Mangaluru’s ‘Shanthi Prakashana’ shines at Sharjah Book Fair

Sharja: In what could be termed as a proud moment for Kannadigas in United Arab Emirates, Karnataka’s publication house ‘Shanthi Prakashana’ is taking part in 35th Sharjah International Book Fair from November 2 to 12.

Every year international book fair will be held in Sharjah in the month of November. Sheikh Sultan III bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, the ruler of Sharjah is a motivation force behind this book fair. Started in 1982, today it’s the fourth largest book fair in the world.

Shanthi Prakashana publishes books on different areas of human society including religion and culture. Till date it has brought out more than 270 titles. It also has three mobile literature vans roaming all over Karnataka to spread out human values and establish atmosphere of brotherhood.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Shanthi book stall, Sarvotthama Shetty, president of Abu Dhabi Kannada Sangha, said that Shanthi Prakashana is a value based publication house. “It should grow and spread the message of peace and humanity,” he added.

On the same occasion, Dr Muhammad Abdul Khair, CEO of Propharma group of companies, released Kannada translation of the volume 6 of ‘Thafheem-ul-Quran’.

Mallikarjuna Gowda, former president of Dubai Kannada Sangha, launched ‘Shanthi Prakashana Mobile App’. Uma Vidyadar, president of Dubai Kannada Sangha released newly published book of Hadeeth ‘Prakasha Bindugalu’.

Muhammad Kunhi, Manager of Shanthi Prakashana said, “There are no fables in Shanthi’s books. You can find only truth and message of peace and humanity.”

He said that mutual understanding between religions will eradicate disbeliefs and promotes space for human values. “This is the goal of Shanthi Prakashana,” he said.

National President of Islamic Cultural Center UAE, Mr. Arief Shareef, ICC Sharja President Abdul Qadeer, SQR Ilyas, Akthar Hussain Bhatkal, Noor Ashfak Karkala, Convener of Shanthi book stall Abdul Salam Deralakatte, V.K Rashid, Hafeez Kudroli, Ashraf Hasan Ullal, Mariyam Shaheera, Ashraf Madi were present.

Please be aware that Shanti Prakashana still publishing books written by Maududi, the one who led many innocent Muslim youths to terrorism. I request sharjah authority to ban books written by Maududi and sayed qutub.

Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Chaiman Dr Sam Pitroda held video conference with senior IOC office bearers across Middle Eastern countries on 14th April 2020 to review the impact of COVID-19 pandemic among Indians residing in the region. Almost all speakers appreciated the efforts initiated and  implemented by  respective governments to contain spread of the deadly virus as well as measures taken towards welfare of the people affected by the lockdown. 

IOC Presidents, Mohammed Mansour - Bahrain, Abdullah Manjeri - Saudi Arabia, Dr J Ratan kunar - Oman and Girish kumar - Qatar, highlighted the quality treatment of patients and finacial aid provided by governments and other authorities. Bahrain IOC president Mansour , also  apprised about the 'Food for Needy' drive in Association with KHK Heroes foundation, initiated by HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and quality treatments as well as financial aid to local and expat residents.

Anura Mathai, IOC  Global Event Coordinator, spoke about certain problems of Indians in the UAE. IOC Middle East Convener, Mansoor Palloor, emphasised and requested IOC Chairman to urge Indian government to arrange immediate repatriation of indians stranded in Gulf countries. AICC Secretary, Himanshu Vyas, IOC Secretary Dr Arathi Krishna, Dr Arshi Malik (Abha), Mohiuddin Sirajudeen (Jeddah), Advocate Joseph Palathara (Dammam) Prasad Kodru, Jayati Maitra Ziyad Ahmed (Qatar) and Khursheed Alam (Gen Secretary- Bahrain) also apprised the participants about various issues relevant to the pandemic and suggested further initiatives to be undertaken. 

Dr Sam Pitroda briefed about sustained and consolidated efforts by all IOC members  during this unprecedented situation facing the world and assured that he would convey IOC  concerns to the government and try his best to ensure all possible help is made available to all needy Indians.
