Malpe fishing boat tragedy: two missing fishermen found alive; boat recovered

Malpe, August 14: Among the four fishermen who went missing in the Arabian Sea near Malpe, after a fishing boat capsized on last Friday, Ramachandra (60) and Damodar (40) were found at their homes in Manki, Honnavar.

The duo are said to have swam to the shore after the mishap at sea, and had returned to their homes without informing anyone.

However, Mahadeva (28) and Ramesh Ganapathi Harikanth (19) are still missing. Malpe Police, Coast Guards and local fisherman have been continuing the search operation.

The boat had six fishermen on board during the accident, among whom, Panduranga Kunder and Manjunath had reached shore safely on Friday.

Boat found

The boat was dragged to the shore after it was was found in a half-sunk state near Kaipunjalu beach. The boat is fully damaged and the loss is estimated to be Rs 35 lakhs. It is owned by Pushpa Shashidar.

Mangaluru, Mar 16: As a precaution against the spread of Covid-19, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) on Monday decided to cut down its premium, non-AC sleeper, Rajahamsa and express bus services from Mangaluru to Bengaluru and Kasaragod following poor patronage.

The cut down in services is as per the direction of KSRTC's Central office that wants bus services to be operated on priority.

KSRTC Mangaluru Divisional Controller S N Arun said that the corporation has decided to cut down 40 trips to Bengaluru. Concerning Kasaragod, it has reduced the number of trips from 40 to 35. "These include a reduction in services to Mysuru and Dharmasthala also," he added.

Mangaluru, Jan 17: An auto-mobile shop at Deralakatte here caught fire on Friday incurring huge loss on the shopkeeper.

According to police, the incident happened in the morning when the shop owner opened the shop.

Locals suspect that miscreants might have set the shop on fire and had escaped from the scene at night.

Ballari, Jan 6: Two members of a family were killed in a cylinder explosion at their home in Sanjeevarayana Kote, here on Monday morning, police said.

The deceased were identified as Parvathi and her daughter Huliyamma.

The incident took place when the two were in the kitchen. Fire tenders were rushed to the rescue.
