Black-clad mourners took to the streets in cities like Hubballi, Dharwad, Kalaburgi, Belagavi and in some areas of Bengaluru to take part in the ceremonies of Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar month of Muharram.

During the ceremonies, eulogies are recited and sermons delivered in honour of one of the sacred figures of Shia Islam and his 72 companions.

The procession by the Shias from the Allah Khane Zahira Irani Masjid in Kalaburagi stole the limelight with youths in the procession performing self-flagellation with sharp instruments as part of the ritual called maatam. The procession that began from the Masjid in Tarfail, culminated near the Gulbarga railway station.

Religious heads also delivered lectures on the relevance of observing the rituals and martyrdom of the Karbala brave-hearts.

In Bidar, members of the Irani community took out a procession through the main streets of the town. Several non Muslim households attended prayers at Ashur Khanas and street corners where Moula Ali mannequins were placed.

In some places a large number of Hindus also took part in the processions of panjas'. Some Sunni Muslims also visited dargahs. However, majority of Muslims (non-Shia) in Karnataka observed fast on 9th and 10th of Muharram following the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad.

People are shedding the blood and the women are taking photos of the same. Really pathetic. What happened to their intellect? The non-Muslims thinks that this is part of Islam, and if this is the way people does, then they never want to come closer to Islam.

Really stupid. Is there any leader among them who can teach them about this evil practices? Why only martyrdom of grandsons of Prophet (pbuh), why not martyrdom of so many sahabas (p.b.u.t)???
Of course we have to mourn on the death of sahabas (p.b.u.t) but not this way, neither the sahabas (p.b.u.t) never did this way when their compatriot passed away, neither Prophet (p.bu.h) advised to do this way. Then where did these people get the idea of observing martyrdom in this way that we cannot find in the teachings of Islam? Obviously from other religions, may be from Judaism? Really shiaism is a black dot on the face of Islam.

Prophet Muhammad pbuh said to fast on these days. it is better in the sight of ALLAH. and he never mentioned to harm ourselves as the shia do now a days.
Those do worship as per their desires and not keeping the word of Prophet Muhammad pbuh are a deviant sect.

Muslims believe in all prophets including Moses pbuh...
This day is the day when Moses defeated the mightiest army of his time with the miracle of ALLAH. the parting of the sea.

It is the better for a true muslims to FAST rather than following their own desire in worshiping the man made rituals.

Mar 11: Two activists of Sangh Parivar have been arrested by the police in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore for hurling a petrol bomb at a mosque in Ganapathy on March 5.

The miscreants had hurled petrol bombs at the front gate of Hidayathul Sunnath Jamath Mosque at Vedhambal Nagar near Ganapathy in Coimbatore around 1 am on March 5. Since the bomb did not explode, nobody was injured in the incident.

Following a complaint from the Secretary of the Jama’ath, the police had formed three separate teams to nab the miscreants.

Based on tip-offs, the police detained BJP member Pandi (41) and VHP member Akhil (23), both from Rathnapuri in Coimbatore for inquiry.  The duo has also been remanded to judicial custody.

According to a statement by the Coimbatore police, the accused told the police that they hurled petrol bomb at the mosque to protest against the attack against Anand, a Hindu Munnani functionary a few days ago. The accused also reportedly told the police that they were planning to create more chaos.

Madukkarai Anand, the District Secretary of Hindu Munnani was attacked on March 4, while he was returning home after participating in a pro-CAA dharna organised by the BJP and allied parties in Gandhipuram.

He was allegedly followed by men on two motorbikes, who attacked him with rods. Anand suffered head injuries in the attack and was admitted to a hospital. The Podanur police registered a case for attempt to murder based on a complaint and had also formed special teams to nab the accused. However, no one has been apprehended in that case till now.

Based on the statements given by the accused, the police arrested the two men, seized the two-wheeler they used, two cell phones and the things they used to manufacture the petrol bomb.

Mangaluru, Mar 21: Taking strict measures to contain the spreading of COVID-19, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, who is also District Magistrate, ordered sealing of road connectivity leading to Kerala State for all kinds of traffic from March 21 to midnight of March 31.

No vehicles will be allowed to operate between Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod district in Kerala, the Deputy Commissioner said in a late-night order on Friday.

Ms. Rupesh said that in case of any emergency, vehicles will be allowed only through the Talapady check post on the National Highway 66, which is about 17 km away from Mangaluru city.

The Deputy Commissioner’s order came after the Kasaragod district reported six COVID-19 positive cases on Friday.

The order said that many vehicles operated between Kasaragod in Kerala and Mangaluru and hence, there is a need to take precautionary measures.

Private buses to not ply

Private bus operators in Dakshina Kannada will not operate their buses on March 22 to support the ‘Janata Curfew’ called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dilraj Alva, president, Dakshina Kananda Bus Operators’ Association, said in a release on Friday that people should remain in their homes on Sunday to help contain the community spreading of COVID-19. The decision has been taken in the interest of the public, he said.

Bengaluru, May 10: Former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday accused the state government of not preparing proper guidelines to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border areas.

"No proper guidelines have been given to officials to bring back people who are stranded near the Karnataka-Maharashtra border. From the last 45 days, many of these people have not got any relief nor are there any proper directions or guidelines from the state government," alleged Kumaraswamy.

He also accused the state government of cheating the people of Karnataka.

"Karnataka government is cheating people the same way it cheated with the flood compensation. The state government had announced lakhs of rupees as compensation to those who lost houses in the flood last year. But nobody has got the records or details as to how many people got benefited from it," he added.
Fifty-three more COVID-19 cases were reported in Karnataka on Sunday, the state government said.

The total number of cases in the state is at 847, including 405 discharged and 31 deaths so far, the bulletin said.
