DKSC celebrates 20th anniversary; clerics lay emphasis on education

Mangaluru, Sep 22: Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, a prominent Sunni cleric of coastal Karnataka and the Khazi of Udupi district has called upon the madrasa students not to ignore the material education.

Inaugurating the 20th anniversary of Dakshina Karnataka Sunni Centre (DKSC), Ibrahim Musliyar said that one should acquire material education along with religious education.

He said that DKSC was formed two decades ago by a group of visionary scholars and leaders with an intention to give more priority to education of Muslim children. “It has been moving on the right direction and achieved its cause,” he said.

Delivering the keynote address Abdul Azeez Darimi, Khatheeb of Chokkabettu mosque, exhorted the people to take care of the health' of the society.

Communal hatred is one of the dangerous diseases of the society. It is our responsibility to eradicate such diseases through spreading knowledge,' he said.

Abdul Rasheed Zaini, general secretary, Markazul Huda Kumbra, presented the message of DKSC.

Awards

On the same occasion former education minister and Beary stalwart B A Mohideen was conferred with the DKSC lifetime achievement award.

DKSC goodwill awards were conferred on educationist Dr M Mohan Alva, industrialist Abdul Rawoof Puthige and UC Poulos for the relentless efforts to spread communal harmony.

Sewing machines

B Ramanath Rai, the district in charge minister for Dakshina Kannada, who was one of the chief guests, distributed sewing machines to 20 odd women on behalf of DKSC.

On the same occasion 20 educational institutions were awarded and 20 clerics who served for over 20 years in any one mosque were felicitated.

Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar, Khazi of Dakshina Kannada offered dua. Syed Atakoya Thangal Kumbol, presided over the event. Mumtaz Ali, reception committee president, welcomed. UD Abdul Hameed, DKSC working president proposed vote of thanks.

UT Khader, Y Mohammed Kunhi, SM Rasheed Haji, Zakariya Jokatte, Ibrahim Kodichal were present among others.

DKSC is a mammoth Organisation in GCC countries Sand I really salute them for arranging a much awaited program having all sections of SUNNIS associated together in SINGLE dias. This can be achieved only by DKSC. 5 points program they released during the inaugural function was very superb. Keep it up.

Bengaluru, Jun 27: Marijuana or ganja as it is known locally, has emerged as the most peddled and seized drug in Karnataka in the first six months of 2020, a police officer has said, commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

"As many as 510 ganja cases have been registered, leading to the seizure of 312 kg of ganja in 2020," Central Crime Branch (CCB) Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Jain told media perrsons on Friday.

Cases and seizures of other drugs paled in comparison to Marijuana. Only one case each has been registered on Brown Sugar, Opium and other drug forms.

Hashish was the only other seized narcotic which weighed more than a kg at 17 kg, rest all were under a kg.

Other banned substances included charas, cocaine and MDMA.

Police also seized 91 papers of LSD and 550 tablets belonging to the Yaba, Restyl, Anxit and Nitrosun category of drugs.

Similarly, 781 Indians and 14 foreigners have been arrested in the drugs cases.

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Director General of Police Praveen Sood and Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao were among the officials who commemorated the event which recognised police staff who cracked drug cases.

"Bommai reaffirmed the pledge to fight against drugs and continue the policy of zero tolerance (of drug abuse)," Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said.

Police showcased the seized haul of drugs to Bommai in the past one year, and the minister later rewarded the policemen involved in cracking the drugs cases in Karnataka.

Bommai and the police officials took a pledge to fight drugs on the occasion.

"The Karnataka police has been taking strict action against the drug peddlers while at the same time creating awareness among youth," added JCP Sandeep Patil.

Police also roped in celebrities such as Milana Nagaraj, Darling Krishna and former cricketer Anil Kumble to send across a social message to give up drugs.

Hassan, Mar 14: Karnataka Health Department officials took help of the Police to get a man, who returned from pilgrimage to Mecca (Saudi Arabia), admitted to hospital as he refused to undergo clinical tests for suspected Coronavirus, official sources said on Saturday.

According to the sources, a family from Arkalgud taluk, who was on a pilgrimage to Mecca and Madina, returned on March 5 and the woman from the family developed fever and symptoms of flu.

On Friday evening, in view of the Coronavirus scare, a team of Health Department officials visited their house and directed them to get admitted to a hospital in Hassan for treatment.

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday held a meeting with opposition parties at his office here over COVID-19 situation in the state.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leaders SR Patil and DK Shivakumar participated in the meeting. From Janata Dal (Secular), former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and HD Revanna were present.

"Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar have arranged the Chief Minister to request the central government to announce a special package of Rs 50,000 crore to Karnataka to fight coronavirus and also special packages requested for small and medium scale industries," said Siddaramaiah's media secretary.

Meanwhile, Yediyurappa has announced a special package for those involved in leather works, especially those who work on the roadside.

The special package has been announced for cobblers and leather workers, who work on the roadside.
