Auto drivers, owners accuse Modi govt of making their lives difficult

Bhatkal, Jan 24: The Auto-rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association staged a protest here accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-union government is of imposing unnecessary and hefty feel and exploiting the poor auto-rickshaw drivers. The representatives of the association submitted a memorandum to the government through the Assistant Commissioner.auto-m

The protestors condemned the anti-people policy of the union government to hike the insurance policy price amidst continuous hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel and demanded for the immediate withdrawal of the same.

“The insurance policy premium has been raised about 200% along with the hikes of petrol and diesel prices. Permission renewal fees and permit fees also have been raised and this policy of the government has affected badly the poor auto drivers and owners. Auto-rickshaws are a major means of transportation in Bhatkal. We are met with injustice when we were expecting some kind of benefits from the government. We request the government to withdraw the hike of fees immediately,” reads the memorandum.

Manjunath, Bhatkal AC received the memorandum. Venkatesh Naik, president of Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners association, Shridhar Naik and others lead the agitation.

cmon guys ... its not the reason :) bhatkal which is a terror hub and which is very much infamous for its anti india activities ... now their main economy is hit due to demonetization .. so business is down ... before we used to hear 100's of guys from this town indulging in anti social( smuggling , killings , jihad, drugs , hawala) and terror activities ... now papa ... gara badida haage aagide ... hahaha... auto walas must protest against KL registration autos who dont pay tax and run autos here .. not for insurance ... insurance is for safety ... Bengaluru, Mar 10: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the Kempegowda International Airport and checked all measures taken by authorities and doctors to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Till date, 45 people have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus infection across India.

A resident of Bengaluru was tested positive for coronavirus on Monday.

Bengaluru, May 25: With the reporting of 93 more fresh cases of COVID-19, the total number of pandemic cases were surged to 2182 in Karnataka on Monday.

According to official sources, highest number of new cases of COVID-19 pandemic, were reported from Udupi (32), Kalaburagi (16), Yadagiri (15), Bengaluru Urban (08), Dakshina Kannada (04) in the last 24-hours in the state.

The fresh cases were also reported form Mandya, Belagavi, Ramanagara, Vijayapura, Kolara, Ballari and Dharwada district.

Mangaluru, June 27: The district health authorities are likely to conduct mass random testing for Covid-19 in Ullal town on the outskirts of the city in the wake of detection of several new coronavirus positive cases there in past couple few days.  

An elderly woman from Azad Nagar in Ullal was died of coronavirus earlier this week. Many others including a couple of policemen also tested positive for the deadly virus in vicinity.

Following this, local elected representatives including MLA U T Khader and religious leaders of Ullal held a meeting regarding taking steps to control the spread of the virus. In the meeting Mr Khader suggested the authorities to conduct random testing in Ullal town. 

Apart from Azad Nagar, covid-19 cases have surfaced in Kodi, Bangera Lane and in the surroundings of police station and Sahara Hospital triggering panic among people. Hence, the authorities are like to conduct random testing of auto rickshaw drivers, fishermen, street vendors among others. 

Meanwhile, several mosques in Ullal have reportedly decided to suspend congregational prayers temporarily.
