Auto drivers, owners accuse Modi govt of making their lives difficult

Bhatkal, Jan 24: The Auto-rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association staged a protest here accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-union government is of imposing unnecessary and hefty feel and exploiting the poor auto-rickshaw drivers. The representatives of the association submitted a memorandum to the government through the Assistant Commissioner.auto-m

The protestors condemned the anti-people policy of the union government to hike the insurance policy price amidst continuous hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel and demanded for the immediate withdrawal of the same.

“The insurance policy premium has been raised about 200% along with the hikes of petrol and diesel prices. Permission renewal fees and permit fees also have been raised and this policy of the government has affected badly the poor auto drivers and owners. Auto-rickshaws are a major means of transportation in Bhatkal. We are met with injustice when we were expecting some kind of benefits from the government. We request the government to withdraw the hike of fees immediately,” reads the memorandum.

Manjunath, Bhatkal AC received the memorandum. Venkatesh Naik, president of Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners association, Shridhar Naik and others lead the agitation.

cmon guys ... its not the reason :) bhatkal which is a terror hub and which is very much infamous for its anti india activities ... now their main economy is hit due to demonetization .. so business is down ... before we used to hear 100's of guys from this town indulging in anti social( smuggling , killings , jihad, drugs , hawala) and terror activities ... now papa ... gara badida haage aagide ... hahaha... auto walas must protest against KL registration autos who dont pay tax and run autos here .. not for insurance ... insurance is for safety ... Feb 3: Shine Shetty, who was last seen essaying the character of 'Chandu' in the popular daily soap 'Lakshmi Baramma', made a grand comeback to the small screen with Bigg Boss Kannada season 7 as one of the contestants. Mangaluru, Mar 23: In its efforts to contain the outbreak of COVID-19, the district administration has ordered that all shops and establishments selling essential commodities to remain open only between 0600 hrs and 1200 hrs from Tuesday till March 31.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, in a press release here, announced that autorickshaws and taxis should not ferry passengers and should be utilised only during emergencies and for transportation of essential commodities among others.

Ms Sindhu has also ordered shutting down industries. Only those industries involved in the production of essential commodities, medicines, medical instruments, medicine, fuel, farm produce among others had been exempted, Please log in to get detailed story.

Bengaluru, Jun 5: With the easing of COVID-19 lockdown norms under unlock 1.0, the Karnataka government on Thursday permitted state transport buses to operate even during the night curfew hours 9 pm to5 am.

Autos, taxis and cabs have also been given permission to operate during these hours for picking commuting passengers from pickup points or bus stands.

Chief Secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar in an order said, state transport corporations (BMTC, KSRTC, NEKRTC and NWKRTC) buses have been allowed to operate during night curfew hours from 9 pm to 5 am.

On the basis of their bus tickets, passengers would be allowed to commute to bus stand or from there to home, in accordance with the COVID-19 control measures, SOPs and other guidelines, it said.

Further, during the curfew hours autos, taxis and cabs have been given permission to pick commuters from pickup points or bus stands, it added.

Earlier, the government had revised the night curfew time from the previous 7 pm-7 am to 9 pm-5 am, and said the movement of individuals shall remain strictly prohibited between 9 pm and 5 am throughout the state, except for essential activities.

The government has also said that jungle lodges and resorts, also private organisations providing similar facilities, along with activities they provide like safari, trekking among others would be permitted from June 8, in compliance with the guidelines and SOP issued and following the social distancing norms.
