town hall here.

Applauding the efforts of the organizers to bring people together for a noble cause, Mangaluru city police chief M Chandra Sekhar in his valedictory address said that peace loving people from all the communities should speak aloud against injustice and wrong doing they see.

“Unfortunately decent people here are not speaking. If wrongdoers are told on the face about their wrongdoing then he/she will not repeat the same any further,” he said. Mr. Sekhar asked people to report the sale of cannabis and speak against those violating traffic rules.

Earlier, religious leaders and activists unanimously suggested a simple solution to end mistrust among people and to create solidarity: “We should mutually appreciate good deeds. And if there are bad deeds then the wrong doers should be openly called out by their community members, who should not remain silent.”

Sri Eesha Vitaldas Swamy, the chief pontiff of Kemar Sandeepani Ashram, said that those who are involved in communal clashes are actually ignorant of their own religions. "Let us be Mangalureans first before identifying ourselves as Hindus, Muslims, Christians or Sikhs. Our city has been facing several threats either in the name of unscientific projects like Yettinahole or in any other manner. In such scenario, we all should stand united for a better Mangaluru," he added.

Moulana Abdul Azeez Darimi, khateeb of Chokkabettu Mohiuddin Juma Masjid, said only a section of the society is behind all anti-social activities. "People of Mangaluru have shown their tenderness of heart whenever tragedies struck the city. People of all faiths joined hands during the rescue operations when Air India Express flight crashed in Mangaluru. Muslim women were saved from drowning by Hindu youths at Ullal beach. Several such instances shows that Mangaluru can be a better place to live," he added.

Mohammed Kunhi, an Islamic preacher and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind leader, said it was important for community member to correct the mistakes of their community members. When there are good deeds by a Muslim then it should be appreciated by Hindus and vice versa. This would go a long way in building solidarity among communities, he said.

St Joseph Institutions director Rev Fr Onil D'Souza said the idea of oneness is possible only if people of all religions accept it in their life. "Preaching should not be limited only to speeches, but it should be put into practice for harmony in the society. Similarly, no religious practices should create trouble for others," he added.

Gyani Parveen Singh, priest of Mangaluru Sikh Gurudwara, called upon parents to teach children the values of universal brotherhood. "God is in your heart. All fights in the society will come to an end if we find god in every creation in this world," he suggested. Nirmal Kumar, a Jain scholar, said that children should be taught the way to see the world without hatred.

Bunt stalwart Malady Ajith Kumar Rai, fishermen leader Vasudev Bolar, Christian leader Walter Maben, communal harmony activist Suresh Bhat Bakrabail and organizer Saif Sultan also spoke on the occasion.

The organisations that were part of the event are: Ahinda, Buntara Yane Nadavara Mathr Sangha, Catholic Diocese of Mangalore, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, Hidayah Foundation, Highland Islamic Forum, Hope Foundation, Jain Samiti, Karnataka Christian Educational Society, Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, Karnataka Missions Network, KKMA-Karnataka, M Friends, Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Muslim Lekhakara Sangha, Sri Guru Singh Sabha Society, Talent Research Foundation and Yuva Vahini.

Brother Naren,
Highlighting negative part of particular community will not make any person great.May be Ahmadi or whatever other sects you mentioned might be existing in some particular locations but to us ,it doesn't belong to our circle Alhumdulillah!! WE ARE JUST MUSLIMS.
We have here Irani masjids, but if its late for namaz ,i go there.I have seen them having small stones there. But that doesnt make me any less muslim.I said salam to their ladies. Its people like you always put ghee by giving reminders to those muslims who are in doubt of their Islamic identity,so that they always be divided within community.
By the way Bro,I ve seen lot of non muslims like you,who hated Islam to the core, but hating round and round ,they ACCEPTED ISLAM ALSO.On this auspicious day of ARAFAH, I pray to Almighty Allah samething happens with you too.May he guide you to the straight path. The day you become MUSLIM,PLEASE DO COME TO UAE ANNA WILL SERVE YOU BEEF BIRYANI ALONG WITH YEJAMAANA.
LASTLY LETS STRIVE TO UNITE, THAN STRIVING TO DIVIDE.

