Youth stabbed to death by girlfriend's brother during Ganesha immersion

Mandya, Oct 10: A youth was allegedlystabbed to death by hisgirlfriend's brother, who despised the love affair, in Haralahalli village of Pandavapura taluk during Ganesha idol immersion ceremony on Saturday.

stabbdPurushottam, 27, a private moneylender, was dancing with a group during the ceremony, when he was allegedly attacked by Varun and his friend Abhi. According to police, Varun had warned Purushottam to stay away from his sister, which the victim refused to do.

So Varun allegedly conspired with his friend Abhi to kill his sister's lover. Police stated that they stabbed Purushottam thrice on his chest and belly using a knife.

Though the victim was immediately taken to Pandavapura government hospital, he died while being shifted from there to Mysuru KR Hospital.

Police arrested the duo as they were trying to abscond. A case has been registered at Pandavapura police station.

Tumakuru, Jul 7: Coronavirus is spreading at the community level in Karnataka, said minister, JC Madhuswamy on Monday.

"Medical condition of eight infected with coronavirus admitted in Tumkur COVID Hospital is critical. There is no guarantee of their lives as per the information. We somewhere feel we are worried that coronavirus is spreading at the community level," Madhuswamy, Tumakuru district-in-charge minister, told reporters here.

"We have reached a point where it is difficult for the district authorities to restrain it, even though we are trying to restrain it. Somewhere the situation is going out of hand," he said.

The minister confirmed that the cumulative toll in the district due to COVID-19 rises to 9.

Earlier, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Deputy CM Ashwath Narayan, Medical Education Minister Dr Sudhakar have denied of community transmission of coronavirus in Karnataka.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 23,474 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 13,255 and 372 deaths.

Mangaluru, Jul 11: Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has set up an expert committee to look into the cause of deaths of covid patients in Dakshina Kannada.

The development comes after eight more fatalities including that of a CISF personnel attached to MRPL, were reported in the district on Friday.

The district has recorded 23 deaths since July 1 and 38 death cases have been reported in the district since April 19.

Of the 38 deaths, five were from outside the district. All the eight patients, who lost their battle to the virus in the district on Friday, were suffering from co-morbidities.

According to the govt bulletin on Covid-19 cases, comorbid conditions, like kidney failure, brain tumour, TB, pneumonia, liver damage, high BP, diabetes and others, were the main reasons behind the Covid-19 deaths reported in the district.

Mangaluru, May 17: With the detection of two more covid-19 positive cases in Mangaluru, the total number of cases in Dakshina Kannada today mounted to 52.

A 35-year-old woman who was under quarantine along with her husband after returning from Maharashtra today tested positive for the coronavirus. 

A 31-year-old man also tested positive for covid-19.  More details to follow.
