Mumbai wealthiest city in India with total wealth of $820 bn; Bengaluru third

New Delhi, Sep 29: India's financial capital Mumbai, home to 45,000 millionaires and 28 billionaires, is the wealthiest city in the country with total wealth of USD 820 billion, says a report.

mumbvaiAccording to New World Wealth, Mumbai is followed by Delhi and Bengaluru at the second and third place respectively.

While Delhi, home to 22,000 millionaires and 18 billionaires has total wealth of USD 450 billion, Bengaluru boasts of a total wealth of USD 320 billion. The city is home to 7,500 millionaires and 8 billionaires. Total wealth refers to the private wealth held by all individuals.

The report defines 'wealth' as the net assets of a person. It includes all their assets (property, cash, equity, business interests) less any liabilities. The report excludes government funds from its figures.

As per the report, the total wealth held in the country amounts to USD 5.6 trillion (as of June 2016). The country is home to 264,000 millionaires and 95 billionaires in total.

Other emerging cities in the country include, Surat, Ahmadabad, Visakhapatnam, Goa, Chandigarh, Jaipur and Vadodara, the report said.

It noted that over the next decade, India is expected to benefit from strong growth in local financial services, IT, real estate, healthcare and media sectors.

"In particular, the local hospital services and health insurance sectors are expected to grow strongly. Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru are expected to lead the pack in terms of wealth growth," it said.

Millionaires or high net worth individuals (HNWIs) refer to individuals with net assets of USD 1 million or more. Billionaires refer to individuals with net assets of USD 1 billion or more.

Other wealthiest cities include, Hyderabad (total wealth of USD 310 billion, has 8,200 millionaires, 7 billionaires); Kolkata (USD 290 billion, has 8,600 millionaires and 10 billionaires); Pune (USD 180 billion, has 3,900 millionaires and 5 billionaires); Chennai (USD 150 billion and has 6,200 millionaires and 4 billionaires) and Gurgaon (USD 110 billion and home to 3,600 millionaires and 2 billionaires).

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited in a statement announced that their milk collection centres across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be closed on March 29 and 30.

Due to a shortage of storage space with them, the Union has decided to stop collecting milk on these two days, according to the statement issued here on Saturday.

The sale/retail of milk and milk products won’t be affected in these two days.

Bengaluru, Mar 11: DK Shivakumar has been appointed as the new president of the party's Karnataka unit, an official said on Wednesday.

"Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) has appointed D.K. Shivakumar as the president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC)," said party's general secretary K.C. Venugopal in a statement from New Delhi.

Party's state unit leaders Eshwar Khandre, Satish Jharkiholi and Saleem Ahammed are the working presidents in the southern state.

"Former chief minister Siddaramaiah will continue as the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and opposition leader in the state legislative assembly.

MLC M. Narayanswamy and MLA Ajay Singh will be the party's chief whips in the state legislative council and assembly.

Congress appoints Anil Chaudhary as DPCC chief

The Congress on Wednesday appointed former MLA Anil Chaudhary as its Delhi unit chief, while also naming five vice-presidents for the DPCC.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi named Chaudhary president and Abhishek Dutt, Shivani Chopra, Jaikishan, Mudit Agarwal and Ali Hassan vice-presidents of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), a party statement said.

Subhash Chopra had resigned as the Delhi Congress chief in February, taking moral responsibility for the party's debacle in the Assembly polls.

The Congress drew a blank for the second time in a row in the Delhi Assembly polls and reduced its vote share from 9.7 per cent in 2015 to 4.27 per cent this time.

Bengaluru, Mar 1: Bengaluru Police has rescued six women and arrested two people after a raid on a spa, allegedly operating illegally, in the city's HSR layout area.

"Of the women rescued three are from Thailand and the other three are from North-Eastern states," said a statement from the Central Crime Branch's (CCB) Women Protection Wing.

The raid was carried out on Saturday night and the police have arrested two people, while the owner of the spa is absconding.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Peter Sunawar and Rajkumar Radhakrishna Mishra. Further investigation is underway in the case.