Brother Viren,
The idea of united for a better mangaluru was done by liberal minds. You might see lot of muslim groups. These are all charity based groups. And charity is compulsory in Islam so there are many philanthropists coming forward to join in and support such groups.
United doesn't mean that Hindus have to perform 5times namaz nor it means muslims have to join in Ganesh chaturti.Being tolerant towards others culture is more united. Now you can see jains, they are vegans, its absolutely fine with us.If they dont eat ,what we eat. Christians are absolutely fine if we dont eat pigs. RESPECT THE SENTIMENTS OF OTHER COMMUNITY.
How long you 'll deny the fact that India is not for all, its for only majority. Every nation has majority and minority, even in monarchy ruled nation like KSA has minority. To Live in co-existence was the main priority of this event. I know many RSS affiliated groups are not happy with unity of all religion, because it 'll axe their business. But let me remind you something ,the bad work you do with bad intention will one day will return back to you itself. BUT AT THE SAME TIME GOOD WORK YOU DO WILL GIVE YOU SO RELIEF TO YOUR SOUL. WE HUMANS ARE CREATED BY GOD IN SUCH A MANNER, THAT BAD THINGS WILL HAVE BAD IMPACT ON US AND AFFECT US MENTALLY, SO YOU CAN SEE SUICIDES, REVENGE MURDER ETC.
Lets do good work so that we remain mentally and physically both happy..

Nattu delight after long time...Punjabi babe message nod de sumar dina agithu ...mangalore ge enu agilla ..ray of hope annodakke ...we nationalist Indians are highly vigilant on third rated community which indulges in anti India activities ...that's it ...here concept is simple using wahabist funds organise programs to project as peace lovers in the back ground its reverse ...

first ur community must fix why drug peddling stealing and smuggling is highest in your community ...teach them.ethics ..so instead ivella beda ..its no use ...

one guy whose name mentioned in comment 1 ..that person went to muzzaffarnagar to do charity service ...he concentrated entirely on his community area ..is he secular ?...when many who were brutally attacked by Muslims were staying next yo the camp...this guy if he is true lover of humanity ...must have served all ...but all gimmick ..kumda initiative ....say that your community will be with him ...not Mangalore

Happy to see positive things happening in Mangaluru. Police commissioner's role also praiseworthy. I thank all the organisers from the bottom of my heart for bringing the dream of all peaceful mangloreans into reality.

Most of the organisers are Muslim groups, which have direct or indirect links with Zakir Naik, who has links with terror organisations. They unitedly fooled Bants organisation and a couple of leaders from Indian nationalist religions.

I want to ask a simple question to those Muslim orgastions: Will the offer prayer to Ganesh and other gods? If no, then you are all hypocrites.

Good programme. The organisers have ignored political leaders and ministers. That's really a great thing.

Bengaluru, Jan 6: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa has plenty on his plate ahead of the 2020-21 state budget to be presented on March 5 what with the economic slowdown and a sizeable shortfall in revenue, but the biggest worry is the uncertainty surrounding Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation from the Centre.

There is also uncertainty over the state’s share under devolution of funds as per the 14th Finance Commission recommendation.

Finance department officials say that while Rs 3,500 crore is expected as GST compensation for every two months, the devolution of funds would have yielded about Rs 7,000 crore for the current fiscal. But the economic slowdown appears to have hit the Centre’s finances and is likely to impact the state’s share of funds.

“The GST payment for August-September came only in December and we are unsure how much we will get for October-November and December-January,” an official said. Estimates suggest the state’s share under devolution of funds could be reduced by half.

At a meeting of finance department officials last week, Yediyurappa is said to have admitted that unlike those states where non-BJP parties are in power — they have threatened agitations and court cases — the government cannot go “against” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime.

Instead, Yediyurappa has urged senior IAS finance department officials to lobby for funds with their counterparts in New Delhi. On his part, Yediyurappa is said to have already written to Modi and finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman to at least release the state’s share of GST compensation for the current calendar year of 2019. He is planning to personally meet the PM in Delhi to push the state’s case.

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai.

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”
