Dadri, Oct 7: The Hindutva activists and family members of one of the accused in Dadri lynching, who died of fever earlier this week, have refused to cremate the dead body unless the Uttar Pradesh government pays Rs 1 crore as compensation, recommends a CBI probe into his death and fulfils other demands.

Less than a kilometre from where Mohammad Akhlaq was lynched last year over beef allegation, hundreds of Bisara residents gathered on Thursday around a deep-freezer casket draped with the Tricolour. The casket contained the body of 21-year-old Ravin Sisodia, an accused in Akhlaq's killing, who died at LNJP Hospital in Delhi Tuesday evening.

Sisodia's family members have also demanded the state government to take action against officers at a Greater Noida jail, where the notorious murder accused had been lodged, and to arrest Akhlaq's brother, Jaan Mohammad, on charges of “cow slaughter.”

The district police, meanwhile, turned the village into a veritable fortress with VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi visiting Bisara on Thursday to express her solidarity with Sisodia's family. Two companies of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed, and extra security forces from Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahr and Ghaziabad brought in.

By Thursday evening, talks between the administration and a 11-member committee of Bisara residents, including family members of Ravin, hit a roadblock on two issues — the arrest of Mohammad and compensation for Ravin's family.

While village residents maintained that a meeting of residents from nearby villages will be called on Friday morning, the local administration maintained that efforts to negotiate with Bisara residents and Ravin's father would continue.

“They have said that the body will not be cremated if Mohammad is not arrested. They also did not agree to accept the Rs 10 lakh that was being offered by the state government as compensation and demanded Rs 1 crore. We are trying to reach out to Ravin's family. For now, they have refused to cremate him,” said a senior police officer.

“If our demands are not met, the cremation will not take place. The administration has given us some assurances but we are not satisfied. Our main aim is Mohammad's arrest and unless that happens, we will not cremate the body,” said Hari Om, the husband of Bisara pradhan Kaushalya Devi.

Earlier, addressing the residents, Sadhvi Prachi said, “All those in the government have deep love for topiwallahs…these people exploit you. Teach them a lesson.” Asking “Hindus” to unite, and referring to the Muzaffarnagar riots, Prachi said, “Dadri ko Uttar Pradesh sarkar Muzaffarnagar kand na banaye (The UP government should not turn Dadri into a Muzaffarnagar-like incident).”

Gautam Budh Nagar police said they would initiate action against Prachi for making inflammatory statements. Dharmendra Singh, SSP, said, “We are recording the events on video. If any person gives provocative speeches and tries to disturb peace there, strict legal action will be taken. But since a dead body has been kept there and a lot of people are visiting to console the family and friends, we are allowing people to enter the village.”

On September 28 last year, a Hindutva mob attacked 50-year-old Akhlaq, dragging him outside his house and beating him to death while his younger son 22-year-old Mohammad Danish received severe head injuries, according to police.

The mob assembled outside Akhlaq's house minutes after an announcement in the village which asked residents to assemble since a cow had allegedly been slaughtered in the village, police had said.

He is a true Indian and he needs Military honour. He should be recommended for Bharat Ratna for his sacrifice for the nation. He has sacrificed his life for BJP and nation. Idol of this person should be made and erected besides Godse as both belong to same group with same ideology.

Mangaluru, May 8: After continuous pressure on Union government from Karnataka NRI Forum- UAE, the first special flight carrying 180 Kannadigas who stranded at UAE due to Covid-19 pandemic will fly from Dubai to Mangaluru on May 14.

The special flight will take off from Dubai at 4.10 p.m. UAE time to reach Mangaluru at 9.10 pm IST on May 14. Earlier it was reported that the flight will operate on May 12. However, sources of Mangaluru International Airport and Air India today confirmed that first flight will be on May 14.

The state government has directed Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts authority to quarantine all passengers once they reach.

All Kannadigas will be given permission to travel back home only after they test negative in Covid test at Dubai airport.

In fact, Karnataka was missing in the list of states to receive special flights when Ministry of External Affairs arranged them to bring stranded Indians at UAE. Special flights were arranged only to Kerala and Tamil Nadu people stranded at UAE in the first stage.

Thanks to Karnataka NRI Forum of UAE which opened helpline (https://uaekannadahelpline.club) to seek assistance to Kannadigas, nearly 2000 Kannadigas have registered for assistance in which 127 pregnant women, 27 senior citizens, 700 people who have lost jobs aftermath of coronavirus sought assistance from NRI forum.

After providing food and shelter to Kannadigas who lost jobs at UAE since March 2020, NRI forum put pressure on both state and Centre to arrange special flights to send them to home.

The NRI Forum has approached Indian Consulate at UAE and chief minister BS Yediyurappa to evacuate Kannadigas, but got no response. Following this, Karnataka NRI Forum President Praveen Shetty approached Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers DV Sadananda Gowda for help. Gowda immediately responded the call and he spoke to MEE to arrange special flight for Kannadigas as well.

Indian government has promised to arrange special flight to Mangaluru or Bengaluru by next week to bring Kannadigas.

Comparing to other Indian States, Karnataka has the highest number of its people working in UAE. Around 1.25 lakhs Kannadigas are working in UAE in which majority are working classes. Due to Covid-19 pandemic thousands of workers have lost jobs, Mr. Shetty explained.

"Indian government had arranged special flights from US, UK, Singapur and other countries to bring back Indians, but excluded UAE in the list. Actually, lakhs of Indians are working in UAE as labourers and in odd jobs, the government should have given first priority to bring labourers rather rich one", he opined.

"BJP has 27 MPs from Karnataka. We continuously requested all BJP MPs and state government but none of them came to our help. Thanks to Mr Gowda for his timely intervention to bring stranded Kannadigas", Mr Shetty said.

Vijayapura, June 18: Shoukat Ali Sumbad, a local farmer, has donated land for the construction of Chennamma memorial, modelled on the Kittur fort, at Sindagi town in Vijayapura to celebrate the town's connect with the valorous Lingayat queen who fought the British in 1824.

Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji of Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha Kudala Sangam said Shoukat Ali came forward to donate his land adjacent to the state highway when local authorities failed to provide land for the memorial.

"The committee led by Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji sought a 15x10 plot but when I went through their plan of constructing a model of Kittur fort, I decided to donate 425 sq ft," said the 61-year-old farmer.

"Rani Chennamma is the pride of every Indian, irrespective of caste and creed, and my contribution is nothing compared to her sacrifice for the nation," he added.

Shoukat Ali, who lives in the neighbouring town of Almel, said he is a man of modest means but proud to make the contribution. "I own nine acres of land in Almel. I have six sons and two daughters. Two of my sons run small businesses in Mumbai. Ten of us live in a small house in Almel," he said.

“I also work as a broker to sell or buy sites. I had bought 15 guntas of land in Sindagi for my children some 15 years ago. When our MLA MC Managuli and Swamiji sought land for the memorial, my entire family agreed wholeheartedly” Shoukat Ali said.

“As Chennamma’s history is linked to Sindagi, there has been a demand for a memorial here since 2008, but the town municipal council failed to provide land due to political and technical reasons,” said Swamiji.

“There were plans to observe a Sindagi bandh in the first week of June to protest the indifference of authorities. But then Sumbad gave us his land. We have formed a committee to construct a model of Kittur fort and a bronze statue of Chennamma at a cost of Rs 28 lakh,” he added.
