This NRI business tycoon in Dubai buys number plate for Rs 60 crore!

October 9, 2016

Dubai, Oct 9: Balwinder Sahani, an Indian business tycoon in Dubai bought the most coveted number plate D5 for Dh33 million (around Rs 60 crore) at the Roads and Transport Authority's number plate auction on Saturday.

Balwinder-SahaniSahani, also known as Abu Sabah, is the owner of RSG International, a property management company, with interests in the UAE, Kuwait, India and the United States.

"I like collecting unique number plates and I am proud to have got this number. I like number nine and D5 adds up to nine, so I went for it," said Sahani.

He said that last year he bought the number O9 for Dh25m.

"I have collected 10 number plates so far and I am looking forward to having more. It's a passion. This number will go to one of my Rolls Royces," he added.

The number generated great interest among the participants with the bid starting at Dh20 million.

The spectators seemed to have enjoyed every bit of the tense battle, cheering every move of the bidders.

More than 300 bidders participated at the live auction which takes place every two months, witnessing fierce battle between bidders for some numbers.

80 unique numbers were on offer on Saturday ranging from one two five digits.

"This is easily the biggest auction we have seen so far. The hall is packed with participants as well as those who have come to learn the trade and enjoy," said, Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, CEO of RTA's Licensing Agency.

He said that the number D5 has been the biggest draw in the RTA's auction history, with many VIPs participating.

"We usually have a lot of plate traders participating. Plate trading is big a business and a lot of people are making good money out of it. We also organise special auctions for traders and issue permits for plate trading," he said.

Apart from live auctions, RTA organises online plate auctions every month.

RTA also sells distinguished number plates for fixed prices and he said that the auctions help set the price.

He said, apart from helping people make money, auctions help generate revenue for RTA's never ending infrastructure projects.

The other number plate that attracted big money was Q77 which was bought by an Emirati bidder for Dh4.52 million.

A few other numbers bagged more than a million including P27 that went for Dh2.14m and R7777 went for 1.17m.

In June this year, Emirati businessman Arif Al Zarooni, bought Number 1 plate for Dh18 million in Sharjah.

In 2008, another Emirati businessman Saeed Al Khouri payed Dh52.2m for Number 1 licence plate in Abu Dhabi, which so far holds the record for the costliest number plate in the UAE.

Dear Kairali, nothing to be shocked. this is what happening in the world. There is saying \har badi machli choti machli ko khati hai\". None can be so rich one of a sudden withut cheating. this person is avoiding benefits for his own emplohyees and busy in gathering money which he will take to his grave after death or might ask to burn it along with his body. You will find very few people who have become rich honestly. Most of the rich people are cheater / decoits. The recent and famous example is Devil Mallya. this person has cheated indians by billions of dollars and enjoying lavish life in UK. No need to say that he managed to escape to UK with help from the govt officials. Though he is telling that he will come back to india, i am sure he will never. Dear Kairali, please dont be frustrated. None is going to live here for ever. Everyl living thing has to taste death/end. History has seen rich people thousabnd time bigger that Mallya / Ambani / Sahani. but they left the world with their hands spreaded. Nepolian, the great warrior, had advised his people to take his dead body in procession with his hands uncovered to show that he was leavign the world with empty hands. God is great. Have trust in him. Money is not everything. God bless you with right way of thinking."

Udupi, Jan 30: Fishermen in Udupi’s Malpe have netted ‘spanner crab’, a rare variety of deep sea crab, mostly found in Australia and Hawaiian coast.

Hundreds of onlookers were surprised to the see the catch when it was brought to Malpe harbour by the fisherman Prashanth Kunder and others on Tuesday evening.

Dr Shivakumar Haragi, Assistant Professor at Karnatak University, PG Centre Department of Marine Biology, Karwar identified this crab variety as ‘spanner crab’ and the scientific name of this crab is Ranina Ranina.

Ranina Ranina is mainly nocturnal as it remains active during night and is found buried in sand during the day .It is easily distinguished from other crab species in its habitat due to its red carapace and elongated midsection.

Resembling a frog in its shape, this crab species is found mainly in Africa, Hawaiian coast and also in the Great Barrier Reef, located in the Coral Sea, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. Its lifetime is seven to nine years and each crab weighs around 400-900 grams.

Prashanth Kunder and his associates have also netted a rare fish variety called yellow-edged lyretail. Another unique variety fish netted by Prashanth is epinephelus flavocaeruleus.

Tumakuru, Jan 8: RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat stoked controversy on Wednesday by stating that 'Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is full of traitors'.

He was addressing the media after taking part in a pro-CAA rally organised by National Citizens Forum near the office of the deputy commissioner of the district here.

Bhat said, “JNU is full of traitors. Congress and communist parties have been generating anti-nationals there. But there is no need to close the university down. Modi government will handle it.”

“Nationalism should be infused among the students there through love and trust. They should be made to realize what the truth is,” he said.

Bengaluru, Mar 11: The move by rebel ruling Congress MLAs in Madhya Pradesh to trigger the crisis for the party's government in the state appears to have been in the making for at least close to a month as Karnataka BJP leaders were sounded about hosting them in Bengaluru in advance, sources said.

They also indicated that the 19 rebel MLAs would stay in the city for at least two weeks till an alternative government takes charge in Madhya Pradesh.

A senior Karnataka BJP leader, in charge of the Madhya Pradesh legislators' stay in Bengaluru, received a communication from the party's central leaders about the move nearly 15-20 days ago, the sources involved in the development said on condition of anonymity on Tuesday.

The leader had even gone to New Delhi in the third week of February to meet BJP's central leaders in this regard, they said.

In a massive setback for the Congress, its prominent youth leader Jyotiradtya Scindia quit the party and in a coordinated rebellion on Tuesday 21 MLAs loyal to him resigned in Madhya Pradesh, pushing the 15-month-old Kamal Nath government to the brink of collapse.

As many as 19 Madhya Pradesh MLAs, including six ministers, said to be loyalists of Mr Scindia who appeared set to join BJP, are camping at a resort in Bengaluru. Two of them are women, the sources said.

The MLAs on Tuesday sent their resignation letters via e-mail to Raj Bhavan in Bhopal from Bengaluru.

According to the sources, eight legislators, including an independent, have been staying in the city for about a week now. Of them two - one from Congress and the other an independent MLA - had gone back.

The six were joined by 13 legislators, who landed in the city by a chartered flight on Monday, and all of them are put up in a villa.

The senior Karnataka BJP leader, also an MLA, is looking after their stay and related arrangements on the directions of the party high command, the sources said. Their stay here may be for a couple of weeks.

"There will be a no-confidence motion, and then there will be a trust vote of the new alternative government that will be formed. So they may have to stay here for some time. They may be moved out of their current location," they said.

The Madhya Pradesh legislature session is expected to begin on March 16.

The sources also said the six legislators staying in the city since last week were shifted a couple of times within the city.

Congress in Madhya Pradesh, under the leadership of Kamal Nath, had come to power in December 2018 by ousting the BJP by a narrow margin.
