Riyadh: A good number of Indian expatriates in Saudi Arabia took part in the 9th annual general body meeting of Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) held on last Friday afternoon (Oct 21) at Al Fakhra Istra in Riyadh.

The meeting started around 1:30 pm after a delicious lunch served to all the invitees/members. P.M.Bhaskar, the key man of KWAR with a bundle of talents welcomed the guests and welcomed the president Shri Rajesh Kumar, Vice-president Shri Santhosh Shetty, General secretary Shri Nelson Dsouza and Treasurer Shri Shashidhar Haridas to the dais. Mr P M Bhaskar surprised the key executive members of outgoing committee shared their experience and each member shared their love for KWAR which was well appreciated by the huge gathering.

Outgoing KWAR President Rajesh Kumar in his keynote address stressed the need for unity of KWAR and thanked all the office bearers, executive members, members and well-wishers who supported him during his reign as 7th & 8th president of KWAR. Further, he urged the committee members to utilize their spare time for service of the Association.

An illustrated presentation was followed by KWAR’s General Secretary Nelson Dsouza who briefed the audience about the KWAR programs, achievements and charity works during the period 2015-2016 which was well understood by the gathered crowd.

Mr. Shashidhar Haridas who had a great stint as treasurer of KWAR gave a brief on financial statements, which reflected all the positive financial aspects of KWAR as a successful organization. The specialty of Shashdhar Haridas’s presentation was that he addressed the crowd in one of the purest forms of our native Kannada which was well appreciated by the gathered.

Mr. Pervez Ali a keen, dedicated member and well-wisher of KWAR delivered a memorable speech in which he expressed his unconditional love for KWAR Organization and its motto and remembered the contributions made by the past presidents and urged the Members to bring in young and new members to the KWAR's fold. He stressed that KWAR is the only unique Organization in KSA, which gels people all religions under one Umbrella. Further, in his speech showered praises on outgoing President Mr. Rajesh Kumar’s dedication towards success of KWAR and wished the new President Mr. Santhosh Shetty a great success on his future endeavors.

The core issue of the day began with the outgoing president dissolving all the committees and sub-committees. A specially appointed election committee represented by Shri Jayaram Shetty(KANOO), Shri Jagannath Shetty and Shri Jagadish Alva (Carrier Saudi) were given the task of conducting the election procedure and to elect the new president, vice president and all the other important portfolios of KWAR executive committee.

The election commissioners gave each member a chance to represent himself and the overwhelming enthusiasm shown by members justified the elected member’s love for KWAR as well as upholding the unity of KWAR. Apparently, the election commissioners had the pleasure of announcing the unanimous election of President Shri Santhosh Shetty, Vice-president Shri Muzaffar Ali, Gen.Secretary Shri Shashidhar Haridas, Joint Secretary Shri Victor Manezes, Treasurer Shri Nelson D’souza and joint treasurer Shri Nazeer Ahmed, Shri Ramesh Shetty & Shri Rajesh Kumar were nominated as Advisors as well as other office bearers of KWAR team 2016-2017.

The unique background music played by host P.M Bhaskar while announcing the names of each and every elected member were very entertaining piece of the Grand evening. Program host Shri P.M.Bhaskar thanked all the 3 election commissioners and presented them with flower bouquets as a mark of respect from KWAR.

The Newly elected President Shri Santosh Shetty was felicitated by outgoing President Shri Rajesh Kumar. Shri Santhosh shetty, who is a well-known Organizer and Social worker promised to keep the Unity of KWAR at any cost with his dedication and Love for the Organization. In his speech the newly elected President has remembered & praised all the members who had contributed so far, especially the extraordinary efforts and contribution of Rajesh Kumar one of the founder member and main pillar in bringing this organization to the present high. The outgoing President Rajesh Kumar was felicitated by all the members and the Grand evening came to an end with the recitation of Jana Gana Mana, our revered national Anthem.

Riyadh: On the occasion of 71st Republic Day of India, Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh (KWAR) conducted BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN on the 17th Jan 2020 at KING SAUD Universities King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh. 

This is one of KWARs Prestigious Humanitarian EVENT every year, as we are indebted to serve the society for a Great Cause.

The campaign began at 08:30 am with a theme of Republic Day Celebrations and went on till 3:30 pm. Irrespective of Friday being a weekend and holiday people came in good numbers to donate Blood. The Hospital Staff, The Doctors and the Blood Bank Technicians and others at King Khalid University Hospital were more than happy to serve all those who have participated in this campaign.

KWAR Thanks all the Hospital Staff especially Mr. Salman Baqsh for his introduction of KWAR to Blood Bank and all the arrangements for this campaign, without his support this could not been done. Dr. Zafar Mahmoud for his wonderful support during the campaign and Mr. Abdullah Al Saman for his outstanding Hospitality throughout the campaign. KWAR also thanks all the donors who came all the way voluntarily for this Great Humanitarian Cause. As a token of gesture KWAR awarded Certificate of Appreciation to all the participants.

And KWAR would like to thank specially Mr. Nasir, Representative of Blood Helpline Karnataka, who encouraged many donors and made them to actively participate and donate blood for this noble cause.

