Mangaluru, Oct 27: Accusing the Kana Nagarika Horata Samiti of trying to mislead people of his constituency by holding unnecessary protests, Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava said that he left no stone unturned to accomplish the Suratkal-Kana-MRPL road repair work at the earliest.

bava copyResponding to the allegations that he ignored the protesters and refused to pay heed to their agony, Mr Bava said that he could not stop his car at the protest site on Wednesday as he had to reach Mangaluru International Airport on time.

“After reaching Saudi Arabia I came to know through coastaldigest.com that the protesters had levelled several baseless allegations against me. Yes, I did not stop the car. Had they asked me to visit them and to accept memorandum, I would have definitely visited them before going to Airport,” he said, accusing the Samiti activists of resorting to personal attack against him.

Double standard

Mr Bava went on to claim that the leaders of Nagarika Horata Samiti, which is comprised of left-wing activists, in fact made all possible efforts to delay the road repair work in order to mobilize people to stage a protest.

“The Mangaluru City Corporation was about to start the repair work. However, the office bearers of the same Samiti did not allow them to commence the work and questioned how could they start work without formal approval of the tender,” he said adding that the real intention of the agitators is politicising the issue and building public opinion against local MLA. “They are trying to portray me as a joker,” he lamented.

He said that he had even taken the Deputy Commissioner to the spot and convinced him the seriousness of the issue. “When we exert pressure on the authorities to commence the work at the earliest, they exert pressure to delay the work. People should understand their double standard,” he said.

Mr Bava said that a couple of days ago, residents of Kana and surrounding areas under the banner of another organisation had staged a protest with the same cause, i.e. the speedy repair of Suratkal-MRPL-Kana road, and they had invited him too. “I visited them and they put forth their demand without any drama. They did not even insult me,” he said.

He also promised to complete the road repair work within 30 days even if the Samiti tried to create hurdles for the work.

Permanent solution

The Congress MLA said that he never sat idle thinking it was MRPL and other companies' responsibility to repair the road. “I am longing for a permanent solution to the problem of the 4.5 km stretch. I have personally met chief minister and held a meeting with state level authorities,” he said adding that modalities of Rs 50 crore project will be worked out soon.

Development works

Mr Bava also said that as an MLA he has concentrated more on developmental works and that his constituency witnessed more development in last three years compared to the term of his predecessors. “If anyone has any doubt on my claim they can clarify it through RTI,” he said.

The Himachal Pradesh police have confirmed the arrested a man for injuring a pregnant cow by feeding her wheat flour ball laced with firecrackers.

The cow’s jaw was blown off-- reprising the tragic story of a pregnant elephant that lost its life after eating a pineapple stuffed with a firecracker in Kerala.

While the incident took place on May 26 in Jhandutta area of Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district, it came to light only on Saturday, May 6, when the cow’s owner, Gurdayal Singh, uploaded a video of the injured animal on social media.

In the video, Gurdiyal Singh describes how the cow’s mouth had been injured after one Nandlal fed her explosives.

He confirmed that Nandlal works as a mechanic in Singh’s neighbourhood. Singh said that Nandlal has no remorse for his action. Nandlal has said that he is not scared of the repercussions and that he will continue to do whatever he deems fit. “Even the village sarpanch cannot harm me”, challenged Nandlal when confronted by Singh.

The cow has given birth to a healthy calf since but Singh said the animal is still not able to eat because of an injured jaw and is being administered Glucose.

The video went viral with people demanding strict action against the person who fed firecrackers to the animal.

The practice of studding dough balls with firecrackers isn’t uncommon in Himachal, and farmers resort to this to keep wild animals, especially boards, off their fields. In the Kerala incident too, the explosive-filled-fruit was meant for wild boars. In many parts of the country, including Himachal, the method is also used to hunt for bush meat -- an illegal practice.

Bilaspur superintendent of oolice (SP) Devakar Sharma confirmed the incident and said the cow was fed a highly explosive firecracker popularly called “aalu bomb”.

Aalu is Hindi for potato. He said a case under Section 286 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered and the role of the neighbours named by Singh is being investigated.

Someone needs to educate these disgusting Indian pigs. Religious? After what they do to women and animals? They are less than animals. A disgrace to their God and the human race. Sadly, officials are corrupt and those that aren't are powerless.

Mangaluru/Bengaluru, Jan 23: A day after two senior functionaries of the BJP — a deputy chief minister and a political secretary to the chief minister — made provocative speeches against a minority community, Nalin Kumar Kateel, state president of the saffron party, on Wednesday issued a gag order, banning functionaries from talking on issues without the party’s approval.

Deputy CM Govind Karjol and Honnalli legislator MP Renukacharya had passed comments castigating Muslims, in the process seriously denting the image of the party which is trying to avoid controversies in its efforts to allay fears on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. The comments come on the heels of Ballari City legislator Somashekara Reddy warning Muslims at a pro-CAA rally of repercussions if they do not fall in line.

Kateel said a gag order has been “clearly” communicated to all concerned at a recent meeting that he and chief minister BS Yediyurappa had chaired. “Our message to party functionaries is in line with what Prime Minister Narendra Modi has told his council of ministers and party MPs — to focus on their work and constituencies rather than comment on issues. Let them leave this task to official spokespersons of the party,” Kateel said.

However, it appears the message hasn’t gone through to Renukacharya, Yediyurappa’s political secretary. A day after courting controversy by saying anti-nationals were using mosques to store weapons, Renukacharya said he stood by his comments and launched a fresh tirade against madrasas, saying they were manipulating youth and encouraging terrorism.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Renukacharya said: “In our [temple-run] institutions, nothing anti-national is taught. We only teach values that are mandated for life. But at madrasas, youth are manipulated by teaching terrorism. Why do we need such schools? The majority of those accused of terrorism are Muslims.”

He immediately followed up this comment by saying he did not imply all Muslims were terrorists. The Honnalli MLA justified his comments saying he did not receive a single Muslim vote in the 2018 assembly elections. “They [Muslims] come to us seeking our help. They want the BJP for development, but when it comes to elections, they vote for Congress and JD(S),” Renukacharya said. He said no “special packages” will be distributed to Muslims in his constituency.

Cheap politics I urge every Indian to open up your eyes and mind. This politician whichever party they belong we have appointed them to benefit us. Instead of that they are benefitting from us and are using us for their gains.
