Noida, Oct 5: One of the 15 accused jailed for Dadri beef lynching case, wherein Mohammad Akhlaq was bludgeoned to death in September last year, died of fever at a hospital in Delhi.

debriJail officials said it was likely that Ravin, a 22-year-old Bisada resident, was suffering from dengue or chikungunya. But the youth's mother and Hindutva groups in his village blamed police for his death, accusing them of negligence.

Ravin, who was arrested on December 21 last year, had been down with fever for four days in Greater Noida's Luksar jail. When his condition deteriorated on Tuesday morning, he was taken to the district hospital in Noida and from there referred to Delhi's LNJP Hospital, where he died around 6pm due to kidney and respiratory failure, doctors said.

"When Ravin had fever for several days, why was he taken to hospital when the situation became critical?" asked Nirmala, his mother. "My son died. He had committed no crime. I want justice." Ravin is survived by his wife and a six-month-old daughter.

District magistrate N P Singh said he had sought a report from the jail superintendent. "This is a very sad incident and we are looking into it. We have formed a committee to examine the matter," he said.

Dr J C Passey, medical superintendent of LNJP Hospital, said, "The patient was rushed to our hospital at 12 pm in critical condition. He had acute fever and kidney dysfunction. Despite our best efforts, he died within a few hours." He said blood samples of Ravin had been sent for dengue and chikungunya tests. "Until the reports come, we cannot comment on the cause of death. He died due to kidney and respiratory failure," Passey said.

Dharmendra Singh, the Gautam Budh Nagar police chief, said, "We received information the accused was suffering from a suspected case of dengue and died in the evening. We are looking into the issue." Luksar jail superintendent M L Yadav did not respond to repeated calls and messages asking for his response.

Ravin, a Class X pass out, worked as a driver when he was arrested in connection with the murder of Akhlaq and the attack on his younger son Danish. He was one of the 18 accused in the charge sheet filed by police in the case but was not among the first few to be arrested in the days after the murder of Akhlaq on September 28 last year.

Following the news of his death, a group of men gathered at the village temple in Bisada and protested. Police rushed personnel to Bisada to keep the situation under control.

Meanwhile, mothers of 13 of the accused have been on an indefinite hunger strike in Bisara since Saturday. A few hours before news of Ravin's death reached Bisara, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Amit Kumar, along with officers from Jharcha police station, met the protesters.

“I am requesting you with folded hands, please release our innocent children and arrest Jaan Mohammad (Akhlaq's brother),” said Lilavati, a local. Akhlaq had been beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of cow slaughter and beef consumption. After his death, an FIR had been registered against him, and six other members of his family, including Jaan Mohammad.

“The hunger strike will continue for two more days… We are giving you (police) two days to arrest Jaan Mohammad. On the third day, if he is still free, we will do what we want. The investigation has been going on for the last three months. Why was there no investigation before our sons were put behind bars?” said Hari Om, a local Hindutva activist.

New Delhi, Jul 27: A month after banning 59 Chinese applications, the government of Indian has now reportedly banned 47 more apps of Chinese origin in the country. According to sources, the 47 banned Chinese apps were operating as clones of the earlier banned apps.

The list of the 47 Chinese applications banned by the Indian government will be released soon.

India has also prepared a list of over 250 Chinese apps, including apps linked to Alibaba, that it will examine for any user privacy or national security violations, government sources said. The list also includes Tencent-backed gaming app PUBG.

Some top gaming Chinese applications are also expected to be banned in the new list that is being drawn up, sources said. The Chinese applications, that are being reviewed, have allegedly been sharing data with the Chinese agencies.

Today's decision follows after a high-profile ban of 59 Chinese apps including TikTok, as border tensions continued in Ladakh after a violent, fatal face-off between the Indian and Chinese armies. The government said these apps were engaged in activities that were prejudicial to the sovereignty, integrity and defence of India.

A government press release announcing the ban stated: "The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it's power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order".

A day later, Google said it has removed all the banned applications from the Play Store. Following the ban, TikTok refuted the claims that suggest it will pursue legal action against the Indian government for banning the app in India.

Reacting to the 59 apps banned by India, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said the country is "strongly concerned regarding the decision of the Indian government".

“China is strongly concerned, verifying the situation,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

"We want to stress that the Chinese government always asks Chinese businesses to abide by international and local laws-regulations. The Indian government has a responsibility to uphold the legal rights of international investors including Chinese ones," Zhao Lijian said.

Bengaluru, Jan 2: Former chief ministers of Karnataka Siddaramaiah and H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he embarked on a two-day visit to the state attend events in Tumakuru and Bengaluru. In a series of tweets, the Congress and the JD(S) leaders took a dig at Modi for his alleged failure on various fronts.

"You did not visit Karnataka when it was devastated by floods, you did not visit Karnataka when our farmers cried for help, but all of a sudden, when you want to launch your political propaganda, you remember the innocent people of Karnataka. Wah Modi Wah!!" Siddaramaiah tweeted.

In another tweet, the Congress leader claimed Karnataka is starved of Central government funds as there were no adequate flood relief, no GST revenue loss compensation and there was a delay in the transfer of grant-in-aid.

He further said, "Before attempting to fool our people, let the people of Karnataka know when they will get their due share!" He also sought to know from Modi why the 25 MPs from Karnataka have 'turned off' their engines.

"With 25 MPs from BJP and a state government with BJP, people hoped for a double engine. Instead, all BJP representatives have turned off their engines and have become sycophants to play a tune to your idiosyncrasies. Why, are they scared of you?" Siddaramaiah said.

Seeking an explanation on various incomplete projects, the Congress leader said, "Mr Narendra Modi, people are fed up of your lies and double-edged sword comments. We want your answer today about long-standing questions on: Kalasa Banduri Yojana, Belagavi border issue, exams in Kannada, Tulu & Kodava in 8th schedule, the list goes on." Kumaraswamy too minced no words as he went on the offensive against the Centre.

In his tweets quoting newspaper reports, he said Karnataka's coffer has dried up, financial position is in doldrums and the revenue has plummeted.

"What's the reason (behind poor economic situation)? The poor economic policies of the Centre. After swallowing the GDP and development of the country, the wrong policies have affected the state too," alleged Kumaraswamy.

Quoting reports, Kumaraswamy said the Centre has denied the state's share of revenue.

"About 5.44 per cent of state's share is yet to come from the Centre. This is step-motherly attitude of the Centre towards the state," Kumaraswamy tweeted.
