Govt will examine RSS role in stoking Cauvery violence: Home Minister

Bengaluru, Sep 17: The state government will examine if the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) had any role in stoking violence over the Cauvery issue in Bengaluru on September 12.

Speaking to reporters after presiding over the KPCC office-bearers meeting on Friday, Home Minister G Parameshwara said that during the meeting, a KPCC member wondered if the RSS had any role in instigating violence in the city.

He said the police had explored all angles during investigations and had no such suspicions on the RSS' role. However, his department would again look into the matter, he added. In his reaction, RSS Kshetreeya Sanghachalak V Nagaraj said that Parameshwara had the “malicious habit” of making immature charges against the RSS.

Meanwhile, BJP?state general?secretary and MLA?C?T?Ravi in a press note dubbed Parameshwara's statement as “irresponsible” and “politically motivated.” He made a counter-charge that violence in Bengaluru on Monday was stage-managed by Parameshwara with an intention to unseat Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Ravi charged that Parameshwara suspects Siddaramaiah's hand in his defeat from the Koratagere constituency in Tumakuru district in the 2013 Assembly elections and was keen on seeking revenge.

On Cauvery

Parameshwara said Karnataka would be “doomed” if the Supreme Court orders release of the Cauvery water to Tamil?Nadu beyond September 20. “If such a verdict is given, then I guess we will have no choice other than asking people of Bengaluru to go and settle down in Tamil Nadu,” he observed. He said Karnataka would impress upon the apex court on evolving a distress mechanism.

I am sure that sangh parivar is involved in the rioting in Bangalore just to bring black dot to Sidhu Govt. They are the killers of Gandhiji who sacrificed his life for the freedom of India. What else we can expect from these unhuman, illogical, pro devil, terrorists organisations and their supporters. Its shame that Karnataka govt is soft for these terrorists.

Bengaluru, May 16: The Karnataka government is expected to take a call on Monday on holding the Secondary Level School Certificate (SSLC) or class 10 examination, which were postponed due to COVID-19 lockdown.

Minister for Primary and Secondary Education S Suresh Kumar said there was a possibility that the state government may come out with a timetable on Monday. "We are holding a meeting regarding the SSLC examination," he told reporters here.

He also said there would be discussions on how to conduct the exams and precautionary measures to be taken in view of COVID-19.

"We have to make arrangements for masks, sanitisers and thermal scanners. We will set up a thermal scanner for a health check-up. We have to make separate seating arrangements for those having health issues. All these issues will be discussed on Monday," Kumar said.

The SSLC exams were supposed to commence from May 27 but due to the lockdown, it was postponed for an indefinite period.

Bengaluru, Aug 4: Janata Dal (Secular) leader and MLA Satyanarayana passed away today due to multiple organ failure. He was 67.

Satyanarayana was representing Tumakuru’s Sira constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is survived by five daughters and one son.

It is learnt that he was suffering from multiple organ ailments from the past few days and was recently admitted to Manipal Hospital in the city. He breathed his last at 12:20 p.m.

He contested from JDS and worked three times as MLA and 2 times as MP. He was the chairman of KSRTC during the coalition government led by HD Kumaraswamy.

Former Prime Minister HD Devegowda mourned his death and said, “It is a shock to hear the demise of former minister and my close friend. We are friends from the past 3 decades and I cannot recall the days without him.”

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President DK Shivakumar said, “Satyanarayana was concerned for the farmers and he was a gentleman. Hearing the news hurts me and this is an irreparable loss to the political field.”

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers. 

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%). 

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.
