Violent passengertied to seat' on India bound Dubai flight

January 6, 2017

New Delhi, Jan 6: A 'violent' passenger on a New Delhi bound flight from Dubai was restrained by cabin crew earlier this week.

violentOn Tuesday, Indigo flight 6E 024 - that had taken off from Dubai airport - witnessed an unruly passenger after he refused to follow the in flight security rules, sources told Indiatoday.in

He even allegedly threatened the crew, the sources added.

As things got out of hand, the chief pilot instructed the passenger to be overpowered. In an unprecedented situation he was tied down to his seat.

Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi international airport in New Delhi, CISF police force detained the man who was later handed over to Delhi Police that is investigating the matter.

According to Delhi Police sources, the passenger underwent an alcohol test to ascertain whether he has been under influence of alcohol or not. The report is awaited.

Such incidents of unruly passengers seem to have grown in recent years, both in India and around the world.

In December last year, a Jet Airways Mumbai-Bhopal flight was delayed after a group of passengers, who were part of a marriage party virtually hijacked the flight. The flight was reportedly over-booked due to a technical glitch, the website reported.

In 2016, a Compass Airlines flight headed to Los Angeles had to make an emergency landing in Tucson after a passenger made a threat to the flight crew. The man reportedly was unruly on the flight and would not sit down.

In another 2015 incident, a passenger who created a ruckus for almost six hours onboard an Emirates flight from Dubai to Melbourne had to be restrained, the airline said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement the unruly passenger was also reportedly assaulted a passenger.

Last year in December, Korean Air said it would let its crew use stun guns more aggressively and put more male staff aboard flights to clamp down on violent passengers, after an incident involving an unruly passenger.

Mangaluru, Apr 6: Agricultural produce vendors have decided to hold an indefinite strike from Monday here in city's Central Market.

This move comes in response to district administration’s order asking them to shift to the APMC yard at Baikampady and not heeding to their appeal to allow them to operate from the Market and other areas in the city.

The district administration has decided to shift the vendors in order to prevent crowding in the market and maintain social distancing norms.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: After Honnalli legislator MP Renukacharya, Ballari City MLA Somashekara Reddy and deputy chief minister Govind Karjol, it appeared the turn of revenue minister R Ashoka to show the BJP in poor light with controversial and provocative comments against a minority community. This, despite a gag order issued by state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel.

Responding to questions on the Mangaluru International Airport bomb scare incident and how the main accused would have been treated had he been a Muslim, Ashoka on Thursday said "all anti-nationals must be shot dead". Meanwhile, Renukacharya, also a political secretary to chief minister BS Yediyurappa, continued his tirade against Muslims, insisting the government will not extend any "special package" to the community.

Soon after garlanding the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on the birth anniversary of the freedom fighter, at Vidhana Soudha on Thursday, Ashoka said: "All those who are singing the tune of Pakistan and indulging in anti-national activities, be they Hindu, Christian or Muslim, must be shot dead."

Asked to respond to former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s accusation that the entire Mangaluru bomb incident was stage-managed by the BJP government to divert attention, Ashoka said the JD(S) functionary "must measure his words" and not speak "like a film director who can project the police as villainous all the time".

"Kumaraswamy is a former CM. When in power, police were his closest friends, but now that he is not in government, the same police are villains," Ashoka said.

The minister reiterated the government’s stand — first floated by home minister Basavaraj Bommai —

that Aditya Rao, the main accused in the Mangaluru bomb incident, is "mentally unstable" and needs to be medically examined.

Renukacharya, meanwhile, justified comments made on Wednesday that the government will not offer Muslims "a special package".

"When they [Muslims] need development funds, they come to us and seek special packages. Once they get funds, they then vote for Congress or JD(S) in elections," Renukacharya said on Thursday. "We do not need people with such double standards. I will apply pressure on all ministers in the cabinet and even the chief minister to ensure they do not allocate any special package for the community."

Belagavi, Jan 17: Maharashtra Minister of State for Public Health, Medical Education, FDA and Textiles Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar who had come here to participate in the martyrs day programme of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) was detained by the police and escorted back till the state borders on Friday.

MES had organised its annual martyrs day programme at Hutatma Circle here. Its leaders had earlier been asked by the District Administration and City Police to ensure that none of the political leaders from Maharashtra participate and create law and order problems by their anti-state statements.

Patil had managed to sneak into the city through a route which was not manned by the police. He came in an auto-rickshaw to the programme venue.

Police personnel present for security took him into their custody and later escorted him till the state’s borders with Maharashtra at Kognoli on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway.

MES leaders alleged that the police personnel violated protocol while taking the incumbent minister into their custody and they also roughed him up.

All vehicles entering the city from different routes and particularly from Maharashtra were screened to confirm that political leaders from the neighbouring state do not participate in the martyrs day programme and create problems by their statements that also affect law and order along with linguistic harmony.

It was not known if Patil had landed in the city on Thursday and managed to reach the programme venue without getting noticed by using an auto-rickshaw.
