27 new cities including Mangaluru make it to Smart City list

Mangaluru, Sep 20: Mangaluru, Hubbali-Dharwad, Shivamogga and Tumkaru cites from south Indian state of Karnataka made it to the list of 27 Smart Cities that was announced on Tuesday.

1mangaluru PM Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, Vadodara, Agra, Nagpur, Ajmer, Amritsar, Gwalior, Thane and Thanjavur are some of the other cities that have been named to be developed as smart cities. The 27 cities will require investment of Rs 66,883 crore.

So far, the urban development ministry has selected 60 cities in three rounds and has covered 27 states and Union Territories. Only nine more states and UTs are still to get on board including Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir.

1smartcity A maximum of five cities from Maharashtra have found place in the list of new cities that was released by Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday. Four cities, each from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, have made it to the list followed by three from Uttar Pradesh and two each from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan. One city each from Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Sikkim and Nagaland has been selected in this round.

According to urban development ministry's estimate, Rs 1.44 lakh crore investment has been proposed by the 60 cities that have been selected so far under their smart city plans. Officials said that 82 projects are already under implementation in the first batch of 20 smart cities and another 113 projects will soon take off the ground. Naidu said in the next one year, one would get to see smart cities taking shape.

Under the Smart City mission, the Central government provides Rs 500 crore for each city over five years with states making matching contribution. The rest of resources will come from loans, public private partnership (PPP), convergence of various schemes of Central and state governments besides own resources of urban local bodies.

So the ministry has tied up multi-lateral lending from agencies DFID of UK and JICA, who have committed $ 500 million each. Similarly, ADB and World Bank have committed $ 1 billion. The New Development Bank (BRICS Bank) has proposed to provide finance for projects up to $ 500 million per city.

We need SAFE CITIES before SMART CITIES. Accordingly, we need SAFE MANGALORE before SMART MANGALORE.

Once, the people feel and realise that MANGALORE is SAFE, then definitely Smart projects can follow.

Just projecting Smart Mangalore without SAFETY cannot be justified.

As somebody said, we need smart Ministers and smart government authorities to maintain the SAFETY and WELFARE of the MANGALOREAN people

No need Smart cities , We need smart ministers who can take care of the problems of the society in a smarter way rather then fooling and lying to the society.

people of these so called smart cities will pay heavily in the form of tax. This govt is creating tax terrorism against common people and feeding the global tycoons.

I read many articles about smart cities and finally came to a conclusion that i cant understand it fully.

Six fishermen rescued in Gangolli coast

Udupi, Jan 17: Six fishermen were rescued by members of another fishing boat after their boat capsized off Gangolli coast in the District recently.

Police on Friday said that the fishing boat, belonging to Jayalakshmi of Kodi Kanyana, had set sail from Malpe towards Gangolli on the night of January 12. On Wednesday (Jan 15) the vessel’s hull got damaged and water began gushing in.

Withdraw sedition case against Shaheen; Why Kalladka School spared?: Siddaramaiah

Bidar, Feb 15: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah on Friday demanded the State government to withdraw the sedition case against a mother and a teacher of Shaheen school immediately.

“The police can’t execute anything without the government’s permission. The sedition case against two women should be withdrawn immediately. I will raise the matter in the Assembly to draw the government’s attention,” Siddaramaiah told reporters after meeting the woman at the prison here.

He clarified that he visited the woman not to support the school, but to extend moral support to her.

“I am an advocate and I can clearly establish based on my experience that staging a satirical play doesn’t amount for sedition. It doesn’t even defame anybody. Three cases of sedition have been registered across the state,” he charged.

He alleged that the government was following dual policy. Though the Supreme Court had concluded that the demolition of Babri Masjid was illegal, a play dealing with the demolition was staged at Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat’s school.
The sedition case had not been registered for staging the play.

He charged that there was an undeclared emergency in the country as the freedom of expression was being suppressed.

Mangaluru | Flight charted by KMT brings home 180 stranded NIRs from Dammam

Mangaluru / Dammam, July 14: As many as 180 NRIs from Karnataka who were stranded in Saudi Arabia amid Covid 19 crisis today reached their home country by a flight charted by a Jubail based company KMT.

The Indigo flight carrying 174 adult passengers and 6 infants took off from King Fahad Airport, Dammam at 6:30 a.m. and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 1:30 p.m.

Pregnant women, people with serious ailments and those who lost jobs are among the passengers. KMT has provided free ticket for some of the passengers who were in dire need of support.

KMT is a company which is head quartered in Jubail, Saudi Arabia was formed by natives of Addoor, Dakshin Kannada - Shoukath, Abdul Razaq, Siddique and Abdul Rahman.

The CEO of KMT, Mr. Abdul Razaq has thanked Dr. Arathi Krishna, former president of KNRI Forum for her support to KMT in chartering flight.

He has also has expressed his gratitude to D.K district administration, director of SACO company Mr. Althaf Ullal and KMT operation Manager Mr. Sadiq Ahmed and his team for their cooperation.