KWAR’s core activities was on display on the screen, with most of the Committee members were present at the venue to serve the donors. KWAR thanks all the members, the Executive committee and all those who took their valuable time to organize this event successfully and thank all our well-wishers who supported us for the BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN. We in KWAR wish every Donor and the participants a healthy life ahead, and we need everyone's active participation in all our Future events.

Mangaluru, May 22: An elderly cardiac patient from Dakshina Kannada, who was stranded in Saudi Arabia due to covid-19 lock-down, has finally reached his homeland thanks to the timely intervention by Humanity Forum Jubail and Indian Social Forum.

The elderly man hailing from Kadaba area of Dakshina Kannada was admitted to a hospital in Madinah. However, his condition continued to worsen due to lack of proper treatment. The efforts by his family members to bring him back home had not yielded results.

Meanwhile, one of the relatives of the patient, Ansari Suratkal, who happens to be a DKSC activist, brought the issue to the notice of the Karnataka unit of the Indian Social Forum in Dammam. ISF contacted Humanity Forum president Zakariya Jokatte, who helped the patient to speak directly union minister D V Sadananda Gowda in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com.

Humanity Forum also persuaded the Indian Embassy to allow the stranded cardiac patient to fly back to India through Dammam-Bengaluru repatriation flight on May 20. 

However, it was not easy for the patient to travel from Madinah to Dammam International Airport due to lock-down and curfew. ISF not only obtained travel permission for him but also arranged vehicle. Jeddah and Riyadh units of ISF helped in obtaining permission letter in their respective places in spite of travel ban imposed by the police. Madinah unit of ISF arranged vehicle for transportation. Zakariya Jokatte bore the air ticket and other expenses of the patient.

In a humanitarian gesture to help fellow citizens in distress, the first in the series of chartered 
flights arranged by Thumbay Group, UAE and the Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) Trust, 
Mangalore to repatriate stranded Kannadigas in the UAE took off from Ras Al Khaimah 
International Airport in the wee hours of 21st July 2020. The flight was fully occupied, with 186 passengers, all of them desperate to fly back to India for various reasons.

The initiative was conceived and implemented under the leadership of Dr. Thumbay Moideen - Founder President of Thumbay Group & Founder Patron of BCF and Dr. B K Yusuf, the 
President of BCF. The flight was organized on a purely charitable basis, with all necessary 
steps and precautions in place to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers. Thumbay Group assigned its fleet of buses to transport the passengers free of charge from their residences in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman to the airport. The organizers also provided free meals and refreshments to the passengers, in addition to PPE kits and face-shields distributed free of 
charges.

The passengers on the first flight included many elderly individuals, people with serious 
illnesses like heart-related health issues and diabetes, pregnant ladies and little children as well as people who had lost their jobs and those with expired visas. Dr. B K Yusuf – BCF President, Dr. Kaup Mohammed - BCF General Secretary, other office bearers of BCF, as well as Thumbay Group’s representatives Mr. Farhad C – Director of the Hospitality Division of 
Thumbay Group and Engr. Farwaz P. C. – COO of the Construction Division were present at 
the airport to see off the first group of passengers.

Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This joint initiative of Thumbay 
Group and BCF is to support our fellow Kannadigas desperate to fly back home. We are happy that we have been able to reach out to many of them, to help them fly home to their families. We thank the Governments of the UAE and India, and the Indian Consulate, Dubai, for their support in making this happen. In the coming days, many more stranded Kannadigas would be repatriated under this joint initiative.”
Dr. B K Yusuf thanked Dr. Thumbay Moideen and the office-bearers and members of BCF for 
their efforts to make the initiative a success.

“We are proud that this initiative has brought relief to many Kannadigas and their families today. BCF is grateful to Thumbay Group for its support and partnership for all our humanitarian programs for the support of the needy.”

Dr. Kaup Mohammed said that it was a matter of pride that the much-awaited Thumbay-BCF 
repatriation flight had been carried out successfully. “Measures have been taken to ensure the safety of the flight and its passengers throughout the journey,” he said. He also thanked all the social organizations including Bhatkal Jamath, BCCI, BWF, KCF, DKSC, Kodagu Kannadigas, 
Kannadiga Help Line, Dubai Konkans and KSS, for their support. He specially thanked Mr. 
Syed Hassan Razeen, the owner of ARISTOCRAT Travels for his support in the ticketing, 
boarding and related processes. On behalf of Milano Optics Group and Maxcare, free gift 
hampers were distributed to selected passengers.

The passengers were received at Mangalore airport under the leadership of Mr. Mumtaz Ali - patron of BCF and other distinguished personalities of Mangalore including Mr. Moidin Bava - former MLA, Mr U. T. Ifthikhar, Mr. S. M. R Rashid - President of BCCI central committee and many others. The passengers were transferred to the hotels where they had registered for the mandatory quarantine.

The second flight under this joint initiative is scheduled to take-off from Ras Al Khaimah airport to Mangalore on 24th July 2020. A few more similar repatriation flights are to soon follow, in the coming weeks.
